This was a great interview. It's great to hear that DJ etiquette is still being talked about. As someone eats, sleeps, and breathes techno, there are rules one should follow. Standing on the booth is the quickest way for me to get turned off. Comedians get 15 minutes to do there thing, and you don't see any of them stage diving. DJ's usually get an hour. For me that's 1 hour I get to control the emotion of the dance floor. You will never catch me wasting time. I cut so much I don't even have time to look up at the crowd. Talent will prevail, like Chuckie said.

Loved this interview! Completely agree about the social media presence stuff. I've been in and out of the scene over the past 20 years or so and have seen really talented friends just not have the confidence / inclination to blast themselves over socials or put themselves out there online to get followers etc. and as a result just not go as far as they could. Damn shame. Lots of DJs and producers are techie and like stereotypical techies they like to keep themselves to themselves and just get on with the job.

Thank you so much for sharing! The purists that practice their talents will seemingly have a longer run than those focused on the social media channels. The world of producing and the world of djing are separate entities with their own mastery of skills for sure. Although a lot of thing are cross platform, arguably not all producers are djs but most djs can make great producers as they know what moves the crowd best from years of experience rocking dance floors. Luke, perhaps a video on the primary differences, strengths and weaknesses between the producer world and the dj world! See you in AZ USA soon with the worlds first DJ college degree program!

I had an opportunity to hang out with Chuckie and I gotta say he is one of the best DJs out there, I remember I couldn't take the look off the DJ booth (I was in the booth) and just enjoyed the magic this guy did! He played 2 of my tracks that night and I couldn't believe how welcoming and humble can one superstar be! Luke and Clyde are probably 2 of the best people in the industry and both have such a big influence on me! Keep killing it guys! I would love to see 2 of them play b2b all night club set, I think that would be pure fire!

Hi Luke, another great VLOG about the djing world. I have to agree with you both, the industry has been corrupted with social media taking a massive part. Personally I’d like to know how you progress to the next stage from a ‘supporting act’ artist? Companies just want you to sell tickets to earn a slot at shows. Don’t get my wrong I’ve been truely blessed supporting you and other big names within the industry but there isn’t any progression at all as supporting DJs don’t get artist bands to network with other promoters if there is any on the night.

I learned to beat match on Old shitty belt drive decks. Though it was fun I thought it was terrible....looking back it was the best thing that could have happened to me as a DJ....all new DJ's these days should start there....we would have way better DJ's with a greater appreciation for the art. Great vid Luke. I learnt to mix on crap equipment, even used the same equipment to have free parties in empty buildings! Where a "known" DJ turned up and said "I aint playing on that crap" I said "ok well f&*k off then" and continued rocking the party :) Learning on belt drives/ cheap direct drives creates a skilled vinyl DJ.

I like DJ Chuckie. He made a valid point. He mentioned sync briefly & he is right. With technology advancing the way it is, we have the opportunity to concentrate on other things to make the mix EVEN BETTER. Sync alone doesn't make you a good dj. Hey Laidback Luke, i was wondering what your thoughts were on the older DJ, myself i am 47 this year and i still have a huge passion for it although i dont really gig much any more but tend to upload a lot of mixes to social media etc! I would be interested to know the general age group of your fans, supporters, followers? maybe do an online poll or something. do you feel there is a stigma towards older DJs rather than up and coming younger DJs? If I've got to be honest - I was waiting for a vlog w/ Chuckie for a pretty long time. Really cool and wise material about DJing nowadays - many people, who are EDM fans seems to focus on the wrong aspect of the whole DJing thing... They call their favourite artist a DJ, while they like them rather for their producing skills (or sometimes their skills in finding skilled producer who produce music for them :P ), not for their DJing skills.
