I suspect we may see another bump in the fall, though not nearly as large. In the past, the release of anniversary sets have drawn media attention and interest. Depending on Pokemon's plan for the 25th anniversary set, we may see that happen again.

@@pokemon_classics AGREED. But yeah I thinks calm down a bit, but that's a good thing will give a nice calm for collectors to try and slow down and enjoy some modern or other cheaper cards that are just enjoyable (like shinies, EXs, delta species and tag teams) (would've included legends but those are worth a bit more than the other card types mentioned)
@toadtavern3 жыл бұрын
Seems to me that when collectors get back to buying we’ll see more stabilization. The collectors know more about the lore/backstory, what was playable, what is popular or iconic, what had good/bad print quality, and what is rare or desired within those constraints. Given that many collectors were on the sidelines I don’t think it’s a good idea to include all the folks with a short term investor mentality as being synonymous with ‘interest in the hobby’. What I’m suggesting is that we want the collectors back in, and engaged. They will more accurately set the prices so everyone can enjoy a strong, long-lasting hobby.

That's the way it's gone the last 10 years, so it's entirely possible. I think some cards will definitely be more saturated, but I also think demand will continue to grow over time as more generations of collectors entire/mature in the hobby.

If you are investing to make money then there are easier, faster and more secure ways to so that. You buy a card for £50 and sell it five years later for £300 and looks like a big profit, but when you consider it this way; Over the five years your investment has earned you £250, or £50 a year, which is about £1 a week. Doesn't look as good now does it? Also, the card may go down in value if you are unlucky and yoi acyually lose money. Only buy if you enjoy the card(s) otherwise you are a scalper or a gambler, not an invester.

@turbo86283 жыл бұрын
@@calebb7012 as of right now, you are 100% correct, but peaks and dips happen in all markets, especially non-essesntials and pokemon has had some volatile ones. I am sure there are tonnes of people sat on product waiting to make thousands in a couple of years and not realising they are not the only ones doing it. Pokemon will peak again, but I think a lot of people will be settling for a loss when it does cos this last year or two has been crazy. Psa prices show just how crazy it has been.

AT 10:42 There is a thing i have to disagree though. Just because cards that are reaching record high prices that doesnt mean that it is organic at all there are investors putting their money on it assuming it will go even higher than that or find anotehr sucker to sell it to. If there is no real buyers that are actually interest in it then it will become what we are a "hot potatoes game" where the last one who bought that product or card loses money and will force to undersell like what we are seeing with the lots of cards right now. Edit: or even money laundering or shell bidding involved also who can say that an actual organic buy wont regret buying it at a stupid high price and not sell it back.
@pokemon_classics3 жыл бұрын
That's a fair point; however, there are numerous cards that are still holding strong or appreciating. Many of these cards are niche areas that are generally more appealing to established collectors rather than the "stonks" cards that have been targeted by outsiders. You are absolutely right though, this is just my observation.

Crypto might be the most influential. There is a very good theory that when some kind of high end collectible gets attention (in this case 1st ed. Charizard for example) lower tier players start to grind with lesser cards trying to achieve something like 1st editions on very high end. In that cycle people start to _speculate_ with not so scarce cards creating demand. Ultimately not achieving that level and probably they need to sell in some point to pay leverage.
@pokemon_classics3 жыл бұрын
I could see this playing a small role in the market, especially when the starting point for a card is artificially scarce, the price goes up, and then people react by grading them hand-over-fist. A lot of cards are experiencing that right now.
@toadtavern3 жыл бұрын
Good thoughts here, and closer to what I was going for with my other comment. When strange cards get artificially hyped it becomes a problem. A cool looking card or character is just one of multiple factors playing into price, but when the market is skewed towards hype and investors the prices get out of whack with what a true collector would find reasonable or warranted.

Or maybe just to get stonks and have money then buy at super dip.. Easy gain money and collection
@pokemon_classics3 жыл бұрын
That can be a risky move if you're a collector though. If the cards don't dip enough to offset fees and taxes, you've lost money. Also, for many collectors (like myself), some of the cards are so scarce that once sold, you may never have the opportunity to own it again.
@ThatsSoGiorgio3 жыл бұрын
@@pokemon_classics exactly. So many cards are sitting in sealed collections and may never see the light of day or circulation. I personally don’t keep any product sealed. I absolutely hate that people are keeping jungle sets for so pricey but it does keep the value of those base sets that much higher and as a collector you not only want to have what’s valuable in the market but also what’s valuable to you too. I only have one Vmax Shiny Charizard and if I pull a second one then I’ll keep the higher grade and sell the lower grade but I would never sell any card I only have one copy of. (Unless it means something more to another collector because we should help each other out when it comes to it)
