He probably was. Those guys aren't really suppose to admit they are, especially older ones. He is in great shape which suggests military training, including the hair style. He knew how to break free from zip ties with a technique, there is indeed one that you learn from in the Marines. Many people will go on mission as Peace Keepers as a cover. I say the guy is legit. He refused to be considered a hero for escaping, people don't get humble over things they would lie about to impress others in the first place, and his hell of a tan and aged skin suggests he spent time in the Middle East. And he knows the geography, that country exists and most Americans don't know about it. :P
