As neighbours, we had plenty of good laughs with Dave over the years. We got on great with him. All I know of him as a man is what I personally experienced- and in that regard he was an amusing, witty, charming, and engaging man. His past was not my business- I took the guy at face value. I last chatted to him late one evening at the pub a few weeks before he died and he seemed in typically great form. You don’t often get to meet people who are such a force of nature and yet so engaged with you while chatting to you. When you were with him you had his full attention. He was a very large personality but in all honesty he was, one to one, a gentleman. And as his friend Brendan rightly points out, he was exceptionally amusing. All the best, Dave- it was fun to know you. And Brendan- I wish you all the best in the world. God bless.

Truly sincere love and respect here to Brendon for such a heartfelt interview. Absolutely with all my love sent to him as well as all the family as this gives a true tribute from the root of a friend that was so close to Dave Courtney well done here also to Liam Galvin for delivering a true honest message here and that is Dave as those that actually knew him for the kind soul he truly was. Dave yet suffering himself of which many never knew the extent of his pain yet still stood on the back of a dressed Father Christmas sleigh trailer pulled by a transit van dressed as Father Christmas for my charity to give presents on a ice cold day all day long for disabled and sick children just to bring a smile for them. What an amazing soul of life. For me that says alot about a man. God bless you sir your heart is truly true and will never be forgotten. We all love you sincerely and thank you. My lasting memory of Dave, after first sighting and meeting him several times at Heaven night club on Thursday night which was called, “Rage”, which was not a Gay night in 1990 - anyways in 1997 when I returned from a all inclusive health spa holiday in the Caribbean, I attended the Aquarium night. Despite only really exchanging pleasantries with Dave, he walked across the dancehall and said,”I am not gay or anything like that, but I’ve got to tell you, you look fucking well”, that small gesture, spoke volumes about the man and his endearing nature. So mr Courtney I truly hope you are resting in peace right now.

I never had the privilege of meeting Mr Courtney but I seen his video and some of the disgusting comments under the video. But after watching him and listening to his words and the sincerity of his words, but I completely understand why Mr Courtney did what he did and all the thoughts he had regarding his kids, friends and fans. To date I have had 5 spinal procedures, spinal fusions and other procedures. I served in the British Army for 13 years and had my spine shattered and crushed on operational tour. I was a member of the British Army’s Elite Regiment, I joined aged 16 and loved every single day I served and had many more years ahead of me before my injury. I was medically retired and when that happened, I was lost, in constant pain, my wife and I had three young kids and as far as I was concerned, I was going to be a terrible influence on them. They would leave for school in the morning with me sat on the sofa like a useless piece of flesh, my fear was they would think sat about the house all day rather than being out in the world being successful was the way forward and I didn’t want that. At the same time, it was my job to care and protect them as best I could until they were old enough to make their way in the world. I suffer with severe chronic back pain every single minute of the day and I take a mountain of medication, Morphine, Fentanyl, Ketamine, Amitriptyline, Tramadol, Gabapentine and Lidocaine Infusions every 6 weeks. Our youngest kid is 19 and still living with my wife and I, the other two are 20 and 23 at university and working. As soon as the 19 year old has finished college and got a job, I can slip off and stop being a burden on them all. Only my wife works, other than love I’ve not been able to give my kids anything growing up, they went without so many times because of me, school trips, fancy trainers, clubs etc. I totally understand Mr Courtney’s decision and for those who think living with chronic constant pain, for almost 18 years and opting out is the cowards way, I promise you it is not.

What a wonderful tribute Brendan! Never met Dave, but through reading 'Stop the ride' a quarter of a century ago and watching Dave's antics on various media sites, I had nothing but admiration for him. He knew who and what he was but he outshined as a genuine person. He always brought me to laughter watching clips of him, Yes he was a bit naughty, but boy did he have a great persona and sense of humour! From what I feel through watching him over the years, he was a truly special guy. I had not heard anything about his passing until last night, It was such a blow. But once again this was how he wanted to be remembered, very humble indeed. Personally I embraced the word 'Clump' to someone who needed one. Dont imagine there would ever be anyone with such a busy, topsy turvy lifestyle and always with a radiant smile on his face ever again! RIP Mucka.

What a fantastic explanation Brendon, everything you have said makes perfect sense to me because I think that’s the way I would like to leave this world, not as an old crippled man in pain, relying on others to do the most basic of daily things you should only do on your own, Dave was a very brave man to do what he did, he did love life and could have kept going for many years, but he knew in his heart that it would have been in pain. What a funny interesting man whi really lived life to the full. I really do get it with how he chose to 'get off the ride' and do it his way. As big a character as he was and there isn't much bigger, it just shows you thst you never know what physical and mental battles people are having and facing. What a great guy and character. Soon as I heard Dave's video I knew Brendan must have been aware. One of the hardest and most loyal things a best friend can do is understanding Dave's decision. Top man Brendan. - Steve Parnell

Great example of a true friend is Brendan. What a lovely gesture from Dave to make sure the disabled children got a gift from Santa. And buying that homeless bloke meals. Really great interview Liam. I'm sorry Dave is not still with you all fit and well.

got to say I grew to love Dave. I read his book when I was a yute and then I saw him a little disrespected by some gangland figures on KZbin like they thought he was too full of himself...but the magic of the man was that he didn't take himself too seriously either...it was all just a lot of fun. I saw his last video online and he told us not to be sad...but I was sad. I never knew him (but like everyone else in the world knew people who did)...but I'm gonna miss him. A kind, thoughtful and decent man with a big heart. RIP Dave

@@mrb9350 never heard about that. Cant comment. But if they owed money and could pay but wouldn't they don't get any sympathy from me
