Funny how nobody worries about transparency when the market is going good for us.

Exactly, I remember a few years ago drivers where bragging about how bad they were screwing the brokers.
@BuckeyeFan-ty4vr3 ай бұрын
I never worried what brokers made on the load . Just what I was making . If they are not willing to pay what I want I just say thanks and move on.

Brokers aren’t essential, they have able to worm their way into the operation. They don’t do the labor, drivers do and they should get most of the profits
@truckingresources42403 ай бұрын
I don't necessarily agree with you about the non-essential but I do agree with you that the drivers should get most of the profits. However, to require Them to show how much they make is not what capitalism is about. The problem is actually the truck drivers that take the loads at those low rates.
@peterdipiazza79453 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right Rob... The brokers should not be required to be "transparent" any more than the owner ops are. If a guy is getting 9 mph, should the broker demand "transparency " and a discount cuz of the guy's lower overhead? Of course not! That's ridiculous!
@truckingresources42403 ай бұрын
Exactly right. I am not in support of brokers taking too much but I am in support of the free trade in America and that requires the government to stay out of it!!
@billliddick65173 ай бұрын
I've been at this a long time and when rates are low this always comes back around. Know your worth don't run cheap. I don't care what a broker tells me I'm in the position where if i don't like what's being offered ill just deadhead out of the area. You should never take a load to an area without knowing what the rates are getting out. As for Landstar my problem has been them coming in and cutting rates but like you said that's free market capitalism.

Robert -- I had to laugh when you jokingly said you were wrong once. It reminded me of one of my favorite sayings along that line that goes "I was wrong once. I thought I had made my first mistake and then I found out that I hadn't.". LOL. But all jokes aside, I think you are correct in your understanding of the subject, although I am far from an expert. The bottom line though is that trucking is a tough business and to be successful requires a sharp business mind and lots of hard work and the necessary capital to invest to make it work. Having the right personality helps too because you have to be able to get along with people when you are in any business. Anyway, that's my $.02. Be safe out there, Robert!

I'm going to repeat something I heard and if you can rap your head around it you'll be better off. "Don't worry about what the broker making worry about what you're making " if you can make money haul.

Whats a problem with showing transaction?? Does not matter good time or bad times? There is something fishy.
@stevenielson4973 ай бұрын
I am so happy to hear that someone agrees the same way i do. I got so tired of people telling me that i was being ripped off when i was leased to a company for 30 years. I would always tell them of they dont like it then quit but they never did cause when all was said and done we made money damn good money.
@truckingresources42403 ай бұрын
Exactly, I have run under my own authority, and I have leased as I am not. There are pros and cons to both of them and to each their own. As of right now I could see finishing out the next 20 years of my career where I am, but things change all of the time. Thanks for all of the years you put into this great industry!!

The real problem is there are too many carriers out there who don't understand simple math, and the brokers are taking advantage of it. So when I ask for a fair rate, I get a No. Don't blame them. Sorry, I have to disagree, broker transparency is a must to keep greed in check.
@truckingresources42402 ай бұрын
I don't disagree with your argument but my point is that transparency is anti-capitalist. The greed that you speak of goes both ways. In 2020 the us truck drivers where the greediest people out there. Brokers were losing money to spot market loads that they were locked into a rate on. The drivers weren't saying "Let me lower my rate so you can pay your rent." The free market isn't always fair but it has to stay the way it is. Broker transparency is a form of socialism.
