I am working for a dog rescue organisation in Germany and am so pleased that you have thought this through! Also I wanted to quickly say, that in these corona times 50% more people decide to get a dog just because they are at home all the time and didn’t really knew how much time and effort having a dog takes. And so they give up (sometimes after having the dog 1 day) and give him to an animal shelter-.- So my point is, that you could maybe spread some awareness around the topic of corona and dogs, cause people really should commit to a dog and the min. 15 years of having kind of a child, also after lockdown etc. Much love 💕

We have always had doxie’s growing up, my mom and dad recently had 4~ Sassy, Sadie, Bama & Bailey. They still have Bama & Bailey, Bama has saved my moms life twice. She had passed out from her sugar level severely dropping and the other from being severely dehydrated. Bama ran to my dad in the den and barked and ran up and down the hall barking telling him something was wrong. They truly are the best dogs and they become almost human on how they love their owners so much. ❤️

Ali, your example about not assuming based on a version of events that you see is so true. I had a situation like this happen to me that ended up getting me fired from a job in my 20s. But ever since then I’ve always tried to look at situations from different angles and not make harsh/hasty judgments on things. On another note, how’s Porter doing with the new kitchen project? Is he like wait a minute, what happened to my room? 😂

I got a cat from a shelter who, I was told, was totally fine, just had a mild gingivitis going on, probably due to stress. As it turns out, he has stomatitis (autoimmune disease attacking his teeth) and had to have a tooth removed, with more coming in the future. Now I brush his teeth every day (won’t help much) and save money for the next operation. I would not trade him for anything or anyone, but I totally get why you went with the breeder. Porter is so freakin’ cute, btw 😊

Porter is adorable! Dogs love doing zoomies on carpet because of the great traction. Same thing happened with my hubby - he didn’t want to be tied down with a dog and now he doesn’t want to travel unless we can take our Yorkies with us.wait a year before getting another dog - you develop a much different relationship if you get two puppies together as the pups form the close bond with each other rather than with you.

The way they went about it I think was great. It’s not like they bought it from a puppy mill which I assume is what you picture when you hear the word breeder. It’s a very regulated business to ensure rules are being followed for the health and welfare of the animals, and the consumer knows what they are purchasing. Realistically you would want the whole business of purchasing pets to be regulated with very little dogs to adopt. As adoptive dogs are the ones that are coming from unregulated places and that’s how you end up with so many needing homes. If it’s regulated and registered and producing only enough to satiate the market, then it’s a better way to do it... my opinion (not a pet owner, but contemplated owning a cat in the future)

A lot of people adopt pets from shelters in the UK, to the point that animals are now being imported from various European countries to be adopted here. Adoption is not the right thing for everyone. For example, I would not be allowed to adopt as we do not have a garden. I bought my dogs from breeders and they are all walked several times a day, and are perfectly healthy and well looked after, despite no garden to just throw them out into......As Ali said - it's all about perceptions.

I have two standard poodles. Coco was my first dog in my life. I wanted a very intelligent dog who would get along with my cat and African grey. My husband didn’t want another dog nor a female but Coco picked me at the pet shop. She bonded to both of us and is inseparable from my husband. He stole my first dog right from me❤. I had to get another. I hunted all over for another female poodle. Found a breeder two states away. We took Coco to help make that life choice. Coco picked Ginger Bear and they are bonded . They are always together. Coco is 11 now and Ginger is 8. They are brilliant! Oh they are both bonded to my husband. So much for not wanting a dog. He loves them so much and takes them to the beach every day. They are show stoppers for sure.

You are both super emotionally intelligent and aware. I think this is the number one asset in creating a nurturing environment, and a proper home for all inhabitants. I wish more people functioned like this both in relation to children and pets and partners, and the the whole world actually. I know people with dogs who leave them home alone most of the time, I find this unbearably cruel but it is quite culturally normal.

So much that when the dog goes for his last wee at night as soon as the dog comes back inside the cat runs on her own directly in the laundry room and the dog follows. From my whole life of having a dog and a cat I’ve learned what works best for me and my family. I can sleep great at night and so do the animals. As soon as I get up I,open the door and the dog knows it is wee time outdoor. The cat litter box is in the laundry room as well.
