I know you don’t want unsolicited advice. But I’m thinking maybe trying out a more traditional job for awhile with vlogging on the side might bring stability, routine, and a new perspective on life 😊

I am little bit older than you (31), so I remember very well the utter CHAOS of my 20s and I also have a few more years of experience at being on the planet lol One useful thing I have learnt (and it might not apply to you, but you never know!) is that a very important characteristic of my ideal job, whic I could have never guessed before starting to work, is the importance of knowing what you dislike. Yes, it's great to know what you enjoy, but assuming you don't have one dream career (e.g. wanting to be a doctor) there might be several jobs that you enjoy. For me, it has been very important to understand what I cannot stand, what lowers my quality of life and doesn't help with my mental health. For example, I cannot deal with a job where I am the only person in charge of "starting the business" in the morning, something I learned super well working as a shop assistant. The anxiety of being late/not hearing my alarm when I had the morning shift etc and consequently not opening the shop made so anxious I couldn't sleep. So when moving forward to other jobs, I made sure that was something I paid attention to. I also get exhausted by daily human interactions, so working for home is really good for me. I am also not good at setting my own deadlines and managing time, and I have lots of deadlines set up by my boss at my current job which is super helpful. Small things, but overall removing those little sources of anxiety truly improved my working life. I guess it's something you could try and apply to your current job(s) or to consider for a career shift. Or, as someone suggested, mix and match with a very different job to balance it out? I am sure things will slowly come together and you'll find your balance ❤ I have a lot of admiration for people who share their experiences and opinions online, I definitely couldn't do that! Sending lots of love

I just hope you're doing ok. You seem a bit anxious/breathy when talking. Switching Jobs, feeling uninspired, switching careers - all of that is so normal, especially in your mid/late 20s. We are all in the same boat. No one has it figured out :) I think you're doing great.

Here unsolicited advice: I think that you are not your performance nor your persona on social media. You are not your work!!. And as a long time viewer i can say that it shows that you are so intelligent, talented, creative, loving person but also a person who thrives in structure and routine and goals, so maybe you need to find a job that gives you that exactly, and from that stable and comfortable place, start sharing and enjoying the social media life again 😊😊 ( job or an activity that give you stable income)

do you ever see yourself working in cancer research?... what do you see your job being in 20 years from now? if the worse comes to the worst, where social media is no longer able to be your job, what job do you see yourself doing?

I suppose I’m curious about what the direction of the channel is going to be going forward? Maybe you don’t know and that’s OK too. If the views/numbers stay as they are, will you think about a different job offline? You’re at this crossroads in life that a lot of student productivity vloggers eventually come to so I’m interested in what direction you are hoping to go in. I’m sure you’ll do well in whatever avenue you decide to pursue.

You're talking about financial freedom, but yet you still live at home with your parents, which gives you a safety net and the opportunity to save money easily. If you were renting and having to pay out over 1-2K a month just for rent, I don't think you'd feel the same way. Also, from seeing your home and the surrounding area, it's clear to see that your family has money, so that definitely helps too.

Holly, I think you are struggling/anxious because you don’t have a routine like job. I am similair to you and it drives me crazy when my days aren’t centered around something solid, because then I feel like there is no limit and I end up overworking, whereas in a, for example, 9-5, you work for 8 hours and you’re done and then you know you can relax, and you don’t end up overworking. Maybe consider setting limits to work, and so you will have set out times to relax, then it won’t all feel so muddled up and cause anxiety. Some people like no routine and couldn’t stand a “9-5”, but maybe it’ll be better for you :)
@AlwynRainMystic
@AlwynRainMystic 7 ай бұрын
did people get anxious in the stoneage because they didn't have a 9-5? 9-5 jobs aren't natural, the system that we are enslaved to isnt' natural. we can have things to keep us interested and passionate without a 9=5, youre just conditioned by the system. wild animals don't get anxious because they aren't sitting in an office supporting capitalism for 3/4s of their lives. what kind of life is that? waking up, working 9-5 then coming home and being too tired to do anything else. people in these comments are just so mad at holly for not conforming to the corporate capitalist machine that destroys our souls. instead she wants to work for herself and whenever she wants so she cant spend her time doing things she enjoys with people she loves. its no wonder most people are conformist sheep these days with the amount of pressure to conform that is piled onto someone who is not doing the same as everyone else, until they eventually give in and conform too. what a sad world.

Holly, I am sure that there are laboratory jobs which you can do which specialize in cancer research. Will you ever be interested in working in Immunocare because they do talk about new treatments in trying to treat and cure different types of cancers in more advanced stages? I do not believe that you need a PhD for that position. Holly, I wish you, Angelo, your sister Emily and her boyfriend, Matthew, your parents, and grandparents a very Happy New Year.

Respectfully that's nearly impossible with just a bachelors + masters. Academics is so brutally competitive, so for someone who has been "out" of academia in the way Holly has (no recent experience/research) it's so unlikely unless she begins (and potentially not until she completes) a PhD

I am in awe of how much of your life you have been sharing, I could never deal with that kind of scrutiny. I really hope you can free yourself from other peoples’ expectations and create a life that suits your personality and your values and that makes you happy. Genuinely, I feel like hardly anyone has figured out what exactly they want from life 🤷🏻‍♀️ Keep doing you! ❤️

I feel like the algorithm rewards making videos on the exact same topic over and over again. I love channels like your where there's a good variety. I feel a sense of loss when channels I love give into their content traps and make the same 'variations on a theme' videos all the time. But then they do really well...

It's quite unfair to label constructive criticisms as the darkest part of socmed / trolls / hate. Like what do you expect? You exposed your life to this platform, yet you only wanted all "toxic positivity" to read? You're not perfect, girl. Learn to listen and accept. You don't like the pressure, yet you keep on vlogging frequently. Like it's kind of common sense to give yourself a break if it's too overwhelming. You're sick. If socmed is too much, quit. You've got a bachelor's degree and other opportunities anyway. There's more to life, Holly Gabrielle.

She has no idea what actual hate or trolling looks like. That would be people calling you ugly and useless etc. I've never seen a comment here saying that sort of stuff to her. Most people are giving her constructive criticism, and she often asks for feedback, and then goes the other way and gets offended when people actually give her feedback. It's massively childish.

Hello Holly! I very much appreciate the video and the vulnerability. I can definitely relate to the finacial instability that comes with being self-employed. I am self-employed myself (still new to me though) and struggle with weighing the freedom to work "whenever" I want to against the volatility in my income. I'd love to hear more from you about financial matters, e.g. how you budget and save as a freelancer!

Holly, I know you said you weren't religious, but when you said you still feel like something is missing, I felt like inviting you to consider that what you're missing in your life could be purpose and meaning. That is why I urge you to consider the words of Christ. I invite you to read about him in the gospel of John, Mark, Luke and Matthew.
