Managers are so narcissistic and unappreciative towards employees especially in RETAIL. Also I love how they play dumb mode when you ask them questions like cutting hours off people that work hard. Meanwhile the lazy people that don’t do nothing get more hours 🙄 It’s Favoritism BS

I left when my group supervisor who was a good guy retired and was replaced with a toxic (in my opinion) one. You can't really go one level up and complain about that. I was in a very large organization (3000-4000 employees) and tried to move laterally to a different sub organization and use a cover story that I wanted to work in a different area of interest but I didn't get that to work. I eventually went to a different employer.

My boss was horrible to me. I was forced to work 12 hour shifts with no breaks. I was a hostess at Applebee's for 6 years and the environment was toxic. I had no help on Sundays with the church crowds on afternoons I HATED it. I never experienced stress like that before. I found a new job after so many years. The hours are flexible I get holidays off and the people are alot better. Btw my boss said if you hate your job then leave. They crossed too many boundaries with me. My coworkers threw me under the bus and screwed me out of my days off. So I didn't give them a notice. I said my last day is tomorrow and I'm not coming back. I felt so disrespected by my coworkers. Some of them didn't know I was leaving. Other people had privileges i was a good employee so why treat the lazy employees like gold and hard working ones bad? Last I heard they went through 5 hosts after I quit. Wonder why. What goes around comes around. They don't give 2 weeks notice when they fire us. Why give a 2 week notice when we quit? All I can say is that they gonna notice me walking out the door

The company had recognition awards every year in every location. It was usually a trip to Disney or an amusement park out of state. Management would recognize 1 or 2 employees who worked hard, helped out, and exceeded expectations. Guess who they picked? Every year it was someone on the leadership team. Never an employee and they worked harder than these leadership people. Years later we found out they were suppose to be picking floor employees. Leadership did not qualify according to policy. What a slap in the face!

Found this amazing quote from an article about "quick quitting", apparently the practice of quitting shortly after being hired ... something I've regularly been doing since my first job and this quote perfectly sums up the mindset. "Employers expect me to make a great first impression within 90 days of onboarding. I expect them to do the same." If you're a shit company or a shit boss and clearly only hiring me as a number or metric to track and not seeing me as a partner or even as a person the buh bye, I got no time in my life for that shit.

I'm at the burnout stage, to the point where I had a medical event at work. Just hanging in there until my annual leave. I've told my boss that I'll be using my time to consider if I want to come back to work. We've had a beautiful photo of him receiving 'manager of the year' to look at, which is awesome, as generally he's a great manager. But, we've had to pay the price of staff not being replaced when they leave, constantly being reassured that they're interviewing and hiring people, which never eventuates for some reason. Maybe they didn't like the small print, where it says they're expected to do much more than their contracted hours to the point where they're never home with their families, for as long as it takes for them to find new staff... who never arrive

another great point is the discrepancy in praising the company (highest volume of sales, great new projects, we're growing faster than ever, ...) immediately followed by not trickling down those great achievements to those who made the success possible (no raises, no budget for pay bumps, just a BBQ to celebrate), yet another new project added to your workload... so am I really paid enough for the work I do? - in the end it comes down to more work without more money so exactly what you described. no appreciation and steering towards burnout 🤷‍♂

What most managers don’t realize is that most people are willing to go above and beyond and find a way to make things work if they are appreciated and given some type of incentive. Most of us don’t ask for much, we’re here to work and go above and beyond when it’s needed. But when that “above and beyond” is taken advantage of with no compensation or even appreciation, that’s when we start looking for other jobs. Even if we can’t get a raise or a bonus, or even a freaking pizza party, bosses could at least be more appreciative and inspiring.

It's the pencil pushing, bean counting power trippers that get me. The ones that aren't interested in improvement - they only want us to do exactly what we are told, while also being expected to read manager's mind and give them what they WANT as well. I think the actual problem is that managers don't actually know what the job entails and consistently undervalue and underestimate the actual work required. Also that managers mostly have no actual managerial training. No training in conflict management or professional communication.

Lack of flexibility is a big one. Companies are imposing dictatorial mandates in their policies in recent years in a way they never did on a widescale in the past, with zero respect for employees individual rights, boundaries, personal beliefs, unique needs, etc. This is especially true of big companies. Companies have gotten too big in general, and this leads to less flexibility. We need more small businesses which helps there to be more interaction between employees and leaders.

without naming names, my last role lasted 2.5 months because of a toxic culture and shithead manager. Whenever my former manager says he isn't trying to micromanage me, he actually was. He has no idea how to treat employees, and when I asked him about why the former staff members left he had the audacity to lie through his teeth. leaving was the best thing that ever happened and I am working for another employer who values what I bring to the table

I was offered an additional role with a promise of additional incentives while already holding another role.. I was told that I only need to do the reporting and some presentations while I leave the sales job to the manager.. before accepting the role, I told the boss that I want to see an offer letter with mentioning of the job description.. it never came… as time progressed, my tasks seems to increase and I was even required to find sales and so many other things that I wasn’t briefed about.. I ended up getting really burnt out and it affected my mental health… so I started to set boundaries and guess what? They all start to talk behind my back saying how incapable I am.. spreading lies to business partners etc etc telling them how bad I was… 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@LeadershipwithMike Yes... The Key takeaway in regards to what I have experienced is that: We must ALWAYS request for a JD (Job Description) before we accept an offer. This is to safeguard ourselves and not getting exploited by an employer to get us to do more without compensating us. It is a hard but valuable lesson learned.

Exactly. My manager unfortunately was very rude to us and overworked us and squeezed as much juice as possible from us, never complimented us or said thank you ever and would sometimes take our tips. But he had that yearly pizza party or Chinese food and I think he felt that would make everything okay.

And the scariest part (whether the manager cares or not) is that those employees, if they have enough self-respect, wont even give the manager a chance to make it better. They will just have enough, say their goodbyes, and be gone forever

W. Edwards Deming, who taught the Japanese automakers the management approach that enabled them to eat the Big Three's lunch, stated that 85% of all problems in a business are management's fault. Either there was something management failed to do, or there was something management should not have done.

Was just promoted to team lead and inherited two employees. One of which has been passed off like a hot potato because no one could make decisions about her consistent under performance (as in actually never hitting targets). Now I’m in the role and i have one employee 6 months in that doesn’t even do the bare minimum, and another highly productive employee that picks up the slack who I try to fight for. I have done this persons role and I believe i know the reasons why they aren’t succeeding, and it’s just simply not a good fit. In any way. Making the co worker want to leave, and now I actually look bad because I’m having trouble completing all my other projects. Meanwhile I’ve worked til 8pm all week :/

If one is not a good fit, then get rid of them! Transfer them to a better-suited dept, somehow find some time to help them improve their skills, or start the documentation process. There's no sense sacrificing the strong for the weak.

Yup! Constantly trying to get more work out of work people and especially when we’re exceeding expectations by 30% backed up by daily spreadsheet percentages. The message that sends is this….. you don’t work hard enough! And that is infuriating, especially when you have CEO’s making 1 million or 20 million for attending meetings all day long which isn’t hard work. I’m sorry but NO ONE is worth a million dollars a year or anywhere near that

Talk about how managers work the one good person they have to the point of exhaustion and don’t discipline the other members of the team who are goofing off. And then let’s talk about gender: just because I am the only woman on the team do not expect me to clean the mess the men made in the office.
