@@tucoramirez6058 In chronological order: I took the Net+ in March 2022, then got a job as IT Support in April, stayed there for 1 year but before closing 1-year cycle, I was fortunate enough to be able to study even from work since it was really slow pace, so I took advantage of it and studied for the Sec+. After I passed, I waited until I was close to 1 year just to finish the circle and started applying for Jr. Cyber positions. I got it on the second attempt (didn’t imagine it would be that quick, that’s why I started applying a little before 1-year cycle cause I thought it would take me like 4 months to break into cybersecurity). The whole process from the first interview to my first day took about a month. I was gonna make 1 year at my previous job on the 11th this month. It didn’t even happen. But that’s fine I’ll still consider 1 year (from April to April so)… 😅🙂 [Edit] Oh, after I passed Sec+, I started practicing and focus on TryHackMe heavily. Ended up getting top 3%. I put that on my resume. Im also doing school part time, so all that together may have helped a little. You can find me through this nickname on TryHackMe.

That last part you said about the extraordinary person, is so true. I've been in telecommunications & IT for a long time now and there really wasn't anything special or significant about me. I was completely "boring" but I love learning and I tried to learn everything I could. It was always a little bit and I never thought about the money because I was doing what I enjoyed doing and, more importantly, I was learning. I'm now 10 years into it and, sure enough, I don't even need to "apply" for a job anymore. I simply change the status of my professional profile from private to public and, seriously, within days offers come pouring it. I'm actually in a position now where I can be picky and turn away job offers. I honestly couldn't tell you when it happened. But in the end I went from asking employers to give me a job to being asked by employers to please work for them. 10 years ago I never would have dreamed of turning away a job offer and now I often find myself saying "no thanks". That statement you made is so true. Stop focusing on the money. Just focus on the skills. Trust me, the money will come.

Its so overwhelming hearing it'll take 10+ years to be an expert at something when you're early 20s, I know throughout that time things will find its ways to expand and allow you to really see what is it is that'll you end up being passionate about but from someone who has been interested in this field for 5 years and is now just financially able to take steps into this field. I just hope since I am 25, by the time I hit my 30s I hope there's developments with AI to make things more easier for us to catch up to those experts that already currently have 10+ years experience.

Hi Shydra, MBA is a controversial topic, I went to business school (really highly rated one) but I can’t say I learned much to be honest. It can help but it’s really expensive and I dont think the return on investment is there. Some people use it to pivot to consulting. Your best bet is to try and move to a team lead role as soon as possible and gain experience. Experience trumps degrees any day in this field

hi Thiam, the title ‘security analyst’ can mean many things, it can be risk/GRC focused or technical focused. Also each bank is different, there is no standard ‘pathway’ but generally speakinf a security analyst can progress to become a senior analyst. Most analyst choose to remain technical so they become principal analyst for example or a tech lead, others choose to move to management/people leadership roles. This is so good ! Videos like these are absolute gems for people in a need of guidance and help. At times like these when layoffs are becoming so common and situations are getting so bad it is so important to understand these points in the video and gradually work on building our skills instead of focusing on the money. Thank you so much @UnixGuy for making this video I can't thank you enough ! Lots of love for you sir !

Hey brother, how are you doing? Hope it's all going good. As I have more then a years experience as a SOC analyst, I am looking for forward to pursue one of the specialization you have told which is cybersecurity Auditor, I have wrote down all the things like which certification to do which you have told, and all but the question is do we need to know the coding for becoming the Cybersecurity auditor? Like should I invest in learning it Or instead should I focus on certification as well as understanding PCI DSS HIPAA, ISO 27001, etc.?

I am doing a career change and I admit I am a little scared. I'm very interested in Cybersecurity, but want to work remotely. Before I start this degree program, is this work feasible working remotely or should I choose something else? All suggestions welcome and appreciated! Many thanks in advance.
@UnixGuy Жыл бұрын
Hey Abraham, this is totally normal because a career is a big big step. Remote work is definitely possible but it’s more company specific than a sector specific (i.e. some compnies will allow it others will prefer more hybrid). The job itself can 100% be done remote. It will be very helpful if you can respond. Thank You.
@UnixGuy Жыл бұрын
Hey Uday, glad you’re enjoying the videos my friend! It really depends on how demanding and challenging your degree is, if it’s challenging then I recommend you focus on that. You can pick a topic on the side and focus on it, that can be Penetration testing for example or it can be coding (like learning Python), it can be anything. You can go deep in a topic and get really good at it using free material/tutorials online. You can get certs later or in your final year, there is no rush really. Focus on gaining skills now as a opposed to certs
