Had this problem before. When I started to take an honest look at the department\business I am in charge of, I had to change my approach. In order for things to get better, I had to be more active and connected. And that meant setting boundaries, making team members more accountable for daily business tasks, and embracing conflict.

Wow, this was well explained. I was the “nice” manager instead of a “good” manager with one employee and I prioritized my image instead of being direct and honest. Thank you for this video

6:02 Great reminder to have some self-respect! The real struggle is to keep finding value you can bring to the table while being treated like an underdog all the time.

People try to take advantage and don’t respect me because the supervisor before me let them do whatever they wanted.

Manager to manager. We have uppers we report to whether it’s a Director or VP, etc. I want everyone to succeed and am not someone to PIP an employee on the fly. We are doing great and I changed functions recently and those that reported to me wanted to follow. New manager requires tasks lists with time to complete a task (right…very accurate without observing ), daily where are we calls, etc. No one likes it, no one. This is a F 100 company. We have had the best which I think is because we have the nicest.

I just saw this video now, and whats interesting, 2 weeks ago I heard on the radio that people who are too friendly and too nice do NOT get picked to be promoted

@LeadershipwithMike I know 😉 and I also learned in the last couple of years that I don't need to be a nice manager but a good one who also wants to have a successful team to work with
