Funny how when I first got into VTubers, graduations, particularly in the corpo scene, were always such a dreadful thing. Whereas now, it has more of a feeling of, "Alright, I'll see you in 2 weeks".

I still freshly remember, it was like just last week, about how it's such a taboo to talk about "life after graduations" of the VTubers. The sphere is changing, the world is healing. Lol. 😂 I hope this doesn't sound too demeaning to the culture within, or towards the feelings of both parties, but I always see the "G word" as capitalizing and glamourizing the "end/termination of contract" towards the fans and to staunch and minimalize the "stepping stone" effect for the corpos. (Up until a couple of months ago, that is. I brood and bawled internally for days. Lmao 😅) And after then, I saw this as a last "hurrah" both of the talents and fans presented to each other, and now it looks so bitter sweet. I get the sentiment now, but I still disagree on how a G-word became such a taboo to talk about in the sphere (understandably, VTubing might've came off as a "branch" of J-idol anyway, so eh~). And speaking of "different VA for same chara", I remember how I stopped watching Spongebob on my local TV during my junior high days, cause they changed the local VA to this random voice that I've never heard of and outside of what normalcy I've had. Literal, "who are you people?" Patrik moment back then. Lmao! So honestly, it is very understandable and relateable to me for VTuber fans not wanting to have their oshis to be voiced by someone else. 😭 Great video, Lynne~! 🙏😘

There's definitely some corpo-shenanigans like "last-minute capitalizing" on the leaving talent especially with brand new graduation merch and clearing out old stock. Safety & non-competes are also some other factors that make the topic difficult to bring up post-graduation, but I agree on how oddly taboo of a topic it is in the vtuber community whereas you see j-idols with basically a job history resume

Mhmm. Now I disagree while still understand the concept and sentiment behind it. Yeah, the paperwork stuffs are way beyond fans comprehension. Ah yeah, "resume"! My brain went blank on what the word was when I wrote the reply earlier. Lmao! 😂

Right now so many graduations happen and then we see the talent a few weeks later under a new/old name. Good for us though!

Still pretty new to the vtubing sphere so I haven't experienced an impactful graduation yet, but when they happen the lasting impression they leave on the fans is something you can't ignore. As a bystander to this, it's kind of nice to see because of that emotional attachment people have for their oshis - how they became part of their lives much like any other formative media, it shows that vtubing in general is really making its way to solidify its presence in the media industry. For reincarnations- in a way it won't be the same, but it's getting kinda funny now that their new forms do keep "hints" for those that remember (corpo -> indie, maybe indie -> corpo, but i don't see it often)

One (tho they were a pair in one channel, so two?) of the first vtubers I watched and really got into the community of, graduated sometime ago and I was suuuuper sad about it. Then soon after that another "pair" debuted in a big company. It made me happy but it wasn't quite the same. And now that I've seen a lot more graduations leading to the "person" popping up somewhere else, makes it a bit less sad. I've always found the concept of the "character" and "voice"/"person" being treated as completely separate entities in the industry very fascinating, as I've always weighed more importance on the person behind the model and still find it a bit difficult to completely separate them from the persona. You explained it well here.

I have seen a couple of indefinite hiatuses here and there. From analysing the letters , they basically found a new stepping stone. Actually I joined in the Vtuber rabbithole starting with a graduation of Hololive. As for the now , I'm Batman yelling The Joker "WHERE ARE THEY!!???" in my head.

Loooots of graduations (pk) and graduation announcements (non-pk) today. There just must be something about November 30. Thanks for launching your channel with so many heavy-hitting videos! Your newest one is especially buttery! 😜

It's a bit scary because it's always uncertain if a vtuber that graduates will resurface later. It's a lot more common nowadays for them to resurface, but there's always the thought in the back of the mind that perhaps they're done and they aren't coming back.

Yeah it stings every time :c One of the idol girls I mentioned in the video left the industry permanently and fans only got to see a glimpse of her after a decade or so and it was just a picture of her attending her genmate's solo concert OTL I'm glad she's doing well though

That separation of character and person is a big reason why graduations for vtubers aren't just part of a resume like J-pop idols. I know a number of small corpos (or even medium to big ones, up to Vshojo) allow existing vtubers to join in their current identity and leave with it (or debut for the first time there and then leave with the identity/channel). In those cases it is a lot more similar to irl idols. Whereas for major corpos (or many smaller ones who follow their example) reincarnations are necessitated. And even with the past life taboo dying and a lot of identities being open secrets it is still a different name and channel. And a lot of the time vtubers (especially this type) don't reveal their real names or faces (anonimity is part of draw of vtubing). So while multiple identities may be part of the same person's career that person will still be an unknown and it would be multiple vtubers with separate careers. Even if most people know that they are the same person.

What happens to the rest of Agency Vtubers when an Agency shuts down before their individual graduation? It depends what the Agency do, either keep their IP Models & forever in dark or let their streamers each keep those models & lived as indies. Like "Production Kawaii" & "Prism Project"
