About the ,,yellow flowers". They look beautiful, but behind these fields is actually much more controversy than expected.

Fun fact Slovak is so simmular that it is mutually understandable. We have all kinds of movies and music etc in Czech. When games come here and are translated, they have Czech Subs. Lost of Czechs and Slovaks still see each others as brothers/sisters.

Just to clarify with the history - for those watching - CZ is a country that historically existed as "Lands of the Czech Crown", a land and later kingdom that was independent or semi-independent for centuries, since the 7th century, actually. It was just the time between 1620s and 1910s (Before 1620s, Prague was for a long time capitol city of the Holy Roman Empire) when the Austrian Empire tried to integrate it so hard it pretty much backfired and Czechs pushed for independence instead.

" Austrian Empire tried to integrate it so hard it pretty much backfired and Czechs pushed for independence instead." Hah. Learn your history. People were pretty happy in Austro-Hungarian Empire and they didn't mind integrating until the end of 19th century when Nationalism went popular in Europe.

Choosing your career during high school is not that detrimental to your future career as it may sound from his description. I chose one, went to university and studied something totally different and now I do neither of those :)

Also ,,domečky" (I'd call them more like řadové domy)and paneláky are usually in bigger cities. But in villages or smaller towns there are also just normal houses. And each house is different size and colore because they were build invidually .
@Killerean
@Killerean 5 жыл бұрын
Panel houses have been actually invented in Czechia (I think in the fifties) and the very first panel house ever built still stands today. It was an experiment nobody have ever expected to succeed. Engineers and architects were making fun of the project, predicting it to fall like house of cards. However, after the first one was built - fast, modular and convenient, and didn't fall, the manufacturing have exploded. For following forty years these buildings have become the defining piece of communism. Housing built quick, affordable, ready to take in masses. It was the go-to design for every town in need of housing. And need there was. Communists have been dead locked on growing the population and showing the west how it's done. And so thousands upon thousands of these grey atrocities have been built. Paradoxically, we are in need of similar fast, cheap housing today, but there was no successor to the original project. With the fall of communism, panel house have become a thing of the past. The DIY nature of Czechs is also a legacy of communism. During the times of communism, there was shortage of literally everything. And if you needed something, you had to either make it, or use a series of contacts to get what you want through theft. More or less it worked so that you'd steal something at the factory where you work. That you will take home, and if you were lucky, you'd exchange it directly with a friend working in different factory or a warehouse for the thing you wanted. If not, your friend will exchange that thing further for other things and the chain will continue until a desired object was found and obtained.

Svíčková is tenderloin (beef), not pork. And the sauce is with cream. The full name of the food is Svíčková na smetaně = "tenderloin on cream".

The building you mention as a museum - The National Monument in Prague - was actually built as a burial / memorial place for WW1 "legionnaires", who fought for independent Czechoslovakia and against the Central Powers (and the russian communists, too).

Everything in this video is so true, I am impressed! Very good point about why Czechs don't trust organizations and unions because of our sad history - unfortunately, many polititians are now using this distrust for their own profit, as it's very easy to convince people that some current organizations - like the EU - again just want to use us, and let us down...
