New VR users: “VR makes me nauseous” 2Old4Forza members: “Lemme get another beer between qualy and the race”

In my experience, age is a huge factor. I was 46 when I started VR racing, and it took me a couple of weeks of before I could drive with no nausea. My 20 years old nephew felt pretty much nothing when he tried it - and my 79 years old step-father was ill for a couple of hours! :( There is a VR racing cafe here in Copenhagen where they have motion rigs and a couple of fans per seat, and they claim that hardly anyone gets sick.

I was 42 and it was absolutely fine for me from the get go. My wife who's a couple of years younger couldn't stand it for more than a few seconds. But she also says she gets a bit nauseous with triple screens when the car is turning. Interesting, that she was OK at a Universal Studios Theme Park VR-ride (that one had motion synced with VR) and she does just fine riding in real rollercoasters (but not VR ones!). I guess that some people are just more sensitive when they perceive the world moving around, but their body feels nothing

My first experience was the CV1 in PC2. I was immediately comfortable and felt at home. I always kinda struggled using a monitor. My real love for sim racing and immersion kicked off that first time. Since then I’ve gone a bit overboard chasing immersion. DD wheel, hydraulic pedals, seat mover, 4 Buttkickers, pro sim H pattern shifter...Jesus..

I took a punt on a DK1 back in 2014, you could say I was an early addict. Sold my triples 3 months later and never looked back.

The nice thing is that with VR uprising, you should be able to find a VR arcade to explore the system. Covid doesn’t help with that, but certainly it’s nice to have them.

In the USA sim racing / VR arcades are not a thing. Even in the bay area

Glad you made this video. It's definitely what a lot of people need to see if they're on the fence. My first HMD was the Vive. My friend had me over to try his. I purchased one of my own the next day. I remember he was all excited to show me Space Pirate Trainer... meanwhile, I lugged my midtower over and hooked it up. After spending like 30 minutes just looking around the inside of a BMW M1 Procar (and walking around it, too) I knew I was ready to empty my wallet.

I tried VR on my Oculus Quest 2 at 74-80FPS and I couldn’t do it without getting sick. I’ve since set it to 90 FPS and I’m good to go - major difference!

Great video! Sorry if this is a dumb question but can vr headsets damage your eyesight over time? Or is it just a matter of taking breaks every once and a while?

Honestly I dont know, but I'm going blind if that is the case.

VR made me sick as shit for awhile but now that I went fuckin overkill on my rig, I agree with you 100%. If Nvidia would stop the pirate scalpers, I could upgrade my 1080ti. Ginger pills help GREATLY if people get motion sick. Just fyi.

Good explanation of pros and cons. I have never driven a sim on a monitor. VR is really pretty incredible. It is funny that I bought a headset for Beat Saber and such but damn, and I mean damn, the racing sims are outstanding so that's taken a back seat. So my problem is that I am actually "old" I guess and I don't know anything about Discord. Time to jump in there right? I'm totally new to sim racing and Dirt 2 has really got me hooked.

Please join discord and introduce yourself! We got plenty of other helpful old guys in there. We do a weekly dirt rally 2 event and raceoads of AC as well

@@2Old4Forza Sweet, I'll go right now and have a look. The bass shaker things are actually hilarious. Highly, highly recommend those. I literally giggled like a school girl after I installed a couple of small ones, I'm adding more as we speak.

You use VR because you can't see the monitor properly over the wheel, admit it.

Monitor guys - "awww I can't see my wheel, button box, and useless 8th monitor with BS information on it! All the time I spent making my rig look instagram siiiiiick is now wasted. VR SUCKS!"

VR saves you money on needless peripherals... but then it costs you extra in PC hardware. Damn I really want a new 3000 series.

Hi! (used to be in 2old2forza way back in Forza 3 or 4 or was it 2? Sorry, 2old2remember) anyway.. Great video! Very informative and should help people decide what to do. Im one of the fools hoping next Forza support vr... Well.. Dont even support my wheelsetup on pc now... Nowdays i do mostly iracing. I tried Assetto corsa competizione some times, and ams2, and rfactor 2. But i cant get a good steady framerate in vr. In iracing (can run on a potato with vga cable) is awsome! Racing with pimax @90hz and fov =150. Good eyecandy. And fps around 90. The other games i mention is really hard on the pc. I got a ryzen 5 3600x and 2080ti. Good setup for most games but not that much for simracing. I think (think - not an expert) is that the cpu Hz is too low. Seen people in the community with i5 cpu @5100hz and 1080ti card running steady 120 and more fps in iracing.. With more candy than me. And we got some techdudes that fiddles with the ini file.. 🙈 Well.. Too long comment.. Sorry.. One more thing : vr is awsome!

I'll wait until there is a competitive market and a proven solution for $2500 that is turn key. But it is awesome to follow people's builds on the RD thread.

Dude all is good whit VR when you lock the onboard camera to horizon then no sickness and make you fill like you are in the cockpit of the car or flying, takes 3 minutes to get used to it. :) Good video you get thumbs up
@2Old4Forza3 жыл бұрын
Lock to horizon makes me super nauseous to this day, but I know loads of people who run it
