You are the only guy I have found that actually would like to modify a gas piston to a spring piston. I completely agree with your assessment of gas piston guns and I seriously don't understand those who say they shoot smoother (I have an F4 that kicks like and angry mule on steroids)! I am on a quest to see if Vortek or anyone else can provide me with the parts to convert my F4 to a steel spring. I would think that Crosman ( and all other manufacturers as well use the same cylinder for both gas ram and springers). If I can find the parts it would be my first serious gun smithing project and I think it would be fun. I know an F4 is a low end choice for an expensive upgrade, but I just want to see if it can be done. Thanks for a great video, I love your perspective on airguns and on life - best part of your video is your sweat shirt! Keep the faith brother!

Thank you Lawrence. I definitely think this conversion is possible. But first step is going to be to getting into your rifle, take measurements and pictures. The maker of Marcari spring guides is also known for producing spring's and kits that have a more mild shot cycle 🙂👍.

what would be the pros/cons of a spring from gas piston conversion, i find its very quite and not a lot of recoil and can work the barrel easily , havent tired a true single pump spring *tried a few multi pumps but those are eh a plinking .177 airgun imo, i wouldnt mind a lot more recoil and or sound if it meant a higher fpe *i mean its fine as is but if its a semi-easily done conversion and has benfiits over the gas pistons (idk if its marketing hype or they actually are good, but i like the air rifle i have a lot to the point id rather put in money to modify and improve it as there isnt anything else under 300-200usd that ive liked as much , the gas piston compared to say a 30-06 bolt, deff is underwhelming *good for you ears but idk i like it loud call me an old head haha @@springpistonriflefeverlone9611

What I've seen with gas pistons is that you really need to stick with a quality manufacturer, of which I think only Theoben and Weihrauch fit the bill. Then absolutely tune it down to where you're in the mid-700 to low 800 FPS range (in .22). That is then the smoothest and most predictable break barrel experience you can possibly have.

Little tool/die maker trick. Take the pin out of your RWS that keeps sliding out. Get a ball bearing, set it in the hole on each side and smack it with a hammer (not too hard but hard enough). It will close the hole up by .01-.015 of an inch at a time. This will solve the problem of the pin falling out. And won’t effect anything else.

Spot on. There are some great budget air guns now in 177. I dont use 22 now. For info; Beeman 10616, 0.31" groups @ 30 yards. 998 fps with RWS 8.3 gr Superdome Field Line pellets, 18.3 fpe, silencer, 28 lb cocking, no droop, has open sights, very quiet. Nine pounds with scope. I shoot it like a deer rifle. Test group shouldered with front rest, light grip, 9x scoped. Jsb shoots no better but costs 5x more. The gun out shoots me even as a marksman. Much fun, smooth quiet spring, love this gun. Added a Tasco 3-9x 40mm AO scope and sling, a whopping $190 total package. Comes with a scope good for 20 yds or less. RWS superdomes are 2.6 cents each. They work well at low and high velocities. The gun is rated at 1,200 fps and shoots 1,085 fps with 7.0 gr lead pellets. Gotta love German engineering.

@@danielclapp636 I don't have one, but I have watched many videos on the Diana 34 22. I actually had one in 177 years ago and sold it regrettably. Depending on the altitude, pellet weight & fit, and if the piston seal and breach seal are in good condition, they are generally getting in the low 700's with Crosman Premier Hollow Point 14.3 pellets. That means 15-16 FPE. More than enough energy and speed to take out any rabbit 🐰 or squirrels 🐿️ Don't get too cought up in manufacturers claims of high FPS. It's all distorted hype or a flat out lie, to impress potential customers into buying their products. I hope that helps you some 🙂👍.

@tonybranton

They’re making these claims with superlight alloy pellets. Too light a pellet allows the piston to slam home. If they cared about their customers they’d tell the truth and say keep all the bedding screws tight. Check them for loosening after every few shots. Use a little blue locktite and every few hundred rounds put a drop of silicone oil into the transfer port and keep the barrel and cocking levers oiled with a heavy oil. Don’t use oils with a low flashpoint on the breech seal as it will cause dieseling which can wreck your springer. Pcp’s and pumps don’t make pressure spikes so they don’t diesel. Just be honest and pass along info like this and they would have loyal and happy customers.

On your Diana 350 have you checked to see if the E clip is installed in the cocking arm pin?, if not the pin will move all over the place and can work sideways enough to gouge your stock. I found this out the hard way after reassembling my model 34. It takes a 4mm E clip that goes in that little opening where the cocking arm folds together on the back side of the pin hole, there is a little groove machined into the pin that the E clip snaps into.

To covert to coiled steel spring look up Custom airseals Australia. I converted my Gamo silent cat to an overcharged IGT piston and that kittie BARKS! I later swapped the original steel spring back in with some shims and I tuned it with molybdenum to smooth out the shot cycle and control some of that jump. MACH 1 .22 are some amazingly accurate and powerful air rifles though they do shatter scopes and I've had to remove my scope and go iron sights cause of the issues I was having with the scope after a few thousand shots. wooooould this work on non gamo-brand- and is this an easy thing to do and or do smiths do something like this - also what were the fpe gains of supersonic .22 i mean if not like doubled don't think i want to mess with the already wild scope breaking piston - idk WHY all these breakbarrels are mainly scoped only if they bust them am GLAD i went adjustable irons they uh dont shift thankfully tho hatsan if you read this stuff USE ACTUAL TRITIUM rods and not cheap green plastics- it ruins feel aesthetic also messes with you in afternoon lighting , glows...... lol , and reflects FAR to much light at night, considering switching out for an actual TRITIUM NV eg what you see on a fn 5.7, very nice for low lighting as tree cover can make it dark even in the middle of the day *(dusk conditions) , also i imagine shooting way harder spring would destroy frame and rifle faster? i feel some wear on the cheaper parts eg cheaper scope and some of the plastics - had to adust hold so i don't bend the front of the hold, eh i found the problem with this video at least and explains why zeroing the scope was missing, i thought i was loosing my edge lmfao, nope litterally was moving and then i compensate lol, well i just hope they either make better scope mount kits and railing systems and or adjustable irons to kinda even the gap, as break barrel rifles are my new favorite kind as far as ease of use accuracy reliability and affordability ive seen some crazy strong .177 even which is impressive these pistons can hit harder than the weaker pcps even fpe wise, like nothing short of impressive- just wish they had friggen rail mounts - all i really need tbh is a good pic laser and iorns - annoying as i tried to mount one but i feel ON PURPOSE rail is too low for a standard compact laser on the top rail (which would have just been my goto- ideally zero the optic the the laser THRU it, and bam - but its toooo low - idk if they have a kit to rasie or lower attatchements - for weaver - not nearly as familliar as i awalys go picatinny if possible - reverse.universally compatible - looking into adding 1-2 side rails of pic , if it doesnt affect function or frame

Talk about hard cocking, have you ever shot the Weihranch HW90 Gas Ram? I just recently bought one in .20 caliber. The .20 is a favored pellet of mine. Shooting JSB 13.73 gr pellets, I have no idea the velocity or power but I get only a 2.5 inch drop at 50 yards zeroed at 30. It's a heavy rifle and the recoil gets soaked up by the weight of it very nicely. Accuracy has been outstanding with the pellets I use.

My understanding is they use the lightest alloy (non lead) pellets available to achieve published velocities, not the lead pellets we would use for pest eradication. I too wish they would publish real world velocity but they are trying to sell their product. I want to set up my chronograph one of these days to prove one way or another. I also watched videos that state best accuracy is achieved at lower velocity like sub 900 fps. I think accuracy is more important than velocity. Thumb up for the video. 😎

If all stock and scope mount screws are tight and you have a pellet that was working good, but now is not, most likely it's a broken scope. It could also be a broken main-spring, but velocity would drop off and you will know that if you have a chronograph. For knowing hold over and hold under, nothing works better than multiple targets, at multiple distances. I hope that helps you 🙂👍.

Thank you for this video I haven't finished watching it yet but the first thing you said about being able to dispatch your game humanely is very important to me. I can't stand how Canada has a stupid law that allows our air guns to not go over 500 ft per second without a license. Most of the Canadian de-tuned air rifles shoot at about 400 to 450 ft per second if you're lucky. Generally the first thing I do is take them apart and see if the American piston is in it or if they replace it with a Canadian lower compression piston, or if there's a bleeder hole drilled into it the Piston face, the next I checked the spring to see if they just simply put a weaker spring in it. For example I can never get these detuned Canadian Air rifles to diesel which tells me they don't generally make enough compression to diesel the darn pellets. For example I have a stoeger and I absolutely love that aie rifle. But it is a Canadian detune stoger therefore although very accurate it's wimpy and it doesn't drop small game like squirrels like it should it doesn't expand the hollow points as it should. So I like watching videos like yours to give me an idea of what other things I should be checking out and looking at to increase power but not only do increase power but also keep the accuracy correct and all of that. In other words being careful to not throw the whole system off. So thank you for your video I appreciate it

I’ve heard good things about the Hammers scopes for Magnum Springers too. Things change so frequently nowadays it’s hard to say. Leupold and Burris used to be hard to beat but today you have to spend $1,000 to get what we paid $300 for in the 80’s and the Varix3 is junk now IMO. I still use vintage Leupold and Burris Scopes and they work. On WHATEVER I put them on. I learned to intuitively hold over back many years ago so I don’t use mil dot unless they’re actually mils. 3.6 inches at 100 yds. Variables don’t represent this unless they’re first focal plane so I set my old 4.5-14 Leupold on 10X so it’s an accurate representation of a mil. I further tune it with a tape measure at 50 yds to check it. Lots goes into repeating accuracy. Most people don’t have the discipline to chase it down. The first super hot day and all that goes out the window and they can’t figure out why and they give up. A shootist is a shooter in all seasons

Thank you 🙂👍. I will not test with alloy pellets because they wreck air rifles. The piston has very little resistance, because of the lightweight pellet, causing piston slam. It's like a car driving into a wall with no cushion in front of them. This breaks mainsprings and crushes piston seals and when either, or both are damaged you lose FPS and energy. This is something the industry will not tell you, all they want to do is pump you up about a fast air rifle and take your money. The industry doesn't care if your air rifle doesn't last, all that they care about is that you keep on buying their rifles. And by industry, I mean all the companies that pushed these outrageous FPS. Weihrauch and Air Arms don't push big FPS, they deliver quality.

Zero for 20 yards first. You'll likely be zero at 30 as well due to rise and fall of the pellet. First zero on a vertical line for left right windage. Second, adjust scope for elevation, high or low. Your scope will tell you what direction to turn to pull the point of impact. So, if you're hitting left of a vertical line you'll want to turn the knob in the direction showing right which is the direction you want your impact to go. Same with up and down. Just start with getting a vertical line center zero first. Once you're zeroed at 20 yards, move your target to 30 yards to see where your hitting at that distance. You can decide then if you want to re-zero for 30. If low, re-zero at 30. If a little high, leave it as is.

The FPS claims on the CO2 are going to be much lower than what they claim. The first few shots will be faster and it will gets lower as you shoot the pistol. This is a fun plinking revolver CO2, but that's all it is. It's good for shooting pop cans and paper targets. This would be one of the worst home defense pistols. A shotgun would be a 1000 times better for home defense. If you are not allowed to have a firearm, the next best thing would be a baseball ⚾ bat and this would also be 10 times better than a CO2 pistol. Just make sure that you have a baseball glove in case this ever would end up in court to show that your baseball bat was a last resort and that you are not normally a violent person. This would help protect you in court.

When I was in the 4th grade I had a Daisy 880, eventuaklly broke, but I kept pumping over pumping it daily, and it eventually gave out. Then dad bought me a Marksman break barrel, and one day it just broke in half. I was standing there with barrel & cocking level just hanging in one hand, and the other hand was holding the stock. lol I was so pissed, I just threw it in the trash. I never bought another Air Rifle. Now 39 yrs later I think I want one. Don't know what I want though, as I know nothing about them. Break Barrel snapping in two really makes me not want to buy one again, but from what I've read they will last longer than a pumper. I don't want to pay over $250 though because at that price I may as well just savea little more and buy a supressor for my .22lr. My question to you or anyone who reads this, do I get a Walter Parrus, or the Winchester 1101s, or the Winchester 1977xs? Which order would you rate these from best of the lot to worst?
@springpistonriflefeverlone9611
@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 2 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Sounds like your stock screws came loose, and when you went to break your action open, only the barrel and compression chamber pivoted up while the stock stayed in your hands. Most likely it was not broken, just the stock screws came loose. With spring piston rifles, the screws need to be cleaned with alcohol and then use blue loctite to secure them. If you use a scope make sure you use blue loctite on the bolts. Spring and gas piston rifles will vibrate screws loose, that is why you need blue loctite. They no longer make the Walther Parrus, and the Winchester might not be the best pick. I highly recommend the Hatsan 95 22, being sold at Pyramid Air or Airgun Depot for 125 dollars. It is always possible to get a lemon, but knowing what to look for is very important. Please research my videos on the Hatsan 95 22. God bless! 😃👍

I have a 1990’s Diana 48 the barrel came loose in! I’m going to drill it and put two cold rolled pins in it. They along with green lock tite should hold it. I plan to shoot it until I wear it out. If I knew the alloy I’d weld it. I have a computer contrilled heat treat furnace and I’m a qualified tig welder so I could fix it PERMANENTLY and I may do it anyway but a springer slams so hard it needs to be done right if it’s welded. What may prove serviceable on one thing may snap the first time under impact.

No antibeartrap on the RWS , kind of scary I never saw anyone decock a breakbarrel before and didn't know it was possible, everyone warns about holding the barrel at all times when loading the breech. Do you feel like it's Dangerous? I agree with the comments about being honest about the FPS . What do you think about the Chinese Beeman RS2 ? I have one and people seem to hate on it. It spits out 14.3 discovery pellets at 720 + . It strikes me as very powerful. My other gun 177 cal Gamo its an old on Gamo Blackcat 1100 pre cat or sat triggers , I was at big 5 and talking about airguns to the saleman and the clerk says you interested in clearance models. I said yeah and he came out with this riffle no box and cheapo scope for $60 dollars . This riffle makes me look like a pro shooter I can hole in hole off hand at 12 yards and it's not really me. This riffle kind of freaks me out in its consistent placement. I'm not able to shoot like this even with my PCP . It doesn't seem terribly powerful and is easy or even very easy to cock . Gamo makes a nice riffle, I don't really like the whisper series with the big tapered cooking aid / moderators. It just looks too Sci fi to me looks like the spat guns in the John Carter of Mars series.

On decocking, there is always risk with operation of all air rifles. An anti bear trap is not 100% fail safe and you should always hold the barrel. Personally, I remove all bear traps from my rifles if possible. I always hold the barrel or under lever when loading. I like the ability to decock my rifle if I'm not going to take a shot, for what ever reason and it's nice to always have a pellet loaded, uncocked, ready for a pest or a surprise hunting opportunity that otherwise might be missed because of the game getting away.

I think they get away with it by using the verbiage of "up to" which means is all they have to do is get it to go the advertised speed once. Haven't graduated to those air rifles you are using yet, but have a Ruger Max Elite and Ruger Air Hawk in the spring piston air rifles. I like my Max Elite a lot better. how is the hatsan, i got a .22 and LOVE it , .30 sounds more my speed later on tho new to this company but so far a 160usd .22 repeating breakbarrel is the deal of the year for me, and not a sales rep i just but cheap but like still reliable *price to preformance - i do feel rifles in general a bit "naked" under 30 cal but yeah even at .22 it feels solid , the piston is CRAZY powerful i have night terrors of dry firing it lmao, wish the clips counted shots like the gammo but they at LEAST have a second to last indicator if you keep an eye on it = asking cause idk how close mine is but eh 750-800fps with 18.13gn idk what the magnum gammos do but i assume around that? - if its SIGNIFICANT -id prob look more into the MOD130s , tho also is it like really $$$, caue tbh if its the same as .30 pcp pretty well built or something then it looses some appeal but after going from .177, to .22 feel .25 HEAVY or light .30 esp for windage is perfect lol idk you have .30 + .22 just asking if it is sig above the .22 in FPE, and if so you feel it really matters , as after 20+ it feels like plenty of power for a detterant trail rifle/occasional target practice with safer area (500yrds of open forest no ppl - at least private property and so SHOULDNT BE....) creating kind of a "range" for it cleared all rocks and other dangerous objects ect - new to break barrels but LOVE EM - feel like the best poor mans projectile weapon and with even 9mm over 1usd A ROUND , yeah ill go broke lmfao, vs a 25usd tin that lasts (assuming you dont bash em up- jsb is REALLY bad about deforming or idk if its just the tin I GOT? - it still hits straighter than like other cheaper brands like fx slightly deformed- worried more about barrel damage tho , but if it feeds fine and fires fine i feel thats just paranoia tho i ask more than less as i nearly blasted cleaner down the barrel due to bad info, but try to check multi sources last thing i want is to get a rifle i like and then kill it lol :/ poor scope already did her in but to be fair got for iorns and used the scope with it for fun mainly but yeah what the guy said like - these pistons DESTROY OPTICS , which is why i find it so odd they dont even include adustable front irons *(only backup with scope failure) or sometimes NO IRONS SCOPE ONLY!? eh , i was taught irons first and when that is not enough to hit far then master a scope, but like with how they are getting bashed with only a few 100 rnds idk if its just the weaver rail actual optic piston or all of the above but deff not long term compatible, use it as monocular now lmfao.

I use those gamo recoilless mounts on six of my guns. gamo say those shock resistant scope mounts take away 95% of kick away from your scope. A additional benefit is changing scopes doesn’t mark your rifle. I just ordered four more from gamo in Spain. I don’t like the synthetic stocks but that’s just me. But real shooters I can understand the practical benefits. Give me a walnut stock and some quality blueing anytime. But I’ve got a gamo and can’t sing it’s praises enough it’s powerful incredibly accurate and feels rock solid and best of All it has a bsa cold forged barrel and Italian Minelli stock. We find if you have too much power the accuracy suffers or to be honest you can’t his shit. And the shooters in competition use less power so less recoil and more accuracy. Just put lock tight on your cocking arm pin. All air rifles are good. You learn a lot shooting air guns. you should try a TX200hc you’ll love it. Great honest blog cheers from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I shoot at 3 of my local ranges and gun clubs we shoot rifles pistols and compound bows I mostly shoot with two friends and my daughter. I bought my two friends a bsa lightning XL GRT SE. About four years ago for Christmas they both still shoot regularly. It’s good way to catch up ,insult each other and laugh for about 4 hour. And actually they are very good. Can’t tell them that. sorry back to the TX200HC. They are expensive. Around £800 for the walnut. I think that’s 950 dollars For that you get a German Walther tuned barrel. The shock is made in Italy by Minelli and one of the nicest stocks I’ve ever seen But the middle bit with the incredible smooth trigger is made here , a true made in England gun. I was lucky one of the guys at my local gun shop knowns the guys at AirArms. He got the factory to email me pictures of all the walnut stocks. I picked a black walnut stock and it’s a sunning looking gun , everything the build quality the finish is gloss black nickel nitrate it’s a mirror finish. All these things put together is why it’s considered the best spring powered rifle in the world. I think it’s won the world championship 7 times in a row. I know that means nothing to us but it’s still impressive in a world of German guns. I hope you get your hand on one. @@davemonday5381 Air Arms lovers will always love Air Arms and Weihrauch lovers will always love Weihrauch. I'm definitely not racist when it comes to spring piston rifles, lol. The design of the TX200 was stolen from Weihrauch. The original HW77 had the lead on field target competition for many years and I believe it's still got the record. I believe that the Air Arms TX200 comes from the factory tuned and the HW77 does not, that can make a big difference. I have an HW77 22, 16 FPE version. It's a tack driver for sure, but I have no tune kit in it. I will probably do a DIY pop bottle shim tune, for the guide. @@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 was I being racist against weihrauch I own 3 hw’s. But your right I’m biased towards the British gun’s mainly webley’s and bsa’s I still have my first meteor my dad bought me when I was 10 years old. Last year I went to pick up a brand new Hw. There was something not quite right when I broke the barrel, this is at the counter at the shop. First they took it in the back and took the stock off did something and brought it back out. I wasn’t impressed but they put in the box. When I arrived home a hour later , I got it out the box when I tried to cock it , it crushed cracked and felt like metal on metal a lot of metallic grinding and not in a nice way. I didn’t attempt to shoot it. I took it back. They told me I couldn’t have my money back but they would send back for repair but it would cost me. I said give me a different gun. They got another HW out but it wasn’t the same model it wasn’t any better. Crunchy and rough metal on metal. I took it home and I’ve still never used that gun. In comparison I bought a bsa and noticed a slight fault with the stock I contacted the factory and bsa replaced with it 48 hours on a bank holiday. They apologised to me via email sent me poster brochures and an bunch of trigger locks. They couldn’t do enough for one of there customers. So yes I’m biased. So I bought there entire range. I won’t be buying another veihrauch any time soon the shop put it down to lack of quality control because of lockdown. That’s not good enough. The old guy at my club don’t know there any other make of gun other that weihrauch. So it shows how brand loyalty can be blind I quit often have one thrust on me boingy twangy things. So let’s remember bsa’s and webley’s won two world wars. The German guns came in second place. And I bet if I check weihrauch didn’t invent the under lever air gun. I think they was around at the turn of the century. You have the beeman b1. Weihrauch s copy is called the weihrauch HW45 I have one and that’s crunchy too. So I do have my reasons.

@@davemonday5381 That's too bad that you had bad experiences with them. Perhaps they were returns at the shop that you bought them from. Perhaps the old fellow that had them HW's that you speak of, has gotten only good ones. All 4 of my HW's work very well and are extremely accurate. My HW95 Luxus 22 is my go-to rifle for hunting and pest elimination. Air Arms once had the Pro Sport Elite, what does not make any more break barrels. Webley no longer functions in Britain, only Turkey, to bad for them (Turkey) right now. I hear they hate us and that Syria hates us. Don't get it, I never did anything to them. Back to the subject, lol. I believe Gamo is preventing BSA springers from coming to the USA. A gas ram BSA is being sold at AoA for too much. Right now I can't afford anything at all, so the TX200 or ProSport will have to weight. BTW on AEAC, Steve shoots the TX200 and HW97 and I notice zero difference between the accuracy of these 2 rifles. As far as World War II and Germany, we can't change the past and I can't hold animosity against people that did not cause those atrocities that were done in that country. Right now our world is headed in a very bad direction quickly. The Illuminati elites, want to put something very evil into our bodies, control the whole world 666 and get rid of the undesirables. If you don’t have a Benjamin pump look into them. Namely the 342. They made a short run of 342’s in the Sheridan factory in 1990. These guns are THE PREMIER Benjamin.22 cal pump rifles ever made and make more power than the standard 342 and Tim builds them and the 392 (the modern version of the 342 made overseas into Steroid versions and they kick major butt! No better packable powerful self powered guns made in my opinion. Tim McMurray, Mac 1 Airguns online, is the authority on all Benjamin pumps as well as Crosman pistols and his own custom BR rifles. I went straight to Tim when I got into these guns as they are the best survival rifle made. Brass, doesn’t rust and doesn’t foul with lead so all you need are pellets and the guns for survival. Of course get a bottle of Tim’s secret sauce. I plan of showing these and more on my KZbin page soon.
