I think Gamo is the entry point to break barrels for a lot of people, they do/did a lot of advertising in the gun mags that’s what got me interested, bought one and returned it to buy a Diana 48. Nest was my AA TX200 and Beeman R9. I wish Diana would get a little more exposure with their side levers, they are great guns also. Air guns should be more popular than they are, really great fun and you can shoot them in lot more environments than powder burners, and no ammo shortages. Keep up the good work!

Hi Chuck, I'm Ian, from the UK. Thank you for your video's and your honest opinion. If some folks want to blow a gasket about that, thats upto them. The Diana 34, as far as I'm aware, was launched to replace the Diana 35's. My father left me two Original Model 35's, in .177 and .22 calibre's. The Diana 35's, from my research weren't classed as great, and in the 1970's, didnt move with other rival manufacturer's and improve, so got left behind, hence the Model 34, which I understand was much improved. Your Model 34 looks great. I think they improved too. Both of dad's air guns, I'd guess, were owned by non air rifle enthusiasts. Their stocks weren't in the best shape, and looking through the underneath, the springs were very dry, unlubed and unloved/cared for. They also had buzz/twang, which I dont like. With my father in mind, I stripped both units. Both had leather piston seals, which I replaced for their modern equivalents, along with their breech seals. They didn't have top hats, so I made those out of delrin bar. I sleeved the spring guides and piston insides. I used the relevent greases and re-assembled. I was my first attempt at tuning and so excited to try out the airguns, to see how they shot, and to see if I'd gotten rid of their buzz/twang? It was last October/November time, and I really struggled with the weather, winds, and rain, for a settled opportunity to shoot. When I did, I'm pleased to say both air rifles shot great, no buzz or twang, more of a zip noise. Their triggers were'nt great, and I suspect part of the reason they were as popular. I feel I made the rifles as good as I could. I worked hard on them, made them the best I could, and amongst many other things, they make me think of dad when I'm with them, though I think of him anyway. That journey also made me realise which calibre I prefer, too, after shooting both identical units together. I chose .177 calibre when I began airgunning, and I'm glad I did. I found the .22 calibre slower in comparison, with much more trajectory. I found the .177 calibre flew much quicker and hit harder. It's .177 calibre for me. In your video, personally, I don't think Gamo spring air rifles have the might to be compared with the likes of Weihrauch, etc. You only have to look at the breech/lock up areas to realise the superior build quality and the over engineering of the Weihrauch's. There is no comparison for me. I just think the Gamo's etc are made to a budget and will appeal to a certain sector of the market, the sector that will buy them and not want to part with the money a Weihrauch/Air Arms would demand. Quality costs, its that simple. Personally, it's Weihrauch/Air Arms everyday of the week, for me. They are engingineering masterclasses and that's what you pay for. Best wishes, Ian.

@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 Hi Chuck, Thank you for your reply. Is nice to hear from you and read your opinion. When I first found the 35's, I thought they were Weihrauch HW35's. It was wintertime and dark. My humble opinion of them is they are very good air rifles, and I wish Diana had kept in line with their competitors and continued to improve them. However, they developed the Model 34 instead later. The .177 version is very good and great out upto forty yards. Obviously, things are different now. I'm older and in a different financial position. However, if I was a schoolboy and that was my rifle, I'd have been so thrilled, and I would have made sure I was efficient with it. I'm sure you'll know that Diana is a superb air rifle manufacturer. Their Models 48, Air King Pro, 52, and 56 are superb. They are sidelever actions. The Air King Pro is a beast. It's super solidly made and has pcp accuracy. I'd have one, only they are very heavy, and I prefer an underlever to a sidelever and they are loud cocking, though they are truly sublime, super built air rifles, and they'll out live us many times over. Best wishes, Ian.

@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 Hello My friends, Thank you for sharing your stories. Yes, I struggle, too. It was 2017 for us. I think I should have sought mental help at the time. However, I come from a time where mental health wasn't talked about, and if you did, it seemed to be a sign of weakness. Yes, I miss my dad every day. Some days, I'm stronger than others, though never that strong. With my Grandad, I got to a time when something told me my grieving was done, and it was time to move on, and I felt fine with that. I loved my grandad dearly, too. Though, I've not felt that with my dad. I feel close to dad when I'm shooting and fishing. When we lost our dearly loved dad, I found a block of beech amongst his belongings, which had the shape of a basic air rifle stock drawn out in pencil. I couldn't touch any of dad's belongings as he was a very private man, though I placed that block of wood to one side, and with mum's permission, some time later and with hand tools, as dad would, I shaped the stock to the pencil line. I loved my dad very much, and I knew what his hands looked like, especially his thumbs and around his wedding ring. When I was working wood, with the rasp file, my hands felt like my dad's, as the stock came to life. It was a really strange feeling, though that's what I felt. When I was younger, I took after my mum a lot. As I'm in my fifties now, I take much more after my dad. I shoot and fish and love making anything I can, though never to my dad's standard. I don't think the pain of loss ever goes away, I think it has to be managed. So there'll always be tough times. I don't think there's a finish line that we cross. I wish there was. It's good to talk. Thank you x. Ps. The air rifle stock I made from dad's blank, hangs on my wall. I actually made a duplicate, in pine, with a lovely wood grain, and that is a fly tying tool tidy. I drilled holes in it, and all my fly flying tools stand inside it. Although I think of my dad a lot anyway, these things are just another reminder. I used to stand behind my dad as he tied flies. Baby Dolls and Daddylonglegs, lol, we're the flies of the day. That was how I initially learned. There was no online and Utube back then.

I ended up selling it and bought the Ruger/ umerx riffle and really liked it , I ended up giving that one to my friend to convince him breakbarrels are as fun as 22cal lr plinking , then I got my Beeman RS2 I know a lot of people look down on it but for me its still a sweet hard hitting riffle , I know its Chinese made but for me its still a fine riffle with a good adjustable trigger. I've moved to pcp for the most part now but your discussion today made me remember how much I love that riffle , Im going to pull it out on my next trip. Another UK shooter here. Thanks for the video. I bought my first rifle aged 14, 52 years ago - so I've been doing this for a while. As far a quality goes, when shopping I'll start with three brands: Air Arms, BSA and Weihrauch (Beeman in the US). The most costly in perceived value for money is Air Arms but you will never regret spending the money once you own one. Build quality, finish, accuracy and smoothness of operation are hard to fault. The oldest rifle I have had from new is an AA S400, it has shot tens of thousands of pellets, is still as accurate as the day I bought it and the equal of anything else I own. Last year I bought an Air Arms TX200, my first springer in decades. OK, its an under-lever rather than a break-barrel and its a bit heavy for hunting but I only shoot on the range and it does not disappoint. Have fun and shoot safe.

@@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 Air Arms S400 is a single-shot unregulated PCP, available in .177" and .22". It has a Lothar Walther barrel and is generally sold as 12 ft-lb as this power level does not require a firearm certificate in the UK. It comes with various stock options, left and right-handed, beech or walnut, rifle or carbine length. The S400 is currently their entry-level rifle. At £669 UK pounds it isn't cheap. Am currently re-building mine for air rifle bench-rest and have fitted an after-market (Lane, no affiliation) regulator. Consistency as standard is pretty good but regulated is four times better. My firearm certificate came up for renewal during covid lockdown when all the ranges were closed, so I sold all my powder burners and went back to air exclusively. I shoot or have shot targets from 6m air pistol to 1000yard target rifle with clays (skeet) in between. With air I currently shoot 10-50 yards rifle and pistol on my local rifle range.😀

I Also have a Cometa Fennix 400 Star and while it’s not quite as good in build quality as the Weihrauch’s it cost less than half the price and is just as accurate as the 95 and 50.

Thanks for the personal history. I think there are lots of people who will be able to relate to your story. Yeah, it's all about the after-sale support. We airgunners tend to shoot more than firearms people. Especially when we have decent places and time to do it. To me, there isn't anything better than a shooting session with an air rifle. Doesn't matter if I'm hunting, plinking, culling, or ten m shooting, So when something needs a little care, I want the manufacturers to be there for their own products. Either that, or we'd better know a machinist and be prepared to shell out fair appreciation for their skills and willingness to fiddle with our hobby tools. As always, all the best, Harv

Great Video Chuck and I can vouch that everything you said is accurate whether others like it or not. I have spent basically my whole life shooting air rifles or BB guns, which started around 5-6 and got my first Benjamin somewhere around 9-10 years old. Over the last 15 years I've spent thousands of hours learning from the then older gentlemen on the GTA forum and have 102 pages of post their after it was archived around 2012 and I haven't checked the archives to see how many was there, but do use it to look up info and read from my old posts about my older airguns. It's almost like my journal because I posted, asked questions, answer question and debated ideas along with posting reviews almost daily until it seems KZbin and now Facebook groups have pulled many away from using the forum near as much. The airguns use a softer steel has been around as long as the GTA forums and I don't think any of them use a harder steel like a firearm would, But Hatsan does claim they use German steel in their air rifles for what it's worth so I would assume it's most likely as good or better than what some guns made in China might have, but that's just a guess. The Chinese can make quality air rifles these days if they want to or the company they are making them for specify it and stay on them about quality control. Hatsan is kinda the same way. Many people don't know that Hatsan makes firearms under their own name and for other's also, mostly shotguns that I know of. I'm more tolerant to modern plastics as Chuck calls them. I was skeptical of Glocks and their polymer frames when they came out out around 1982-83. I bought my first Glock about 6-7 years ago and have no issue with the modern materials when they're used in areas that don't have a lot of stress and wear. I wouldn't buy a Gamo after they went to the the polymer over steel on the barrels and polymer breech blocks somewhere around 2013, unless it had a steel breech block and barrel. A.I. is getting scary, Chuck you should Google " gamo breech block material " and read what A.I. learned from the internet, heck everyone look it up lol. I was impressed and scared at the same time what A.I. came up with. Anyone from this comment you can see I spent way to much time discussing and researching airguns and why I have 102 pages of post on GTA. Chucks video did give me an Idea though. I just bought what Gamo is calling the Gamo Rocket Gray, It still don't have that polymer over steel barrel lol, but the idea he gave me was to shoot and video that break barrel to death starting with the shots through the Chrony I have on video plus 25 or so shots off camera burning off the lube. Now I wish it was a .177 cal lol. Not really. I'll have to stock up on Crosman premier hollow points in .22. Still have 3 new tins of .177's of course, but on one new tin of .22's. I'll get about 2000 more and will just make a simple series of me plinking spinners and such with groups through in every tin of pellets I go through. I do like that gun, but if it wears out and I can't fix it my Gamo Shadow 1000 gets a new stock to wear. I will also video the pivot pin and the about of play it has to start with because it does have some, I checked the other day. It has some grease on it from the factory. The bottom line is the breech and pivot has the most pressure and should be made of steel. It's the most critical parts on a break barrel because if the lockup isn't solid it will never be accurate when the scope is mounted on the receiver/compression.

I have a TX200 Mk111 and a HW97KT. The build quality, and overall finish of the Air Arms is superior. I always show people the locating mount for the fore end stock screws, just to prove the point. The HW has just a bent piece of metal with two tapped holes. The TX has a machined Aluminium block. Sums up the extra quality throughout the rifle for me. That does not detract from the fact, that these are two very, very accurate rifles. At present the HW sports an Element Helix. The TX, a Sytong HT60. So the only reason that the HW currently out shots the TX past 50 yards, is the greater magnification. As a basic rule of thumb, "You get what you pay for". And don't buy anything that you can not pronounce the name of. Nice video.

I am in the UK where there is a strict 12ft lbs power limit. Many of the spring guns lose power quickly. They broadly fall into two categories, the ones that start at around 10ft lbs and drop to 8 or 9 and the 11.5 ft lbs rifles that drop to 9 or 10 ft lbs. These may be the same models as you have in America but something has been changed. The more expensive rifles tend to be at the 11ft lbs end but in some cases they have poor springs. Gamo guns are relatively inexpensive, although more expensive than in the US, but they tend to be around the 11 ft lbs and have reasonable springs and seals. Being lower power may mean they last longer and they certainly shoot with less recoil. The .22 spring guns have less recoil and shoot smoother than .177 as they need less spring power, being around 10% more efficient. So things are a bit different on our side of the pond. Thanks for your videos.

@@waynemayle865 Sorry to hear that.😕 I had a Benjamin Black Lightning ⚡ that had a moderator that was removable. When I removed the moderator, accuracy improved dramatically. Also, I added holes with a drill bit in the end of the moderator and that improved accuracy with the moderator on. Ps, check all stock and scope mount screws 🪛 for tightness, because loose screws will cause accuracy to wander. Make sure that the barrel is cleaned out good. Try different pellets and try a different scope. I hope some of these suggestions can help you.😃👍 Sometimes the muzzle needs to be deburred.

hatsan is by far the worst. you talk about Gamo not selling parts, I get that critique. Difference between hatsan and gamo is that when you get a bad gamo or something fails, you will have a 1-3-5 year warranty on the gun that gamo ALWAYS honors. I know because I own 8 gamo break barrels and have done warranty repair/replace 4 different times, always getting a good gun as a result. When I bought an expensive .25 break barrel from hatsan, the rifle came to me with the barrel assembly and lockup position being completely bent/warped out of spec. To the point the gun would shoot 2 feet high and to the left at close range, it was unusable. I paid money to ship it back to hatsan, they ghosted me for at least 5 or 6 weeks, and when I finally got a hold of them they had a horrible attitude like they couldnt care less and told me they would be willing to "help" me by selling me a $150 new barrel assembly for my almost $300 supposedly new break barrel. I was shocked by this and needless to say never had any confidence in hatsan ever again. I had one of their Jet pistols explode in my face when the firing pin shattered, they didnt care at all about that one either and told me "sorry we're out of pins" and when I inquired further they ghosted me again. I pretty much take any opportunity to crap on hatsan because of how badly theyve crapped on me. But i sing Gamos praises, their newer gas piston guns are phenomenal when you get a nice one, I just got my 8th and newest gamo break barrel the other day, a Swarm DX in .22, paid $152 out the door and this thing shoots like an absolute dream. Its my second gen1 swarm maxxim style rifle from gamo, after owning so many gamos this design is by far my favorite so I had to get a second one. put a 3-12x BugBuster on that thing and it runs a soft shooting 650fps with crosman 14.3s, its quickly becoming my favorite break barrel. Some day Ill have a weihrauch if I can stop buying Gamos lol
