When we adopted our 16 year old Pomeranian, he was clearly going downhill. We just wanted to give him a peaceful life for his final days. With dietary changes, love, and a homestead to enjoy, he has made it to 22! He acts like a puppy again.

Like how you talk about dogs as if they are dogs, you don't make little humans of them, that makes the relationship between you and your dogs more natural. Love that.

I really appreciate when pet owners train their children & pets how to interact together, while respecting each other. It’s SO IMPORTANT! I grew up with lots of animals & didn’t realize until adulthood how many people really don’t understand the importance of respecting animals.

I’m so happy you teach your children how to behave around animals. The statement you made about how dogs no matter how much you teach them, could rip your child’s face off. This is so very true and you are definitely protecting your children and your animals in the best way possible while still loving them and allowing them them to grow up,safely together!

I watch regularly about 3-4 channels as time permits- more on down days, sick days etc... so many different types & topics- but yours is the MOST down to earth, entertaining, most influential on my mood and inspiration, and best eye candy- so much to see, so many beautiful aspects from the obvious good looking humans, animals, home projects, and land. Seriously- I share you to so many at least weekly I am recommending you! So happy you are successful & I’m proud to do my little support to keeping this family sustainable with parents at home doing the hard work! Love and many blessings.

@@samrob167 Mine are really easy going, mostly. I do have one that doesn't like to be left but I generally take her most places with me, if I can. I rescued her when she was a puppy and I think her experiences after birth definitely shaped her personality. She is extremely protective of us and loves with everything she has. Jace, my oldest is an angel, so well behaved and smart. The puppies definitely inherited his nature so I think that makes a difference.

That was a super long outro, I was waiting for some secret content or something! 🤣 I would love to see a video on your cats, though I know you said you're working on that. I am a cat person through and through, but we got a Schnoodle in November, and the family just loves her! I almost want another dog some days, but having just one (with a moderately sized backyard) is a lot of work. If I had 10 acres, I would also own a whole pack of dogs! Love these types of videos, btw. ♥

We have 13 dogs. Our only problem is our place is too small. They are crazy at times. Pomskies are insane. Lots of energy. Our oldest is 11 and youngest is 16 weeks. Some challenges at times when they get along. COVID didn't help the anxiety issues with some. Separation anxiety seems to be an issue for one. My daughter has ADHD and ASD but it helps to show her how to treat animals. She arrived from China never seeing a dog We had four then. Lost one while we went to China to being my daughter home. Yes, it's a full time job. Are they all outside trained? Yes, every night around 3-5a our puppy wakes up. 😳😴 Some of our dogs travel with us. So much fun.

I have a pack too, 4 Labradors and 1 Siberian Husky plus fosters or dogsitting pups. I think the main thing to maintaining a number of dogs is that they all get along well with each other, any other animals in the home, and the people. One difficult dog, or dog that causes conflict in the pack can make everyone crazy. Building in consistent routines help things like feeding. Always feed the same dog in the same spot in the same order every single time. Giving each dog their favorite activity or cuddle time with me to make sure they all feel loved and special, just like kids. Our latest adoption is a 1 yr old Lab, who has been a bit needy both in training and love, so I am making sure to give attention to our other dogs so they don't feel left out. Mostly, it's good though and I think the dogs appreciate having each other to play and snuggle with.

We started with 1 dog, 1 cat ( indoor) ,2 horses and a barn cat and ended up with 5 dogs, several outdoor cats, 5 horse( plus we boarded between 4- 8 at any given time) chickens, Guinea hens and our neighbors goat liked to hang out several days a week.

I think when you have a platform it is important to encourage responsible pet ownership. This being not only how you take care of your animals but where you get them. If you aren’t going to buy from a responsible breeder, you really should adopt. Backyard breeding is rampant in this country. Don’t pay greeders for designer mixes. Purchase from breeders conducting all of the recommended health and genetic testing and who work with their animals to achieve titles. If you aren’t doing that, you are supporting pet over population buy lining the pockets of irresponsible breeders. Adopt or shop responsibly.

If i had one to tip about having a dog in the house, it would be to not let the dog sleep)stay on the sofa/bed. My dog had a urinating problem when she got older, she had no control over her blatter. Than we decided to always keep her on the floor. It was not nice for her because she was so used being with us on the sofa/bed. If we learned her this when she was a puppy, it wouldn't be hard for her at all

We have six weimeraners. We breed with them and kept two from our last litter. The one female has a leaking heart valve and I couldn't just pawn her off on someone else and the male was just too cute to let go LOL. They are Loki (our male, 3), Daisy (mom of the last litter, 7), Freya (has not had a litter yet, 2), Hella (the youngest, also still a puppy at 10 months old) and then the pups Liv and Odin, three and a half months old. I love this breed and probably won't buy another type, but never say never. They are city dogs still getting used to all our farm animals 🤣. We moved a year ago and although they LOVE all the space on the farm, they still need to adjust to the animals.

I have trouble when I see children mistreat or be mean to animals but when the animal/dog nips they get in trouble. So many dogs are being taken to humane society since Covid has “ended”. It is so sad and maddening that people would do this.

We have a pack of yorkies (3). They are stubborn! If they go out and do their business in the middle of of night, you better remember to give them their treat! My female yorkie Jax will stand by the door and not come to bed until you return and fish in the treat jar for her reward. She has a sense of fair play. She is also the biggest yorkie in Michigan. At least that’s the Green family option, as she weighs in at about ten pounds. You have a goat that thinks she is a dog … well my dog thinks she is a goat! She will eat the weirdest stuff. If you are breaking up dry pasta and some ends up on the floor, Jax will go around retrieving/snacking on it! She would sell you out for one bite on bologna or bacon. Food for her is more serious then loyalty. Our youngest yorkie “Blue” is 3 pounds soaking wet, with the heart of a Lion. She is so sweet that there are times I think I’m ruining her. Right now I have her trained to think that if Jax goes potty she (Blue) gets a treat. She is still a puppy and hasn’t got the whole potty training thing down (and why would she with me slipping her treats just because I can’t stand to watch her look at me with that little hairy face when Jax gets a treat for going potty). Our third yorkie “pippin” is also about three pounds but she is the Stella of our pack. She is thirteen and starting to fall apart. She favors my 86 year old father and his reward for being her favorite is that he gets to carry her around. She will stand in front of my dad and bark until he does what she wants. Dad has always had hunting dogs as he hunts and fishes. The idea of a yorkie running his life is just a crack up! We all (5 kids in my family) refer to Pippin as “dad’s hunting dog”. He (dad) is often found shuffling around with Pippin under an arm mumbling “you’re not the boss of me”. We also have two female bangle cats that are the weirdest things. They love water so I often share the shower with one or both of them. They also have a routine. Every day they make their rounds. First stopping to flip all the pop bottles out of the bin. Then they go from one (of 3) bathrooms knocking stuff in the sinks? If you don’t remember to put the tp on its holder they push that in the sink to get dripped on. They both dip their paws in the water dishes and drink off their paws. They play in the water dishes they don’t drink out of them. For a while Blue imitated them and would splash water all over. She would get practically in the water dish as she is so small. Our cats have ten pounds on Blue but she spends her day trying to ambush the cats. They just humor her. Pets make life so fun!

Many good points but please don't be wooed by videos like this into growing your pack without a LOT of thought because dogs can be a LOT of work and a LOT of money. I did foster/rescue/rehab for several years. I have seven permanent, now senior pups who are 40-80 lbs and who get along well. Some of my favorite things are to see them sleeping peacefully or playing together. There's no foolproof recipe for adding dogs. Some of my fosters were super easy, and some never became a part of my pack - one was unsuccessful even after 3.5 years. If a dog cannot be incorporated into your pack, be prepared to rotate dogs for as long as it takes to get that dog in an APPROPRIATE home. One puppy came with issues which we worked thru. She loved being a part of the pack. Then she started attacking dogs who got too excited even though they were not near her. Luckily, another foster stepped up to take her. Acquiring a dog means caring for it IN FULL for its ENTIRE life so be prepared for that level of commitment. My advice for humans who want to add a dog is to not rush introductions. Imagine if you were dropped off by aliens - would you immediately be trusting and want to be friends? Nope - so don't expect your dog to respond that way. Also, a new dog will not understand you or the household rules and routines. Give them time and help them learn the CONSISTENT rules and routines. Finally, dogs do not need to be on furniture. You'll save yourself a lot of time and money by keeping human-only furniture. (Your friends will appreciate it too.) In case the excess hair and dirt doesn't sway you, keep in mind that a dog can brush against poisonous plants then deposit that invisible oil on your furniture causing you to break out over and over and ... Booo.

I know you're property isn’t entirely fenced off (at least where the dogs can go), but have you considered fencing off a part where you could put in a dog door for them to go in and out on their own? One of those ones that has the chip thing you put on their collars so it only opens for your pups? I mean you probably have thought about it but I am interested in your thoughts

I know it hard with the internet but how do you get your kids to respect pets. I’ve been trying to teach my son since he was born. He is now three and has no interest in be affectionate to a dog. We are trying to teach him dogs are family and they have feelings. I never knew it would be so hard having dogs and kids together.

The big dogs need to be brushed daily with the undercoat brush. Also a good bonding for humans and animals.

With all the dogs you have and the amount of 💩 picking you must have to do I really really highly recommend swapping them into a raw diet. Their poo is less and hard and dry so much easier to collect. Since changing my dogs over we’ve had less to clean up and it’s so dry, we haven’t had many “wet” 💩. There’s so many other amazing benefits for the dogs

While you teach your child to respect dogs it is also important to teach your dog that you are the head of pact and the children are over them also.

We live on 20 acres and there is a silly Bi-law that says we can only have 3 dogs. I get that in town but really when you have property that seems dumb to me.

Our 6 month old lab puppy refuses to eat his food. Would love to know more details on what you feed them from Open Farm. Do you do a certain recipe of dry food with broth and freeze dried food?

I’m curious…do y’all get your dogs’ teeth cleaned with any regularity? That’s a HUGE cost that people accustomed to large-breed dogs may not expect when they add a small breed to the pack! When our kids were growing up, we had various retrievers as pets (a Chessie and 2 Labs, all 80-95 lbs as adults, and all living 12-14 years). After losing our Black Lab, and with our boys all in college, DH and I chose to switch to small dogs: an Emperial Shih Tzu (11 lbs as an adult) and a little Maltese-Chi rescue who has never gotten above 3.5 lbs. We fed our retrievers dry food only, nothing soggy and no “people food,” on the advice of my Veterinarian dad. It kept their teeth in such good shape that we only had to have them surgically cleaned once or twice each over their lifetimes. Oh my gosh, not the case with our small dogs! I even brush their teeth myself several times a week, and they still need to have them professionally done almost annually. And even at that, bad teeth have had to be removed during a cleaning. I’m sharing because it’s just one more thing to keep in mind when counting up the costs of adding a dog to the family. To me, they’re worth every penny spent, mind you! We love our fur babies! Just saying that anyone considering a dog needs to realize that there are certain responsibilities that come with it … not only love, not only neutering, not only good food, water, protection, toys, time, and exercise, but also proper, regular medical care. Our lesson with smaller breeds has been that the smaller the size, the bigger the dentistry bills. But it’s necessary. Bad teeth cause them excruciating pain - they’ll stop eating altogether! -and related infections can literally cause death. Just a cost to consider. The last surgical cleaning for our 2 was last September … it totaled $1,250.00, and September is right around the corner again.

Yes, many small breeds have awful teeth. We have a 14-year-old chihuahua, and his teeth have been awful for years. We have them cleaned once a year. Usually extractions are needed. This year two molars removed and one was abcessed. Along with one vaccination, heartworm test and meds...$929.00. We used to have lots of pets, but I don't want the expense anymore!

Its a bit ironic, but more equals less time you have to spend with each dog. A single dog needs you to play with them, hive them dog friends. This does not apply to cats though. Kids if you can, need another kid to play with. Too many kids can make it hard as well. But just having a buddy close in age makes play time so much easier.
