My American sister has lived in France for the last 20+ years, now retired and loves every second of it. She was in Cote D' Azur and worked as a teacher for 18 of those years, and more recently moved to Arles. She was fluent before she left over 20 years ago and now her French is nearly native level. I visited recently, walked the streets of Arles alone at night and felt very safe and loved the environment but I could see I would be very alone living there until I learned French. But I feel very alone in the USA and appreciate the fact the French people did NOT elect Pen and it seems in majority, the French are better educated than Americans and less dead inside. The food was to die for, the nature fantastic everywhere, the architecture amazing...and since I am alone here in the states, might as well be alone in France where I can eat better and see beautiful things...instead of strip malls that all have the same Chili's and Red Lobster restaurants. Don't worry, not all disenfranchised Americans will move to France and I'm not sure where I will end up myself. Where ever Americans go after this bizarre election, I hope they leave the stereotype of stupid, selfish and boisterous behind. I will, and respect and adore whatever European country welcomes us as expats. Thanks for this video to help me think about where I might land for my retirement.

I have been lucky to visit France about 15+ times starting in 1972 as part of a student exchange (15yo) after 3 years French language classes. Mostly Paris, Toulouse, Nice, Marseille and Corsica. J'aime la France! However, had to stop going about 10 years back because of everything you describe including massive influx of foriegners who have changed the whole nature in some areas. Painfully to us France has lost it's charm. It does hurt because good leadership would still have it the most Special to visit.

In many ways (and in many ways NOT), France is like a mini-USA geographically.

As french who traveled a lot, i would say that people have a negative views toward money and most of them think that you should provide service freely (they don't understand that for a service you have to pay)

Typically French indeed.

I have lived in and visited France. I have always found the people pleasant and patient. My French is weak from disuse but the folks in France were always kind and patient. And many spoke English or tried to speak English. All in all I always enjoy being in France. And the food, cuisine de bonne femme, oh boy!

France was magnificent. I hitched around there in my early twenties, when I spoke fluent French. Outside the big cities, especially Paris, it still might be great although I have not been there - apart from its airports - since 1995.

It has changed A LOT since 1995.

France could be a good destination for retired people. There are tons of retired Brits in my region. But generally speaking i would avoid it, if you are still in the job market. They are very fussy here, even if you just applied for basic jobs, and your carrer growth can be very slow or even nonexistant.

2:00 40 % cheaper than Canada or the USA ? Hum.. I doubt so. Maybe a bit ' cheaper ' than usual since EUR goes down a bit against USD but nothing like -40 % IMHO.

@@ETfrogable he is probably just comparing wages to living costs. It is probably close to 1/3 cheaper than Canada, which has one of the worst cost of living and housing crises on earth

Thanks Kublai. M'y opinion IS différent. France seems as risky as Nigeria. It's not. American citizen making 100k+ a year will Pay american tax. No problem. Cost of living lower. Little town around 50k in habitants are charming an safers. Healthy country : food, Museum, air quality, beaches, Mountains, healh Care costs still now,... Good opportunity for retired people with more than 100k incomes a year. Waiting for your next vidéo.

The negative point of France is also the mentality. Lots of closed-minded people with a communist mentality. Too bad, it was an amazing country but it's over.

If you are from the United States looking for a European lifestyle, don't go to France! Go to Eastern Europe. Or even in Spain or Italy, which remain quite safe and cheaper than France.

And are moving there Right now they think germanic countries, french countries, england, italy is the best countries of europe. So they move there They avoided spain thinking its a poor eu country like greece that ressemble poor latin america But the words that spain is good country is spreading. Soon it wont be a good secret gem only some people know
