The Truth About The Soul (Dr Mark Grixti)

This episode is the live audio recording from Dr Mark Grixti's extraordinary, numinous presentation at the Brainspotting International Conference in Denver, Colorado July 2021.
Can neuroscience help us with this question? We appreciate just how effective science can be in grasping the ungraspable, in order to get to hidden truths. But it depends what question we are asking in order to determine an answer. I am interested not in ‘what is the soul’ but ‘the truth about the soul’. This is a fundamental precursor to our exploration as neuroscience has indicated to us that the brain would consider these positions differently depending on which part of the brain is primarily being used. How is this helpful? Well it is now understood that at some level, most of the brain is involved in nearly all mental processes, which can be appreciated by the comprehensive activity observed through brain scans. Useful as this can be, making something more explicit doesn’t make it easier to understand, but rather can leave us understanding something other than what we originally set out to discover.

Yes! I'm actually feeling this. I tried to determine where my decision to act was. There are supposed areas where decisions are made but then, what motivated the decision? So, to me, that means that consciousness is not identifiable in terms of an isolated point in time. We became conscious and slowly develop towards self-aware. It just developed with all the complexities of instinct and decision from then on and continues to do so. It's a flow.

This is what I've taken from this beautiful episode/presentation: 17:33 I love what you say Mark about the souls entirety, throughout infinity. I really don't think we are supposed to be able to grasp onto the totality of everything, because there is soooo much more for us to learn and evolve into over the next million and beyond planes. Not even the saints. We're such a baby species on the evolution scale. The fun doesn't stop for a long while me thinks ;) 32.40: This is wonderful- thank you. To me it points towards a truth: to enjoy the wholeness of life, we need to include everything and Love everything. There is no 'me' without the 'other', which implies All Is One ♥ ♥ During the beautiful reflection of Ludovico Einaudi, inspiration came to me and I realised even more how we are in and part of a beautiful fictional story that feels very real. But we are the Director, writer and character all simultaneously. 39:19 it's the divine dichotomy. I am nothing and everything.
