Glad you posted this! Very important for people to realize that body types are different. I am pretty short and this was my goal body as a teenager. Ive always been lean and I couldnt figure out why I was skinny but still didnt look like these models. So I just tried not eating. For a short girl this is not a realistic look. No matter how lean you get shorter limbs will NEVER LOOK LIKE THIS. So to all my short friends please take care of yourselves and look elsewhere for inspiration

Also the body type of the Angels is an aestecthic, just like with body building. Victoria secret shouldnt be forced to add overweight models. It's just not the aestecthic.

but actually they photoshop almost all photos they post on their igs, check an instagram account called celebface. most of the models edited their faces and bodies, either to look more curvy or like they were thick and only one or two edited themselves to look more slim which is even more ridiculous
@fenecofeneco19

They "bash" models because many of them are not healthy and since u don't see how what they eat smoke drink they shouldn't be venerated and compared to the rest of women in attempt to make them feel less than models.VS changed a lot over the years they changed body type meso ecto endomorph but most of them all look dried out in the same way NOT respecting all body types.Models from the past are way better in every way because it was more about the body, goal wasn't having monotone aestetic and force it on every body type ,it was having a body type and work for the better version of it.Now there's only one aesthetic and all different model have to conform to that.I'm sure u go to curvy models discussions and defend them from those hating on them too ...I'm SURE u do.
@sxpreme-2960
@sxpreme-2960 5 жыл бұрын
@@fenecofeneco19 point isn't to "respect" all body types. Just like body building there's a certain aestecthic they are going for. It doesn't have to be your standard of beauty, just like muscular men and women doesn't have to be your preference The Angels work out a lot to get lean the way they do. They don't eat much because they want to look lean, most of then do eat very clean, which should be praised. They work out more than average people , because average people are lazy or have other priorities. That's okay, but don't bash people for taking pride in working out & leaning out. Body building can be unhealthly too and doesn't show "average people" but that's the point, bc those people have worked hard

I was feeling fat and unatractive, but when I watched the VS Fashion Show I felt so inspired! I instantly felt better in my own skin, because the sexiest, the most beautiful models on the runway, are those who are confident, who have fun and smile. I started eating well and going to the gym (and heckin enjoying it!). I understand why there is so much critisism around the models, but for me, they are inspiration for a healthy lifestyle, for loving myself and being a strong woman. Anyone with me?

These ladies work their butts off in their daily lives and in their careers to get to that point and to look how they do. Natalia Igaa i honestly don’t care. People don’t go around shaming fat women or calling them unhealthy but have no problem doing it to thin women. Wrong is wrong. I don’t really care to go look at your “preference” because it doesn’t matter. If people are so happy with their bodies then they wouldn’t have something negative to say about these women. Confident women don’t nitpick other women about their bodies. If you’re criticizing, it’s jealousy because something about them makes you feel insecure

I am still a bit concerned about the modelling industry and the age (15/16 is not unusual) for overt sexuality to be framed around very young women. There was indeed a ruling, never enforced about weight/body mass and age but came to nothing. I am also concerned that -- this is totally not model bashing, on the contrary, they work incredibly hard -- young women are growing up, see photos and think they have to look like that and in my experience, some men reinforce these expectations with a vengeance when girls are most vulnerable. I lost a close friend to anorexia; knew her very well years ago and her environment was relentlessly focussed on her looks. So, yes this was a brilliant video, but the darker side cannot be wished away. Loved the science of the video and the knowledge, but not all models (thinking Kate Moss) are models -- sorry for inadvertent pun -- of health.
@marinaamir7077
@marinaamir7077 5 жыл бұрын
hongphetc using the same logic you could argue that many people are also ‘naturally’ overweight or obese, for example supermodels Ashley Graham & Tess Holliday. They’re absolutely gorgeous, so are Victoria’s Secret models, and I’m sure you are too! But beauty is not always synonymous with health. Actual scientific medical studies have shown that a BMI between 18.4 and 25.0 is ideal for long term health.

Whenever I hear anyone say anything negative about models (any of them) it seems like the comments are coming from a place of jealousy and envy. People will automatically say it is completely unachievable and unrealistic. Not everyone who is young and tall looks like theses VS models. It takes dedication, hard work, and consistency. Like Abby stated, you can change your body if you're not happy with it. Easier to bash people and complain than take responsibility and put in the work.

it's always easier to hate and say they're not healthy anyway, than admit you need to have the right combination of characteristics to look like them. without it, it would be very hard. but people will say they're unhealthy as a subliminal excuse to not try to achieve the way they look, because deep down we know it would be near impossible, you partially have to be born that way. and the part with the liquid diets and crazy workouts before the show, how unhealthy it is, tell me, you never pulled an all nighter before a test fuled by coffee and/or enegry driks? you never stayed overtime at work days in a row to finish a project/task then got home and fell into bed? these aren't healthy either, but I'm sure the majority of people do it because we push ourselves harder before a deadline or major evaluation of our competence. it's their job to look the best they can in lingerie and no wonder they'll push themselves before a show, only in different ways then us with more usual jobs. I'm happy to see a positive video about these women, they get so much criticism. if it were easy, many many people would look like them.

a lot of these models keep having a BMI of 17.5 or less (healthy BMI is above 18.5). the reason imo people get heated over this and say they are unhealthy is because most of them are already built this way but also workout and eat in order to lose some extra pounds just to look even leaner. and just because you pull a one nigher once every x months before a test doesn't compare to going the last month in a liquid diet and crazy workouts, if you compare to those in silicon valley that do small doses of drugs to literally not sleep or only needing a few hours of sleep without getting tired that's the best comparison. they probably are already people that don't need that much sleep to be functional the fucked up part is going beyond that and going things that are like or not, unhealthy for your body. also for reference my BMI is 16.4 unless i try hard to gain weight and even then it's incredibly hard for me to get to a BMI of 17 even, but i'm sure as hell not all of them are built this way and i'm sure as hell that what they do is unhealthy, their image of themselves is unhealthy or else they wouldnt edit the crap out of their faces and bodie (check celebface on ig, gigi hadid edits her face soooo much it's ridiuclous), some of them either edited to make themselves look more thick and like they had more weight or even more skinny somehow

thank you for this video, it always pisses me off when people bash models saying they’re starving themselves for their bodies or that they’re unrealistic. realistically they don’t have to work that hard to keep it. i’m 5’11 and 115 pounds and ive looked like this my whole life, i eat whatever i want and go to the gym when i want and my body has never changed. its 95% genetics some people just naturally have the “model” build.

You're so wonderful Abby! It's amazing to take the time to make it clear that these girls aren't a bunch of starving super humans, but they "simply" live a consistent and healthy lifestyle that is well thought out. Also, your last two minutes were why I love you so much. Even if we were all to follow the EXACT same routines as a VS angel, we would most likely still look different and that's okay. Loved this vid and your approach! ❤

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think any woman will look her best, if she follows the VS daily routine. Both diet, exercise, grooming/hygene, posture, etc. It is designed to make them look their best, and enhance their individual body, not make it a certain way. And any woman can do that! :) I never really understood this obsession with being tall and thin like a model. Any body have an attractive shape inside, and what you do in your everyday life is what brings it out. VS models are not gorgeous because they are tall and thin; they are beautiful because they are making the most of their particular features. Long, toned muscles (as the VS models usually train for) will look good on any body type, since they enhance the natural shape of the body. Taking care of hair, nails and skin, wearing nice clothes, and looking put together, will make a huge difference. Not to mention posture, how you move your body, and how you interact with others. Just take inspiration from them, and see what it does to your body. I am sure it will be beautiful. ;)
@katherinecovington4850
@katherinecovington4850 5 жыл бұрын
HereIAm247 it’s not possible for any woman to do it though. VS models usually work out 2 or 3 times per day. Regular people don’t have time to do that. Plus, their diet isn’t even that healthy. They barely eat any carbs, which should make up a majority of your diet.
@HereIAm247
@HereIAm247 5 жыл бұрын
@@katherinecovington4850 You don't have to do everything exactly like the models to look good. Just following the tips moderately will make a huge difference in any womans appearance. :) But obviously, your results will depend on the effort you put in. As the video states, they eat very healthy, and they don't undereat. Anyone can cook every night with fresh vegetables, non processed meat, and perhaps a moderate amount of rice/bulgur/potatoes/etc. Just spending a little time learning a few basic go-to recipes will get you started, and then you can expand with more recepies later. A lot of them do eat carbs; they just don't exaggerate the amount. Just use 1/2 a cup of bulgur/rice/other grains (it is delicious!), 100-150 grams of lean meat, and bake some veggies in the oven. Use seasoning. Healthy and delicious, and in no way fanatic. Just use a tablespoon of olive oil/other healthy oil at the most; no more and no less. Obviously you won't see results if you eat burger and fries every night; just practice the 80/20 method, and eat healthy the majority of the time. They only work out 2 times a day in runway season. The rest of the time is daily. And no-one is saying you need to work out that much to see results. Doing the exercises they recommend for 30 minutes every day, will make a difference, and start toning and shaping your body. Even 15 minutes will make a difference, just over a longer period of time. If you are overweight, sure, you might need to do more exercise if you want fast results. But for a women with a BMI under 25, being consistent will show results relatively quickly. Working out will also help your posture, and help you move in a more beautiful way. The good thing about the exercises they do is, that they are designed to shape the body to be as feminine as possible. Even of they put on 25 pounds, their body shape/proportions would still look feminine. It is not their body fat percentage that makes them beautiful; it is their proportions, posture and the way they move. Taking just 5-10 minutes to do your hair, and 5 minutes to take care of your skin (could be at night), and spending 5 minutes on a nice outfit, that enhance the best parts of your body, will make you feel more confident. That is 10 minutes at night, and 10 minutes in the morning. Think of it as a self care ritual; some time you take to spoil yourself a little. Practicing your tongue posture can help define your jaw and chin, and drinking lots of water will help a number of things. (hairgrowth, inflammation, skin, nails, energy levels, deputing your face, etc.) Looking good is not an all or nothing thing. :) The things I mentioned are doable for most. As I said, it is more about taking inspiration from it, than meticulously do everything precisely like them. Look at what you spend your freetime on. I used to spend hours on the couch, doing nothing. And that is fine. But I decided to take at least 15 minutes each day to exercise, and I often end up doing more once I get started. And another 15 minutes for self-care in the morning/evening. I generally eat healthy. It is not that much when you think about it, and you don't really feel it missing.

I remember when most of my teenage years and early 20s were consumed trying to look like a VS model from my toxic relationship with food to harming my body in ways that has taken years to undo. And quite frankly, I am still trying to mend my ED today. What helped me snap out of this obsession was to see it from a different perspective. Someone told me “Their full-time job is to look good. Imagine if your entire career and life involved working on your physique 24/7.... you would do everything to uphold those beauty standards and would have access to the best diet plans, exercises and training programs, skincare regimens, etc...” Exactly what I needed to hear! Don’t compare yourself!

"Our acceptance comes from within" - Abby Pollock. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the message in this video. I can't agree more! Every body has different body type and genetics. People should be happy with how they look and who they are as long as they are living a healthy lifestyle (mentally and physically). With my body type, I will never look like the models even at my healthiest time and I have accepted that fact from inside out. (It took me a long time to accept that fact and be happy with who I am.) From what I have seen, VS models usually eating healthy foods and workout. I feel that people have a misconception that VS models don't eat and starve themselves. Sure, they are blessed with tall and lean genetics, but they work hard to have the bodies they want! Bashing on VS models' bodies which they work hard to get and their blessed genetics is no different from bashing on overweight and inactive people.

I love you summary at the end. For most of my adult life, I was unhappy with my body, even when I was thin. In the past 2 years, I've really been learning how to accept and love my genetic body shape and the proportions I was born with with, despite needing to lose weight, this way, when I do achieve my goals, I won't still be unhappy with my body's build/shapes/proportions.

Of course I still want to look good in my clothes, but I don’t obsess anymore. I’ve taken my focus from being thin to being healthy and happy. Currently the number in the scale is more than I’d like, but I just keep making healthy choices and let my body dictate what it needs.
