Yes please...Dr. McDougall and his Omega 3 talk VS Dr. Brooke Goldner. And I don't mean that in a confrontational way. It is just that when I listen to Dr. M, I see the science and think he's right. When I hear Dr. G talk, I see her science, and think she's right too. It is just sooooo confusing, because they are on two totally different sides of the spectrum. Then I start listening to the raw foodists, and they are very convincing too.

I have the same problem and I don't understand how both carnivores and frutarians could be right at the same time, but they are. There are people who have been only beef and salt for fifteen years and are perfectly fine. On the other hand, there are frutarians who have been eating this way for 30 years and are also perfectly fine. I just don't get it.

Say No. Today is Friday, October 6, 2023. Just say No. Look yourself in the mirror. If you don't like what you see, say No and get onboard to make the change. That's what l did. People need to love themselves enough to take care of themselves. l believe this. l want to feel good and l want to fit back into all my clothes. l love mash potato and golden gravy. l want to eat well. Easy peasy. People can do this. And there are a lot of folks onboard. This world is big and folks move in different directions. Those that learn about the Starch Solution and are Women Warriors and watch Chef AJ making her decadent deserts and listen to Dr. Lisle....we live a richer lifestyle. I am so confused on Vit. D! I understand Dr. McDougall’s position but I would love to hear a panel of plant based doctors discuss/ debate this issue. Don’t know what to do as I do not live in a place where I can get sun for most of the year.
@emiljohansson923
@emiljohansson923 Жыл бұрын
It's the same for me. I live in Sweden and I can only get the amount of sunshine that Dr. McDougall recommends during the warmest 3 months of the year. During the winter, the sun is only up for couple of hours every day. And when the sun is actually up it is usually very cloudy. It's impossible to get enough sunshine here.
@OolTube02
@OolTube02 Жыл бұрын
@@emiljohansson923 Also the very wavelengths that stimulate vitamin D2 production are also the ones that are the most likely to give you skin cancer from cumulative UV damage. So advising people that "you don't need supplements; just go out into the sun every day" is actually very irresponsible. Even in places where you would be getting enough sun all year round.

This the best and most clearest talk about vit D . Easy to understand and how easy it is to get minutes times a day in the sun or in colder places ultra violate sun light. I didn't know it was that easy. I have heard many say we need 20 minutes sunlight . I thought we had to sit in the sun for that time each day. I wondered how do we get it in winter. Thanks doctor Mc Dougall your a legend in my book

I don’t store vit D efficiently and even in summer my levels are lower than normal - I’m active plant based and a sunshine baby being in the sun several times per day, and dark skinned- after blood work I take a dose that will get my levels up and keep it there. I sweat a lot and in menopause, factors which affect storing vitamin D. Good info to know as I grow older & adjust my vitamin d intake after each blood work. Also my vitamin D is plant based and from a reputable company. I take it several times per week, not everyday except in winter I take more often. Plus monthly for 4-7 days I don’t take any supplements & one day weekly (Wednesdays) I take no supplements to rest my body and digestive system. Really great info ❤ thanks chef AJ 😘🙏🏽🤎

I recently had lab work done. My doctor told me to take 50 units of vitamin D3 since I was very low. I asked him if I need vitamin K2 to take along with this and he said no. I am fair skinned. I live in Central Wisconsin. I do have hair loss, burning tingling feet, achy legs, etc. I am not on any other medication. I work indoors, so I do not get much sun. I was alarmed with the 50,000 units and ask Dr. McDougal, the best way to handle my deficiency. I am very new and beginning the whole food plant-based diet. Thank you very much.

Dear chef AJ or anyone in the chat, in one of John McDougalls seminar i think around 2005-2012 , he invited a guest who even wrote a book on the sun,/ vit d I believe. What I remember most that his main talk was about the effect of the sun and that the sun doesn't neccesarily cause skin cancer. Do you have any idea who this man was? I can't seem to find recall his name unfortunately . I believe he came from either california or florida and was middle aged man .

Hi Chef AJ, Can I ask how or why you realized that you were a food addict? I have lost 90 lbs following Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's protocol because of heart disease, and now weigh a healthy 113 lbs. I've left behind heart disease, diverticulitis, active lupus symptoms, gallbladder issues, etc. I never considered myself a "food addict". I was brought up in a house that ate the typical Western diet, and I loved the food. I enjoyed eating everything, especially cheese and junk food. Pastries and fast food too. But I never thought about calling it an addiction. I just liked the food! (Not anymore, though, haha) Can you explain why you feel this way?

from the Harvard School of Public Health, The Nutrition Source: A promising report in the Archives of Internal Medicine suggests that taking vitamin D supplements may reduce overall mortality rates: A combined analysis of multiple studies found that taking modest levels of vitamin D supplements was associated with a statistically significant 7% reduction in mortality from any cause. [72] The analysis looked at the findings from 18 randomized controlled trials that enrolled a total of nearly 60,000 study participants; most of the study participants took between 400 and 800 IU of vitamin D per day for an average of five years. Keep in mind that this analysis has several limitations, chief among them the fact that the studies it included were not designed to explore mortality in general, or explore specific causes of death. A recent meta-analysis suggests that this reduction in mortality is driven mostly by a reduction in cancer mortality. [38] More research is needed before any broad claims can be made about vitamin D and mortality. [73] 38. Keum N, Lee DH, Greenwood DC, Manson JE, Giovannucci E. No, the UV light that you need to make Vitamin D does not go through glass. If you are north of Atlanta Georgia, winter sunlight is not direct enough to make vitamin D naturally from sunlight. Sorry, but the Dr. Is wrong on this topic. I like Dr. M, and agree with most of his information, but not this topic. My mother tested a level of 12 nmol/ml, and was suffering from anxiety, lack of sleep, gut issues, muscle aches and arthritis aches. She started supplementing Vitamin D, and her sleep improved, and body aches went away. She is 79. For me vitamin D improved my sleep, and stopped food cravings and over-eating. Vitamin D has been a lifesaver.

You know, I'm not going to risk skin cancer from sun exposure. I know sunlight makes my skin create vitamin D2 but it also gives it cumulative UV radiation damage. And the most vitamin D production stimulating wavelengths are also the most cell damaging and potentially carcinogenic ones. So why would I make that Faustian bargain of healthy vitamin D levels in exchange for a prematurely aging skin if I can get the same effect from taking supplements? I'm sorry, but you've lost me there. Also, who gets rich from selling vitamin D? It's not exactly a patented drug with huge profit margins. Your exasperated conspiratorial tales don't sound plausible to me in this case.

I think Dr. Nedley & Dr. McDougall should get together 😉👊🏾🙏🏽 @chefAJ Dr Nedley never recommends anything before complete blood work - tests reg doc don’t even do - because he looks at physical & mental health components 👊🏾🤎
