13:00 That's definitely true when the Bass plays the same notes ass the Kick. Because if they are not exactly in phase, and they are probably not, you gonna have deconstructive interference. Especially since you do not use LFOtools to 100% most of the time. Consider even a sidechain on a dynamic eq to just duck the frequency if the kick hits

Great video as always, Zen. My biggest tip for bass is: buy Trilian. It's the perfect mix of analog and digital sounds and literally perfect for every dance genre that exists. Trilian is a god-damned machine!

Great video Zen. I've heard so many different opinions when it comes to EQing the subs of your bass, some big time producers like to leave them since they will be felt (not so much heard) once the song is played in a big PA system, others like to remove them since it gives you more headroom. I personally think that if the bass is well designed you probably don't need to EQ them. I've been using deceiver for a while now and I feel that most of your bass presets actually have the right amount of subs :)

14:34 can you explain what this means, music theory wise? Dragging the envelope follower to the frequency. How would you implement this with other plugins ? Why do you want to do this ?
@ZenWorld Жыл бұрын
Keep it simple. it's telling a knob to move under ADSR rules. Ableton has an envelope follower, and you would do this anytime you want the automation to not be fixed but rather applied in a way where it reaches MAX CHANGE and then decreases back to no change using the ADSR format.
@jojomarino73274 ай бұрын
@ZenWorld Kyle watson does the same thing you do, cutting the kick fundamental frequency in the bass eq. He just uses waves f6 in dynamic mode triggered by the kick channel. Thanks again

Thanks, maybe it’s just me, but i find leveling drums (hh snares claps) much harder than leveling kick n bass and all the stuff around it…as a rule of thumb i found that on a -12 kick scale removing 2-3 db does the job (obviously with sc, saturation, compressions and alike). But the hh or the snares…oh boy…always either too loud or buried down..not to speak about vengeance loops which sounds great on its own but a hell in the mix…in short…i’ll be glad to see something about mixing drums, i watched many vids and tested many configs but nothing really on spot…btw, i’m gonna buy one of your deciever packs these days and dissect some loops (hopefully there are some in there)…btw your videos are entrataining to watch even if you say not new things ❤

VIDEO IDEA!!!! Thank you that's an interesting one to make.
@opticghost8035 Жыл бұрын
Have you tried to gate your Snare and pan your HiHats? It's not always about DB, but more about perceived hearing. For example, panning your HiHats slightly to the right, and changing the velocity of each hit will make it stand out. You dont have to go crazy on the Hats , just enough to seperate it from, what ever it is clashing with.

Not sure if anyone else has this issue but for some reason the mid frequencies of my bass are always low in volume and my sub and kick relationship sound good with the rest of the track. However when when I try to open up the filter a bit or increase resonance to boost the cut, it lets in brighter frequencies that aren’t the vibe. I’ve tried boosting the kids with EQ and it doesn’t ever really sound good. Anyone ever run into this problem?
@ZenWorld Жыл бұрын
24db pole filters, so you want a filter with a tighter slope to allow less highs up. From there look at your sound design, you might have frequencies from the oscillators layered up higher.
@igorgarciaru8 күн бұрын
same thing happens to me. How I try to deal with it is with either SplitEQ, to let the transient of those brighter frequencies pass, but tame the tonal part. Or with multiband compresion, targeting that band, adjusting the attack to let the initial click but tame it afterwards. I've seen other people control it with a second filter, that closes a little bit more.

Yo @Zen very good tutorial! Maybe an idea for the next one, can you explain about the rms volumes and how loud the kick and bass rms volumes should be and not only the peak?

RMS is trickier I usually use peaks to explain it to people with more tremendous success. I think there are some out there though.

Rezz mixes her music on a pair of SOL headphones. She said those are the headphones. She always listens to all music on, so she knows how things should sound And then my personal opinion I feel like her mix of kick drums interaction with base is as good as I’ve ever heard from anyone in the industry Especially with her and deadmau5 team up Their newest song infraliminal has such a beautiful punchy thirded kick. I love it, and Hypno currency another amazing kick drum and her solo song without mau5 someone else is awesome So she has proved it that if you use headphones you are familiar with you can mix amazingly and have it work on monitors
