Jaime as an elder millennial who has been on Team Backstreet since 1997, I too have Lou Pearlman radar and its amazing you clocked this so well. They must've decided enough time has gone by that they can try this all again on a new generation. I pray that these guys have good lawyers and have thoroughly read any contracts before they sign them. Even though Lou has died, he had a huge network of helpers that could be scamming to this day. If you haven't, I'd recommend Backstreet Boys' documentary from 2015. Its on streaming services. They actually to go Lou's old mansion and some of them couldn't go inside, even though they are grown men. It makes you wonder what horrors they all experience that us teeny boppers had no idea about.
@bananawitchcraft7 ай бұрын
It honestly doesn't help that they're all just kids. It's in the name of the genre, boy bands. Their lack of life experience and critical thinking skills makes them easy targets for exploitation. Just like all the kids who sign student loan contracts to pay for college without realizing what they're getting themselves into.
@ArtistFormallyKnownasMC7 ай бұрын
Oof, the comment about the mansion had me choke up a little. It’s silly to have these para social relationships, but we do. And we have learned soooooooo much in the past idk 5 or 10 years about the horrors of Hollywood and the music industry. And my heart hurts for these people that were held in front of us like marionettes. Ugh And they were just kids. Maybe legal adults, maybe not, but nowhere near mature enough to handle it and know how wrong it was.
@thewhiterabbitchaser6 ай бұрын
@@ArtistFormallyKnownasMC It's not silly, it's actually a very natural result of human empathy to form parasocial relationships, and if you've cared about someone's work or followed their career, to hear they've been mistreated, especially while creating something that may have shaped you as a person, is actually a very healthy emotional reaction, if you were to see abuse of someone, even a fictional character and shrug and be like 'lol whatevs don't know them' that's way more concerning to me personally, it's just important to always remember to be respectful and keep in mind that it IS parasocial and therefor in order to be kind to the person, to remember to treat them like they don't know you, because they don't, and keep a respectful distance, but it's still ok to care for them, or others in general and feel compassion. 16:57 As a k-pop fan it is actually completely normal for groups to all live together. Primarily cause it just makes it easy to keep track of them all for schedules and such. As they get older members will usually move out of the dorm if they want to.
@mentalmaker037 ай бұрын
Sure, but that's in South Korean with that industry. This is a boy band in America. It's not the same kind of contractual obligations.
@LexMeRep7 ай бұрын
@mentalmaker03 The K-pop industry was designed after American boybands. They just went professional with it and saw it similar as training athletes.

The thing is both industries does it to control the members, in one way or another. Is not only Korea but most recent boy groups in America like Pretty Much also lived together.
@mattwood86597 ай бұрын
That shouldn't be normalised. It is rather controlling
@darthtepes7 ай бұрын
as far as I'm concerned, Korean contractual obligations are waaay more severe that those in the US or in the UK, and I really wonder how that is even normalized.

I'm thankful nothing creepy seems to be going on and that one of the guys' dads is directly involved in a lot of the production aspects. It really just seems like a bunch of older guys who worked with Lou desperately trying to catch lightning in a bottle by mimicking his business strategy to a T without having the same business and marketing smarts, or understanding that this genre of boy band doesn't really sell anymore. Honestly, I think the boys would be much more successful managing themselves. They probably have a much better idea of what people their age will respond to than a bunch of aging folks in the industry who last touched base with teens in 2003.

From what I remember, NSYNC did form organically. A couple of them worked at Disney together and decided to create a group, and knew of two of the other guys. Can't remember who specifically right now. They realized that they really needed a bass, and one of their vocal coaches suggested Lance Bass, who was a student of his. Everything clicked between them, and they eventually went to Perlman for financial backing. Btw, I was working in concert production in Toronto at that time, and was there for the very first show they did there. It was free admission through a radio giveaway, they used in house sound and lighting, and Lance and Justin's moms were with them because they were so young. They were really sweet, and I was lucky enough to work with them for the rest of their Toronto shows, throughout their career. Their crew was as great as they were, and local crew always said "An NSYNC day is a good day..." because they were all so easy to work with. Anyway, this video gave me the ick. And eff Perlman, that disgusting piece of 💩
@Chibbykins7 ай бұрын
Funny enough Chris Kirkpatrick, the least famous member (seems sweet tho!), actually started NSYNC. But I thought it was more organic than it actually was. Apparently he met Lou (Rot in Pieces) who told Chris to put the band together himself and it took like a year of looking. Justin and JC did know each other from Disney and joined at the same time
@puffitale7 ай бұрын
@@Chibbykins Adding to this, Chris auditioned for BSB, but was rejected based on there already being too many brunettes in the group. Chris knew Justin from the audition circuit, Justin and JC were on the MMC. Joey helped JC move into his Orlando place for the MMC (apparently…JC was unloading boxes, a random Joey appeared and asked if he needed help). JC also had mutual friends on the show who went to school with Joey (Jennifer McGill). Joey also worked with Chris at Universal Studios (wolfie). When JC came back to Orlando to join ‘Nsync after being asked by Justin to join the group, Joey was in a group called “The Big Guys” with Luis Fonsi. JC’s all like “I’m in a group,” so Joey’s all like “well, I’m also in a group, and we’re going to to be so much more successful than your group.” TBG broke up and you’ve pretty much covered the rest regarding Lance.
@MarcoDSabo6 ай бұрын
@@puffitale That’s actually not true. Chris has debunked that several times. Look up his interview with AskAnythingEntertaintment and he flats out says he never auditioned for BSB. “missed the cut for BSB” just meant that he didn’t know that the auditioning for the group was even a thing 😭 The brunette thing was in reference to Howie not asking him to audition when a member of the OG lineup of the Backstreet Boys, Burke Parsons, had left the group. Howie eventually got his friend (and Chris’s friend) Charlie Edwards to try out and join.
