Thanks Jimmy Oaks for send me to this awesome fab channel!!

Great insight to the actual thoughts of a fabricator. Pie cuts do look good, but once you explain the way they work, i see way they are so popular. Thanks Justin for the video.

I was doing intercooler tubing on my coworkers supra and we needed tight bends so I had to learn how to do piecuts! I actually enjoyed using them

My first go at a custom manifold was for a blown Blackbird engine, box of mandrels and it took me a week. I wish I knew you could buy pie cuts already cut. Brilliant post thanks

Awesome video. I'm not in the automotive world so it's cool to get a little insight into things like pie cuts and how/when they're used.

Actually super informitive makes a ton of sense thanks man that bend on jimmy's down pipe is crazy and i dont think you could have done that with a couple of 90 degree manderal bends with out cutting it in to pie cuts anyways

Super informative! I've always wondered what the big hype was about them. Always thought they were purely aesthetic! Thanks for posting 🤘

Aesthetically displeasing maybe

Good rundown I tried out of mandrel bends but the fit up for welding was terrible Will be doing pie cut for next tight exhaust Job👍

That was hella informative! nice video! and God the guys in CT are lucky to have someone that does beautiful welds like that

Thank you for breaking this down very simply. what are some good tools to use to measure the angles of pipes or angles under the car?

Now i know the pros and cons will deffinitely use piecuts cheers mate!

Your example of when, where and why to use pie cuts makes perfect sense. What i don't understand is why some use them where they're 100% not required and a mandrel bend would suffice. IMO Pie cuts look terrible, but they certainly have their place.

Have you ran into melting issues welding super close to your purge plugs?

Have you put them on a flow bench verses mandrel bends.?

Asthetics. But mostly for small radius / odd bends ,you can't get from a mandrel or rotary draw

100% agree, this is where being a cheap ass costs you more money at the end. Time above all else is money, and you're not charging 60 labor hours for a catback while you're cutting 20 different pie cuts off of mandrels. Spend the money, utilize pie cuts properly and send it off.

In all honesty I'm really torn on the way I feel about pie cut exhausts. Seems many people like the way they look but I feel they look like dryer vent hose. Thus I always grind and polish my pipes smooth. Also maybe I'm just a shitty welder but there always seems to be a off weld or an occlusion I'd just rather get rid of. By the way at like 6$ a pie, who the hell actually buys these. Make yourself a jig and you can knock off 150 pies in about 2 hours including deburing Also who needs prepolished pies. It's a joy to polish your pipe when all done and said.

I still prefer the 90° and cut them than those pointy pie cuts🤷♂️ I dont get these strange humps. Im not sure how you cut them tho

Any advice or tips for tig welding? Im working on my degree and its hard man lol
@beckyromineciy54103 жыл бұрын
Always take a practice pass rod and all. And keep it tight. Try dipping from the side. That’s all I got. The welding just takes practice. Fit up takes years.
@axa.axa.2 жыл бұрын
Tip. High frequency is your friend. Also I don't use filler rod and also sand all my pipes smooth.

With piecuts you use more argon gas right? My question is how much is argon? But I'm sure it's worth the extra $$
@MorFabIndustries4 жыл бұрын
It uses about 5 times more than mandrel bends just because of the amount of weld and the time spent purging. Argon isn't too bad cost wise.
@devious7624 жыл бұрын
David floener a 250 bottle for me is around 110 I’ve heard it’s all the way down to 90 for some but backpurging doesn’t waste any gas really like he said it’s all in the welding that the gas is wasted
