We got the HILARIOUS @MikeCannonComedy joining us and learning with us🙌 So, we got the Pilgrims, who didn't really love King George VIII and his new religion so they dipped to hang with the Dutch and THEN they went to new discovered land! That first winter was BRUTAL! But they figured things out with Squanto. The first Thanksgiving in North America took place in 1621, when English Pilgrims and Wampanoag Native Americans came together to celebrate a successful harvest. The Pilgrims, who had settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and the Wampanoag shared a feast that included wild game, seafood, and crops like corn and squash. It was a symbol of cooperation and goodwill between the two groups, though the historical details are somewhat limited. I had the role of Squanto in a first grade play..... I didn't have many lines, but I sat cross legged on the floor next to a pilgrim. My regalia was a piece of paper head band, a piece of paper feather, and a piece of paper shaped like a pipe. I pretended to light my fake pipe, and passed it around the circle. I doubt I'd have remembered this except for this episode. Thanksgiving will always be my favorite holiday by a long shot. It's not the food, or even the memories. It's just about the thanks.

Missed the most interesting character...Squanto. He was the intermediary between the Pilgrims and natives. He actually spoke English and had been across the ocean twice ,once returned and his tribe gone he was a " captive" of the Wauponaig. He was sent because he wasn't part of the tribe and although he easily could've pitted the natives against the Pilgrims, he made peace.

Syphilis is such a terrifying disease in pre-antibiotic history. I used to study archaeological skeleton collections from a medieval graveyard and the syphilis impact upon human bone is horrific. Late stage syphilis (>10 years of infection) will start to eat away at your skull and other bones, make your leg bones expand and all sorts of awful things to your skin. Never wish to go back in time pre 1950.
