The problem with Carnivore is that you'll reach your desired weight, be fit as heck, feel the best you have in your life, lose any symptoms that you had if you had any, and get hit on by attractive members of both sexes. You become an unbearably positive individual because you don't actually have anything to complain about. You end up raising healthy, happy, successful kids, have a fulfilling relationship with yourself and others, you have time to post about it on social media, and you hopefully make a small positive contribution to the world. :)

Your comment struck a chord with me. I dream of not being hungry all the time to be lean. My whole life being lean has meant calorie restriction followed by binge eating all the foods I denied myself. I tried carnivore for a few weeks but didn't have any less hunger. Is something wrong with me?

@@rachelbrondel5858 It can take 3 weeks and longer to become fat adapted, going from a glucose metabolism to a fat metabolism for energy. I was a vegetarian/vegan for most of my life. Struggled with many of the same health issues all of the other ex-vegetarians/vegans complain about. 1 year ago I developed gut disbiosis (for the second time) and while being treated with antibiotics and antifungals I somehow found my way to Dr. Saldino, Dr. Baker and Dr. Berry. I started carnivore and while it healed my gut issues, here is what I struggled with: constant cramps in my legs and feet no matter how much salt I added to food or how many electrolytes I drank, insomnia, hair loss and finally after 1 year I developed significant arrhythmias. I also found that strict carnivore made me a bit irritable. I was a BBB&E girl. I would watch all of the carnivore doctors' You Tube videos, I bought their books and read all of the success stories but still couldn't achieve the same results. I finally added in some non starchy vegetables and low sugar fruit and viola! I feel much better and happier. No more leg cramps, no more arrhythmias and sleeping much better. I'm only writing this in case there are others like me that don't thrive on a 100 % carnivore diet and wonder why. I happen to love veggies, nothing like roasted cauliflower. Yum. I do find I feel my best when my carbs are very low and a stay away from grains, legumes and most dairy.

So I decided to add in some salads and non-starchy veggies and that did the trick. I have no idea if it's the minerals in the veggies or the small amount of carbs or both, but I feel balanced now. One other thing I also noticed, is that on 100% carnivore I tended to get stomach aches but they went away as well when I added in the veggies.

They were “pesco-vegetarians,” or pescatarians, people who ate a plant-based diet including a small portion of fish, up to once daily. Also, the longest living human on Earth was Jeanne Louise Calment, she ate two pounds of chocolate per week! Just eat in moderation and variety, exercise, get sunshine and stay positive. Sir i am a hyper carnivore veterinarian due to health issues from a decade of being a low fat vegetarian... it has been studied and lectured in our nutrition class that it is beneficial for carnivores to eat the whole herbivore prey including the partially digested fruits or grass in the intestines as well as all the gut enzymes and gut bacteria of the animal. For pack predators it has been observed that the alphas get access to the organs and guts and of course the fatty meat while those lower in the food chain get the scraps. For some predators like birds and reptiles they even eat their prey whole, guts, bones, fur or feathers including whatever plant, insect or animal material that prey ate. For us humans we most likely used to be omnivores like the great apes who partially or rather greatly lost the ability to digest the harder to process fibrous plant parts or evolved to eating more meat and as we learned to cook and thru the ice age where plants would be hard to come by. I still believe we are evolved specialist carnivores who can eat some plant parts specially if processed properly and we can even survive eating a totally plant based diet... but if someone is metabolically compromised for whatever reason ... a pure carnivore , therapeutic keto, or a low carb diet would be a safer option than a plant based diet unless you have a condition or disease where meat causes you health problems like that lone star tick disease??? As dr berry said "meat for sustenance... plants for survival and medicine in the right dose"

Since we are talking about people curing things with carnivore diet- here is my story! So everyone knows I am 46, turn 47 soon- but look like I am in my early 30’s. I am now 122lbs and 5’7”. I have done a zero carb carnivore diet for 8 months now. Before I was saved by the carnivore diet I was 165lbs (weight would continue to creep up since I was 40 years old.) And I had so many other issues that are now cured. One was i had fibrocystic issues before carnivore. It built up over a six year period of western / SAD diet. Doctors said it was normal, nothing we can do. “Part of aging and now normal.” Nope! Then I tried the Mediterranean scam grain diet for 6 months- made things worse and even put me into peri menopause and many other issues like cysts that got to be quarter size round, so painful! Fibrocystic masses too were big! I was fed up and decided to go dig and dig to see if anything would reverse this! Found Dr. Baker, Dr. Berry, and Dr. Chaffee with carnivore diet! Then found out cruciferous veggies can ruin your thyroid and prevent natural absorption of iodine found in foods! I had eaten lean skinless chicken breast (a half of one maybe once a day), rices, and broccoli for 6 years- age 40-46 and daily! I want ladies to know they need to avoid cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, asparagus, and cauliflower to prevent fibrocystic breasts- but plants in general cause it! Your body needs iodine for your lady organs and all other organs, but especially your thyroid! They really mess up the thyroid which messes up your hormones and causes all other issues! One big domino affect! I ask people to go watch Dr. Chaffee with Dr. Sally Norton on plant toxins! Fibrocystic breast issues are now what doctors have settled as “normal!” I truly feel it is considered an auto immune issue / plant toxic illness of inflammation that can be reversed with carnivore! If you look the rates of fibrocystic illnesses is drastically increasing- including breast cancer- and it’s posted on line that nobody knows what causes those! They tell people not to eat saturated fats! I eat fatty meats of beef and eggs- and 8 months on carnivore no more cysts and i have only one smaller fibrocystic mass left that is super small- continues to shrink- not the large mass it once was- shrinking drastically on carnivore diet! Carnivore diet cured so much for me! * No more perimenopause- completely reversed! *Period cycles all timed perfect with 4 week intervals.And no PMS symptoms, but only the actual menstrual cycle itself! *No more night sweats *No more waking every 2 hours at night! *It used to take me 20 minutes or longer to fall asleep at night when I would first go to bed at night- before carnivore. Now it takes like a minute or less. Haven’t noticed since I am out fast! *No more life long eczema *No more cold hands *No more cold body temp in general! Used to feel like a reptile - only warm in texas sun. *No more IBS symptoms (gas, bloating, stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea) *No more feeling low energy by 12pm and zombie by 4pm *No more purple looking hands in winter *No more brain fog *No more arthritis that I felt in hands, knees, and hips- or elbows *Lost 45+ pounds from former baby weight and peri menopause weight. *Always had 20/20 vision with slight stigmatism- but in March doctor said my stigmatism is reversing! *Don’t sunburn as easily anymore and tan well. *Wrinkles around eyes seem to be much less. I am 46 and look like I am in early 30’s. *Gums look super healthy. Dentist seems irritated as my teeth are not dirty when cleaning every six months. Think they know they won’t make money off me. *No more sore chest from monthly periods- no swelling feeling of fullness or discomfort that prevented me from sleeping on my stomach. Now I sleep every night on my stomach! *Fibrocystic Breast issues reversing! Almost all gone after 6 years of buildup! *no cravings unless they are for meat *no more angina symptoms before a period- which started about 3 years ago. *No more feeling weak like almost passing out and dizzy around ovulation and periods * no more fingers swelling- that started a few years ago- rings kept being tight- is pattern I noticed. One ring I had resized larger and it’s super loose now. Will have to resize smaller. *feel stronger- now lifting barbells not just hands weights. Dr. Baker said since I am 46, and 5’7” at 122lbs- need more resistance training to add more muscle weight. . So bought a 47lb barbell off Amazon and have 40 extra pounds added to it. Will continue to progress with that. * i had started growing grey hairs in one of my eyebrows, few hairs at a time, but no grey in my blonde hair yet - but assumed it was coming before Carnivore. Now on carnivore I have had no new grey hairs growing in eye brows and still no grey hair in my natural blonde hair. And in the sun it gets super light highlights. * no more body odor! * I used to get a little anxiety with large crowds- like if attending special events- but since on carnivore I don’t get it that much. *I was a bit OCD before carnivore, but so much more relaxed so barely like that. * I was a relaxed person before, but somehow am even more relaxed and never stress about things. *Since I was a young child my sense of smell has been terrible. But 8 months on carnivore my sense of smell has gone crazy! I smell things even far away! Amazing! If I think of anything else will add. ☺️👍🏻 I know when people go on carnivore they are trying to heal something, but if they aren’t like me and notice small things- they may not notice they are healing way more than they realized- things plant foods were causing! And they need to remember, processed foods are made from plants- but so are whole foods (raw or cooked!) they are all toxic! The carnivore diet cures! ☺️👌🏻 The body is a network made of multiple gears- and if one gets messed up it causes a whole domino affect of problems like I had! The carnivore lifestyle is not a fad, it’s the ancestral human way of eating! Go Carnivore for a few months and see how you feel! ☺️👍🏻

"Lots of people have abandoned keto in favor of the carnivore diet." Since meat essentially has zero (okay, near-zero) carbohydrates, doesn't a carnivore diet count as a Ketogenic diet? I went into it from a lifetime of fitness coaching (now 73 ) " If you eat as a carnivore, live like a carnovore" was my advice. I was an ovo lacto vegetarian, with no issues. A reason, again philosophically was " animals can be force fed and " chemicalised " whereas a carrot will only grow if it gets what a carrot needs " I tried carnivore out of curiosity about Feb this year, not to overcome any aliments (I had none..unlike Jordan Peterson and many others ), with no change to my exercise activities. Im 6'5" , and was 118kgs, and have been 110 kgs after two months . One interesting factor. I used to run about 8kls at a steady pace and my resting heart rate was as low as 32 bpm. Since carnivore, I run out of wind after about 500mts, and my r.h.r is now about 60. (I have been doing Wim Hof breathing for about 5 yrs every day). That seems to tie into my original philosophy, because carnivores " sprint " (anaerobic ) not run for long distance (aerobic). Also I understand that oxidative stress is linked to aerobic activity..the prime cause of cellular damage. This is a difficult subject because it covers so many areas of specialisation, not least of which (and the least understood ) being the placebo effect. Perhaps the axiom of all philosophies is still " Know Thyself ".
@graveseeker Жыл бұрын
Is it possible to 'know thyself' relative to 40+ years from now? We're all playing the odds. With all of the chemicals sprayed on vegetables and DNA modifications being done, is a carrot really a carrot? Yes, I'm aware that similar things are happening to our livestock (and the food they eat). Our system needs a total overhaul...I think that species survival depends on it. Your experiences are interesting. I hope that further research is done on it. So you lost weight, which might explain your loss of performance, did you eat enough protein? What is your opinion of carnivore overall? Are you still on it?

@@graveseeker Hi Paul. The " self " is timeless. Interesting how such comments as " age is just a number " and books like The Power Of Now have emerged recently. This illustrates how intuition works (in - tuition !)..so many clues in our language. My favorites being image-in-nation , how our mind is programned externally, followed by I- Magi - Nation when you have seen the illusion of time and external programming. Of course the body is part of the ebb and flow of life aka time...I " have " a body..more common phrases where the deeper understanding us yet to be grasped. Im sticking to 95% carnivore. My gym workouts are just as good. My ref to distance running is related to my idea that we are not designed for such activity. " Eat like a carnivore...live like a carnivore ", on this experience, means losing the unnecessary function...which actually stimulates the destructive free radical oxidation process. Often examples of progress means letting go of previous activities. Im sticking to it..especially after learning about the metabolic cause of cancer...A fantastic example of how " some " professionals are waking up, like this wonderful oncologist Sanjay Juneja talking to Dr Seyfried. Confirmation vs In-formation...back to my imagination ref. Cheers

@@graveseeker Forgot to mention...The food chain is connected by links. Example being, ruminant animals convert grass into the most nutritious human food and have multiple stomachs as part of the transition process. Grass converting water and sunlight feeding cattle feeding us, so it makes sense when we discover all the problems when we cut out this particular link. It is so specific that the leaves which feed a panda will kill a koala and vice versa.

I'm a 40 year old man that started the carnivore diet about a week ago. Before carnivore, I was about 220 lbs, not active partially because of inflammation in one of my knees and a lack of energy, ate cereal and milk for breakfast, frozen burritos for lunch, and usually a ton of pasta and canned junk for dinner (I don't like to cook). Between meals, I snacked a lot. Tried to get healthier snacks but still leaned toward chocolate covered almonds and raspberry/blueberry fignewton style bars. I also ordered food online a lot. After switching to carnivore, I've eaten a lot less. One or two heavy meat/fat meals of usually 3/4 to 1 lbs of ground beef, 2 to 4 fried eggs, and tbs or two of butter thrown in while cooking. I'll season it with burger seasoning, iodized salt, and some pepper. Eat until full. No counting calories or portioning. If I'm full before the plate is empty, put it in the fridge and eat the rest later. If I'm still hungry, I'll fry up a few more eggs. Going to be eating some liver at least once a week for the vitamins. Like I said, it's been about a week eating like that and I feel great. I no longer feel weighed down after eating like I did with carbs. My energy is up as well as my mental health. I've felt good enough to get back into working out with weights and have started walking 2 miles every other day. The cravings for sugary snacks is gone. I sleep better, move better, feel better. Obviously, without blood work and a check up from a doctor I don't know if any of these changes are just plasebo or actual health changes. I don't own a scale so I'm not sure if I've lost weight. The last time I got my weight checked was at the doctor's office and that was about 8 months ago. So far, this isn't a diet in the sense that most people use the word. This is a lifestyle change that I plan to stick with from now on.

Often, in conversations, people admit that their main vegetable was French fries and ketchup. I know for myself, not only did I not eat vegetables, I also did not eat fruits. I encourage everyone who is eating keto or carnivore, do your blood work and help to add data to the conversation. There are two ways to look at this issue- the microscopic correlation vs the macroscopic causation points of view, and the short term vs long term overall health effects. Dr. Westman mentioned that there is no long term studies of the health effects of the carnivore diet, however there are many long term studies of the long term positive effects of the plant based whole food diet, outlined most definitively in the book 'The China Study'.

I love how open minded and respectful Dr Westman is. I really think that the carnivore diet is the way humans should be eating. Prof Kay, Dr Berry, Dr Baker, Dr Chaffee are some of the best sources to gain knowledge about the carnivore diet. If you look at their followers/members and their experience with this diet, the positive results are overwhelming.
@MysterySemicolon Жыл бұрын
Like Dr. Westman says, if you go carnivore you eat all the parts to get the nutrients. The liver in a cow has a lot of the necessary nutrients and vitamins, but people can't subsist without it. There's a freeze-dried organ supplement you can get, but I'm not sure if it keeps the delivery of these nutrients the way eating the actual organs would. I have been doing about 90% carnivore with the odd sugar snack like berries every few days and I have absolutely turned a corner with my health. Blood pressure. Kidney functions. Energy levels. All are much higher on this. But you need to eat really fatty meat and the organs.
@graveseeker Жыл бұрын
Dessicated organs provide the needed nutrients but are expensive. If you can't cook and eat the organs, or even eat them raw as some people do, the easiest and cheapest way to accomplish that is to have the organs ground into your hamburger meat and add some (tolerable) spices if necessary.

I enjoyed your take. I have seen the study that pulled carnivore experiences from social media groups and interviewed them. I would disagree that it's people who do well that go to these groups. I'm sure that is true is some cases, but I follow some of the groups in that study, and I can tell you that I joined to ask questions, to lurk, and have questions answered, because I thought I wasn't doing as well as others. I see a lot of people come to these groups for support because they aren't actually doing well at first or they don't understand the process so, in turn, come seeking help and answers from others that have been doing it longer. Otherwise, I agree and appreciate your honest opinion.

Something I’ve noticed though is before I started carnivore I had OCD for brushing my teeth - I had to brush them around 8-10 times a day for no reason other than obsession if that makes sense? Before and after every meal, before and after every hot drink, and random times in between. It’s been that way for _years_ as long as I can remember. It’s only been 2 weeks so far that I’ve been on carnivore and I notice randomly it’s been hours since I last brushed my teeth :o like it’s 8pm now and don’t think I brushed them since this morning?? I only brush them in the morning and evening to keep them clean now but it doesn’t even cross my mind randomly during the day. That’s been happening for like 6 days now. I have said this before- but I truly feel that colon cancer is NOT silent at all! Our bodies are warning us up to that point in stages! Stage 1: IBS symptoms- (Cramping, gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, extended bellies!) Stage 2 if you ignore stage one: Diverticulitis, diverticulosis, crones, celiac, ulcers, polyps, leaky gut, and so on. Stage 3: colon cancer! We need to be listening to our bodies! Doctors say it’s normal to have IBS- but NO it is not! It’s not normal at all- it is a warning that if we ignore our guts will get damaged over time! There is no silence with colon cancer- your body has done so much to warn you but you just didn’t listen! Remove plants from your diet and go the human ancestral way of eating- the carnivore lifestyle! It is not a fad- it’s is the human way of eating!

You can’t deny the people who feel better eating a carnivore diet. I’m in transition…still eating salad but my joint pain is getting better.

@@Mantis858585 it’s a weaning process. I don’t eat salad (just romaine with Caesar dressing) everyday. Everyone has to find their own path to better health, but I believe high protein/fat and very low carb is working for me in many ways!

Dr. Westman was the first person I learned about ketogenic diet from. I lost 87 pounds, I've been living this lifestyle since 2012 so for 10 years now in ketosis the last two years I've been a carnivore. I finally lost those last 10 lbs I couldn't lose before and all the joint pain and miscellaneous health issues that I had and I will never go back to eating a plant-based diet in fact I don't even want to eat any plants anymore a carnivore works best for me. And Doctor Westman is one of my heroes he got me started on this path.

I do very well with ketovoire. I mostly eat nothing but meat but will decorate my plate with organic veggies. I do not do well with high fat with lots of butter. Tummy troubles are terrible

Thank you Dr Westman, That video of "Homo Carnivorus ...." by Barry Groves has really affirmed to me the sensibility of a carnivore way of eating. 👍 Ted.

I appreciate the honest review, same questions I have about Carnivore. I think it may be easier to curb cravings, but the boring factor of eating just meat might be hard. I havent been able to stick with either lately....I know keto works, it did for me before, and now I need to get back to it.

I did keto 3 years ago, felt really good, and lost some weight. Except my cravings did not go away so I slipped back into old habits easily and regained some of the weight. 2 months ago started back on low-carb/keto and transitioned to carnivore after 3 weeks. I'm on my 6th week and gotta say it feels amazing. I've noticed my sugar cravings have pretty much dissapeared, and I love sweets. I feel great energy-wise everyday, get better sleep, don't snore anymore, my glucouse level is controlled, building muscle naturally, and best of all my mental clarity is amazing and rarely feel as stressed or anxious as I'd feel before in different situations.

I think its a good for many people, I even have a few days in a row here and there where I do just carnivore. Things like when you do a "Sardine fast" or "Egg Fast", or just cook up 3 days of ruminant meats and eat just that.. I do not however feel better long term carnivore. I enjoy some veggies and actually feel better eating both as along as I keep my carbs in check. I had some issues I didn't care for when I did carnivore for longer than 30 days like SEVERE constipation, my HDL DROPPED and my satiety actually worsened instead of getting better, which is not what most experience. So I added back in the things that had me more balanced on Keto and those issues resolved. Carnivore is great for most, but not all.

Constipation on Carnivore is due to not eating enough fat. It has been so ingrained (brainwashed) in us, that "Fat" is Bad, that we can still shy away from actually adding it to our foods; such as scrambling up your eggs up in 2 Tablespoons or more of butter. Dr Bright emphasis that women need more fat in our diets for our hormone levels to be optimal. So if in the future you start leaning more toward carnivore, remember to enjoy the fattier meat cuts, and butter.

Here is where randomized studies of carnivore vs keto (with a small amount of plants) in a large number of people would be helpful to clarify the comparative benefits and side effects.
