I have a Service Dog and he was trained through an all-positive training program. I was told the exact things that you're saying here, that using any type of correction will harm the dog, and is completely not needed. Now I have a Service Dog that is afraid of everything (though he does great when he's working) and isn't as reliable as he should be. I have recently purchased a training program from a reputable trainer (you've partnered with them and they respect you and your training) that believes in dogs first. I've also done my research and realized that prong and e-collars are not bad for dogs, if used correctly. My dog needs these tools to be the best and happiest he can be, and I know that now, and I've researched how to use them properly. I'll be so happy when he's happier and isn't so afraid of things.

@@RobertCabralDogs Very sorry to hear of the recent Losses you have had. We live in UK and re the vaccines thing - I do vaccinate as live in a place with lots of dogs. I trained a standard poodle for my balance mobility service dog and she’s awesome-and I used “tools” because I didn’t want her to pull me over or get hurt in traffic. She is off leash obedient, and responds to verbal commands readily, and her ecollar light is great for dark morning walks. I was castigated by the P+ folks and didn’t care. You are 100% correct about neglect! My neighbor has a GSD that she puts out back in a filthy pen with 3 other dogs and never walks or trains, and it has bitten a child and my dog once when it broke out. My walking stick convinced it that it didn’t want to deal with me. The positive thing about social media came in when another neighbor posted pictures of their living conditions and the cops told her to put them inside. With 117 degree heat index it was a mercy. No loss can equal losing your mother. May good memories console your heart!

How do you teach the fundamental concepts of love, selfishness, fairness, codependency, basic sensibillity? Many can't even treat themselsves, their own kids, family properly- how do we teach them to treat their dogs properly? I see this (training the handler) as the key component in all of it, but over many years, i have had limited success. Sad, but we will keep the faith and keep trying! I LOVE my Maly- he needs more than any other dog Ive had- but he's been worth it !!! Thanks for your commitment to the unadulterated truth and your not being corrupted by these sick ass people !!!

I have a 16 year old dog and one who is almost 16. They are still both healthy, no arthritis, no health issues. They have eaten homemade raw for 14 years. I am not saying that this is why they are super healthy, however just giving my experience. Neither has ever been to the vet for any health issues either. I would say almost all dogs can get to age 8 on any food, however I think it gets iffy after that and be prepared for teeth cleanings if you feed kibble to small dogs. If people can only afford kibble, they could at least give them a bit of extra fresh meat, eggs or sardines which could make a huge difference.

I will live with that shame, that regret for the rest of my life.. And I get very frustrated and angry when ppl tell me they havent vaccinated theirs. It's no accident that in the west and America in particular, we use *exactly* the same argument for (predominantly black) women, unwanted pets, and now kids who might grow up to be gay or mentally impaired. Every aspect of our lives is wrapped up in politics right now. The truth: when dogs were bred for purpose and considered working companions, did we have such a huge problem with unwanted pets? When personal responsibility was popular, and good husbandry was taught, we didn't have this issue. When our focus as a nation changed from equality to equity, it removed personal responsibility from daily life and here we are three generations later. They encouraged us to antropomorphize dogs to discourage humans reproduction, and it has backfired into yet more social & political division.

@StarkK9Academy I wish I knew how to fix it. I'm increasingly coming to the conclusion that one person - and one dog - at a time from the ground up is the only way to build lasting results. It's a hard mentality to get away from. I quit breeding several years ago because I more often than not just plain wanted to throttle potential buyers (I bred good show quality chihuahuas & poms) who really just needed either a teddy bear or a garden gnome... and do a lot of work now with people & shelter dogs & groom for a living. I do like the work. Some vets are starting to come back around to some sort of common sense on vaccinations & early spay & neuter, but that's slow, too.

Robert this a Godsend, for various reasons. I have raised/trained various dog breeds, all lived a full life (except one, that we/vet suspect was poisoned). All were fed dog food from the store. I definitely did my research/deep dive on DIY Raw Dog Food and agree with you this is optional, but people including myself 🙋🏻♀️ was made to feel we are harming our dogs if they get any kind of kibble or canned dog food. Balanced trainers do need to network, because the purely PO trainers are coming after our tools. Vacs in the K9 world is a big issue like in our human world. My pups are rescues so they have their puppy vacs, but I will not over vacs them.

I wanted to add that there are times for example when the owner dies and none of the family members can take the dog that it’s necessary to surrender it but those situation‘s are extremely rare. And don’t get a muscle breed if you live in an apartment unless you have a signed agreement that it’s allowed. So many people just want one of these dogs and don’t even check to see if they are allowed in their apartment complex.

Hi Robert, I’ve been a dog trainer since I was in my teens and I’m in my 60’s now. I ran a veterinarian rehabilitation clinic for years and currently do behaviour modification with aggressive dogs. I use my intact male dogs as mentor dogs for dog aggression and socialization. I’ve fed every type of food. I’ve followed all the cognitive science (Brian Hare is a favourite). I’ve definitely modernized my training from 1970’s Kohler style Schutzhund training, through Karen Pryor style positive only training and back to the middle. Every dog/human relationship is individual. Dogs learn 100 times more quickly than humans and behaviour modification is for me a relationship puzzle. My personal dogs have been protection dogs, upland bird dogs and guardian dogs. My dogs have generally been very long lived. I believe this is because of the strong bond I have with them. I’ve never had a dog with dementia and I think this is because they always have a job and vitality around that job and around their relationship with me. I generally have three dogs with staggered ages. My old dog, Harry Flashman is an 28 inch tall Ryman English setter. He’s 13 and will hunt this fall. Harry has been an insulin dependent diabetic for 4+ years, yet he’s playful, engaged, strong willed and fucking gorgeous. This is a long way to say you’re right about everything you say. And also life sucks sometimes!❤❤❤❤

About 5 months ago I got a Malinois puppy. I handled them ~20 years ago. So for almost 20 years, I hadn't worked a Malinois, and had the same (non-Malinois) dog for 16 years after I got out of the military. At the time, I considered myself pretty darn good at it and had amazing bonds and a working relationship with my Malis in the service. Fast forward to when I got my puppy. I thought maybe I missed something the past 20 years and there was something new. Positive only? Sure OK I'll try it. So try it I did. In the first training with my puppy I was told there is no "No". That leash corrections were wrong. That food is the only motivator. That prong collars / e collars are torture. That corrections are wrong, and on and on. Again - maybe I'm missing something so I'll change it up. Holy shit I learned quick. Not even 4 lessons in the trainer had constant issues even showing up for the course. Would sideline my dog from training because she was "too distracted". Interjected her political bullshit in training. I said f that and went back to the way I used to train my dogs. By building the bond, the play, and the drive. The desire of the dog to WANT to work and be with you. Yes, corrections are needed. They need to learn, and often corrections are for things that save their life or health - and if you need tools for that, be it a prong collar or e collar, so be it. Malinois often need these. There's just no "positive only" way around that. What I learned in the end was: Dogs haven't changed. PEOPLE have. Look around you, everyone's politics is their religion, and it has pervaded every single part of our lives... including training dogs. Everyone has an "idea" of how things "ought" to be, and not how they really are. At the end of the day, you have to understand how dogs think, how they act, and what they want. And you need to provide it to them. Dogs look up to us for leadership, or they will figure it out themselves.. and that never ends up good for the dog or yourself.

I've sold premium dogs foods since the 90s through several pet stores, and been feeding raw since 2007. Premium brands are good, but I chose a raw diet. I like cleaning up less dog poop. And when the manufacturers of dog foods which majority of brands are processed at the same plants encountered fungus from corn, I can avoid it. Do what is best for you and your dog, feeding a raw diet isn't for everyone. It does require work, freezers to store, and a good fresh source to obtain it.

I volunteer at my local shelter and I am so glad someone finally stepped up and said the people that drop the dogs off are murderers not the person pushing the needle in. It’s sickens me how many people surrender their dogs and for the stupidest of reasons. Most of them are just lazy fucks that don’t want to do a lick of training or pay the dog any attention whatsoever. Thank God some people come in and actually adopt but the pit bulls just sit there and rot. I would say 75% of the dogs at the shelter are pits or pit mixes. It’s disgusting. Impulse control is something these people have never heard of.

Great show, sir. Appreciate the candid approach to expressing your opinion on many topics that would be considered controversial.

Thank you so much Robert for this factual, straight forward, no nonsense video. You tell it like it is and speak from many years of experience. There are too many gullible brain washed sheep out there and social media is the direct cause. You're the best.

Hi robert i have followed you for a long time i rescued a dog about two weeks ago and this dog was out of control it has a bite history with people and dogs and the last two owners were afraid of it because it had bitten them the dog is a working line border collie i got the dog and i have gave this dog two fairly hard corrections and o my god it is like a different dog i have had it going around sheep and it has fitted into my pack well i have 6 working line border collies it is like a different dog. when you give a dog what it needs to thrive and you step uo as pack leader the outcome is so different it is the first dog i have had where i thought it may have to be euthanised because it could not fit into society but i am over the moon with this dog it is awesome it just did not have what it needed to thrive, god bless mate and keep up the good work,

😢 So So sorry Robert about your dogs😔. My oldest is 15 and it’s just touch n go , I’ve had 3 of his Bloodline , No need for me to describe the feelings . God bless you guys. I absolutely hate online , Your completely right🤨I keep just a handful of friends that don’t see me there for months sometimes, but can …call me anytime. So I’m online consistently now , due to the fact that I’m taking online courses in some areas that I’m not that good at as a trainer.with that said , it’s hard to not see all the lies n bullshit 🤷🏻♀️🙈. You’re a great trainer, I watch you all the time also. Again condolences from myself my 2 Labs and my newest bay 1 year old Ivar ( 😅Belgium Mal🙏🙏🙏❤️

As for 'older' dog trainers -they have Decades of experience behind them. I am your age, and we definitely respected hard working people.

Thank for sharing this, Robert. I am so sorry for your loss and for your lately hard times. It was another video ment to... mend, a video to put on the heart. I wish you have time to answer on the training topic question. Beside you, Larry Krohn and Tobias Oleynik, I love Bart Bellon's work. Not being an expert, I would say NEPOPO is not for every dog, still, some how a 'weak' dog, shy dog -a not working dog-, could benefit from NEPOPO; I can't explain how -in which way- it is just a feeling from what I saw on Bart Bellon's video and others NEPOPO trainers. Now, my feeling about NEPOPO is if you want to train your dog in NEPOPO -no matter what level- you MUST to attend an NEPOPO training, is more about to train the owner, more than in other 'regular' training method. So what's opinion about NEPOPO. Thank you very much, Grüße aus Siebenbürgen!

I will never minimize the loss when your dog dies. My most sincere condolences on your losses both of Maya and your mother. It has been 2 years since our last dog died, at two years old very unexpectedly. I don't know when I will "get over it". I look for the good days and cope with the bad. I hope you find peace

Cesspool that is humanity these days. It simply was not like this even a few decades ago. So sorry you’re going through so much, and thanks for what you do. It’s amazing to me how many people are so wrong about everything dog-related. And yeah, people want to be fanatics about most everything. I favor a very high quality homemade raw diet, Pitcairn’s Guide recipes, but I’m feeding the best kibble I can afford now because I’m traveling…. Dogs are omnivore garbage-eaters, for sure! Always have been… 🤣 And I have to say that at this point, the very old are just too old, the very young are just…. Millennials or whatever, and the only hope at this point is GenX. Live up, kids…. 🙄

I have a fb that is no gender, no town, no pictures, no friends. I like the marketplace and looking at groups. Other than that, it became way too toxic so I left it. And yeah, social media is not conducive with serenity. Love from Montana ❤❤

Vets who keep up to date on veterinary medicine know that vaccinating dogs over and over on a yearly schedule is not necessary and could do more harm than good. Once every couple of years I have a titer test done on my dogs. The results invariably show that antibodies are still there from the original vaccines, making additional vaccines unnecessary. I personally don't believe in castrating dogs. My 10 year old Malinois is neutered but I got him that way at 2 years old. My male chocolate lab is intact at 6 years old. That said, I did find a veterinary clinic in my area that does vasectomies, which raises the question of why they don't all offer it. The answer probably is that vets just tend to do what they always do, which is to suggest 6 month castration or spaying. Very sad.
