I think his experience with Geoff Neal may have made him focus on improving his striking and he’s been away from fighting for a year. I feel like this is another case of mma fans just wanting a fire show and not appreciating a skilled fight. I think that both guys were different than usual because they recognized the threat of each other. They trained with each other before, and came prepared for each other. I feel like shavkat was fine giving up a couple hits and exposing himself to previous opponents because he knew they wouldn't be able to capitalize on that opening and it would let him get in to finish them, like "it doesn't matter if i give you this, I'll be able to get to you". Whereas he knows the speed and PRECISION of Garry, and knowing Garry's a smart striker, if he exposed himself then Garry would hammer at that opening with precision even if he doesn't hit as hard as neil or others. And this fight showed how good Shavkat's timing and striking can be, compared to a very fast and long elite striker like Garry. And he was able to whip out well timed traditional takedowns and captialize on it with the ground and pound. Garry was very smart this fight too. I think he was the smartest opponent Shavkat has faced up until this point. Shavkat's knees in the clinch are one of his greatest weapons to wear people down, but Garry was holding down that knee whenever he was on the fence to negate it. And he knew that clinch was one of Shavkat's best attributes as well, so he focused on defending that. The only thing Garry did wrong imo is not moving around as much, but he was feinting the whole fight, respecting shavkat's power in his hands (he felt it, getting rocked in the earlier rounds). I feel like it was the reverse of normal for both these fighters and shows their well roundedness. Shavkat had better defence on the feet and more damaging striking, and Garry had the most significant fight altering submission attempt on the ground. I and many people's respects have grown for Ian Garry after this i think, he earned it. But i don't think people should discount Shavkat as much as they are. Besides belal these are probably the best people in the division, so it's natural the fight would be difficult and close. Sure, shavkat's destroyer aura is gone, but i dont think he gets ragdolled by belal. I think the higher and higher you you go in the division the smaller and smaller the skill differences get, and then it just comes to differences in style and how good people are on any individual day. I still think it is was a good fight. Respect to both shavkat and Garry, and can't wait to see the title fight.

i just see shavkat finishing belal ground and pound, belal will be hesitant to do anything with shavkat. he will probably wait on shavkat to lead the dance then counter all night hoping to scrape by and win by decision😂

I think Belal’s jab is going to be a problem for shavkat

Shavkat was outjabbing both Garry and Neal, what makes you think belal will outjab shavkat? Neal’s jab was giving belal problems back in the day as well. Belal isn’t dumb, he’s not gonna entertain boxing with shavkat as much as he did leon.

Shavkat Rakhmonov just got back to fighting in nearly a year. Probably a little rustic and Garry being a better fighter than ppl give him credit.

With submissions like Shavkat's I'm not sure takedowns win Belal the fight. I don't think Belal will just ragdoll him, and Belal could be in trouble if he gets a reversal.

So Shavkat got exposed hard this fight, if people dont stand and bang with him, he has a hard time getting an advantage. I'm saying this as a Shavkat fan.
