Bullshit. There are certain physiological characteristics common to all humans, starting with the nutrients required to sustain life. Yes, I do claim you're lying. I do claim you would rather eat meat than go through the hassle of eating a healthy plant-based diet. Lie to yourself, but don't lie to someone who knows better.. like this woman in the vid, you tried a fad, to be "cool", and found out it was too much trouble to maintain. I know your ilk in my soul. See, I watch you and those like you, making your puny excuses pretty much daily. You could have gone to a vegan doctor....but you didn't want to, did you? Because they wouldn't have bought your bullshit narrative. And it IS bullshit.

@ Lowell Calavera, so you clearly are so far deep in this cult that you have lost all rationale thought. I know your type due to unfortunately being raised in a cult myself. Listen stay in your deterioration cult and die for non human animals if you choose to go that far. But can you leave the individuals that no longer choose to suffer alone please?? And in response to your comment about seeing vegan doctors. Many ex vegans saw vegan doctors and followed their advice just to find out that it didn’t work🤣🤣 So what advice would you give the vegans who are suffering tremendously even after seeking help from your vegan God doctors?? To die for the animals that won’t die for you?? Totally irrational and so removed from nature you are…very sad

@@pjewellful You don’t need meat to servive😂I tried the keto all meat low carb fruit and it wrecked my arteries and made me sick. I chose a whole food plant based diet for my health not thinking about the animals but it was a bonus. I get all the protein and good carbs my body need. Things like beans and sweet potatoes and brown rice fill you up and you don’t feel hungry along with smoothie’s. I guarantee these people fill their mouth with processed vegan frozen shit with fake meat and soy. This is why they fail and make themselves sick……It’s not the food it’s them. Trust me I loved meat but I had to stop it for my health.

I was vegan for about 1.5 yrs and it very quickly made me diabetic. My A1C went from 5.7 to 7. I was attempting the whole foods plant based and I was eating way to many carbs for my body to tolerate. My big source of protien was beans and apparently my body did not like this. It was good for a little while but I was also trying to work towards better blood pressure and weight loss. I lost about 40 pounds but after a While it stopped and started to creep back up. My blood pressure did not change. It got worse. And I was hungry all the time! I found myself eating a lot of beans rice and potatos cause it was more satisfying than greens and fruits. And I also ate the fake meats cause sometimes having the starches did not help. I was constantly hungry and every meal was huge. Being vegan made me feel like I was out of control and as if I had a eating disorder cause I constantly needed to eat. Around my period I was especially hungry and I craved chicken. I later read that it was probably due to low iron because the female body is losing blood and other nutrition during that time. And my periods were very very heavy and long. When I stopped my periods became 4 days and much much lighter. I also no longer feel out of control when eating. A lot of my constant cravings for carbs stopped. Also I stayed bloated from eating beans and my stomach feels so much better not eating beans and grains. I was convinced that it was meat that was making me feel sick. So it was very scary to go back. But one day I think my body got so desperate that I ended up eating a cheese burger and I was so guilty about it but it made me feel much better. I started questioning why this burger full of fat made me satisfied and gave me more energy. After that I started learning about seed oils and grains and stuff making people sick and realized that was a big part of my problem. A lot of vegan doctors kept saying eat high carb and that the body gets use to eating a lot of beans as protien but my body never did. Having relief from that constant bloating was so nice.

I find a pescatarian is a good balance that I’m comfortable with. It allows me to eat energy dense foods and only eat 3 times a day and feel satiated. I’ve been pescatarian since I was 15 and I’m now 43. It depends how you feel about fish and your comfort level. My main, and favourite protein sources are eggs, lactose free milk, tinned sardines, tinned wild salmon and whey protein. I totally get why some people don’t want to eat meat and this diet is a bit of an “in between”.

Couldn’t agree more Olive, very open, honest and interesting video, thanks for sharing. Especially think the message you have at the end was super important, where veganism isn’t the solution the world’s food problems - a real gripe I had with the message that Seaspiracy was trying to convey too! If the whole world’s population starts eating only plants, do we have enough land to grow that on and sustain that? I think that any type of food can be fine as long as it’s reared/grown well; like you say. V important I think for people to be aware of this and question where their food is coming from :) thanks for sharing and sorry for veering off a bit there, but really resonated with everything you shared ❤️xx

Awesome video, well said. I am going through a similar experience right now. I stopped being vegan 6 weeks ago. I had a health scare earlier this year which forced me to look at my vegan diet closely. I was hospitalized and diagnosed with digestive issues. I had to stop eating all legumes, wheat and gas inducing veg. I am now gluten intolerant. I was left eating soy foods as the biggest veg protein source with very limited with options. After 4 months of eating veg + soy I decided something had to change as I wasn't feeling well. I am now a pescatarian. I feel SO MUCH better. I am in complete agreement, everyone is different. No one diet fits everyone. We are all very different. I respect vegans and their choices, but it's wrong to promote veganism as a one diet for all approach.

@@mihaelapopinciuc5425 Studies have shown that kids raised until age 6 or 7 on a vegan diet are still B12 deficient years after adding at least some animal products to their diet. Thank you for sharing your story! I was vegan for over 20 years, and before that I was lacto-ovo vegetarian for 10 years. I also have a very long history of an eating disorder, which almost killed me; thankfully and joyfully I have been in recovery for over 15 years now. My recovery was a very long process, over many years, and I am so grateful to be free of bondage to food and exercise! I had many health problems over my years of veganism, which I never wanted to attribute to my diet. I was always very careful to eat healthfully (very few processed foods, and took supplements), and I truly didn't feel I was missing out on any nutrients. But 2 years ago, my health became so poor that I began to question if I needed to change my diet. It was an extremely difficult decision to make, but in the end I decided to begin introducing some animal foods into my diet, to see if I would feel better. The first animal product I tried were eggs, and I fully expected to have digestive problems from it, but I didn't. Then I tried some wild caught fish, and again my digestion was fine. I also expected to feel incredibly guilty, and to cry hysterically when eating animal products for the 1st time in 30 years, but I didn't. I think this is because I was following what my instincts and my body were telling me, and I knew it was the best decision for me. I told myself that it was just an experiment, and if I didn't feel any better, I could always go back to being vegan. It's been about 1 1/2 years now since I began eating as an omnivore again, and I am feeling much better, physically as well as mentally. Even though I have been in recovery from the eating disorder for a long time, I have now experienced an even deeper "letting go" of the power of food over me. I feel completely free! I unfortunately have some lingering health issues which might be permanent. I suffer from neuropathy (nerve pain) in my feet and legs, which I believe was caused by B12 deficiency. I was always careful to supplement my B12 as a vegan, but I understand now that supplements are not the same as getting nutrients from food. It is a very debilitating condition, and I hope that someday it will get better, but it might not. I do still eat lots of veggies, and healthy grains, and beans, but I do include animal foods in my daily diet. I have organic dairy daily, and throughout my week for some meals I have organic eggs, grass-fed meat, and wild caught fish. I probably would eat more of these, but affordability is an issue. I won't eat animal products unless they are organic and responsibly sourced, so these can expensive. Anyway, thank you Olive for sharing your story! Sorry my post is so long, but you really inspired me to share my own journey.

Thanks for sharing your story ! I agree that every person needs to find their diet that suits them best for their body/lifestyle. I personally feel like there are extremes both ways - no animal products or people who eat for example meat with almost every meal. For me I decided to cut meat from my diet except for special occasions. I think to save the planet/environment reducing the meat consumption is important but no one should be shamed for eating what they need to be healthy/happy ❤️

Thank you for watching! Yeah extremes on either end can be tricky to navigate for sure! I think we can all be more conscious about what we eat, but you’re right, no one should be shamed! There’s enough guilt as it is we put on ourselves with eating and don’t need it from others too! 🤍

I so want to address your opinion regarding the issue of planet/environment and the idea that reducing meat consumption would assist as I have spent so much time going through research on the topic but everything I wrote was erased by some automatic KZbin thingy because I included lots of link to research and I can't post links so I guess the only thing I can say is that I believe you are wrong. Telling you why that ubiquitous rumor would take a lot of words and time and probably wouldn't take in a KZbin comment section. Even giving the names of journals and studies seems to result in posts getting erased. It is a bit frustrating.

@johnbennett7407
@johnbennett7407 Жыл бұрын
@@luciarehermann7921 yes that might work. From memory I believe a lot of that stuff was covered in the KZbin Gamechangers debunked: (the film) just the science. There are a few aspects to it. One is the effect of holistic farming whether it be having a carbon reducing footprint or whether it be improving soil in a way that mimics nature and greening the planet. Alan Savory has an awesome KZbin called How to green the world's deserts and reverse climate change. There is also the fact that on EPA figures medical emissions are significantly more than animal agriculture. By depriving people of nutritious food and driving up medical care emissions have the potential to have a greater impact on climate change than leaving things alone. What I will just talk about here is the idea that cow's burps are a greenhouse disaster. My angle on it is that if we reduce animal farming there will be less manure based fertilizer available and more need to for crop production and possibly more legume production. Artificial fertilizers and legume production result in nitrous oxide. Methane is part of a natural cycle. Ruminants play an important role in the food chain by converting plant materials to nutritious food for omnivores and carnivores and always have while improving vegetation and soil as they go along. By contrast a nitrous oxide molecule has 298 times the global warming potential of a carbon dioxide molecule and could have a big impact very rapidly. My other thing is a suspicion that the fossil fuel industry puts some of its megabucks behind the idea that eating meat is the problem as a smokescreen to hide their role as the major contributor. Also, food wastage is primarily a big issue with plant foods. This is mitigated to a degree by feeding some plant foods or their byproducts to animals. If more plant food was needed and the same rate of wastage applied without any mitigation by using any for animal food it couldn't be a good thing. I'll try the more research based approach in a separate post. Just hoping to get something through to give you something to work with.

You articulated all of this so well!!! I was vegan for 7 years, and I still mostly am aside from eating a small amount of fish occasionally. I reintroduced this around 4 months ago, after going on holiday and deciding to eat some of the traditional local food. And as much as it tasted great, I really felt my body was getting something from it !!! While I'm still mostly vegan, and it feels right for me, I think it's so important to encourage people to find what's best for them. There are so many different diets in so many cultures in the world that it makes sense that different things work for different people. For me, I feel like being vegan helped heal my relationship with food as I love vegan cooking and working with different plants, but I have heard from so many people who share your experience and I think it's important for people to understand that it's okay if it doesn't work for them, and no one should judge any one else's personal relationship with food. Sorry for the rambly response lol but I really enjoyed the video!!! :)

Big respect to you for stepping away from toxicity and prioritizing your own health. In my eyes diet and nutrition are the same as fitness - a continuous dynamic process which should be experimented with and adapted throughout your life to achieve as much enjoyment and nourishment as possible. One size certainly doesn't fit all, and if you overthink it you'll trip up and hurt yourself! I'm currently 95% wholefood plant based (If I want an ice cream when I go to the beach and dairy is the only option, I'll still have a fucking ice cream). I haven't eaten any meat for over 3 years now and personally feel better for it overall, both physically and mentally. The social side can be a challenge but I strangely came across very similar social challenges when I gave up smoking. It also helps having an Indian wife who performs plant based magic in the kitchen! :)

Thank you sooo much for sharing your story. I relate so much to this! It’s sad and disheartening to feel so much shame around what we eat. What we eat is such a personal thing and there shouldn’t be judgement around peoples choices. Yes you may eat meat but you may be doing more for the environment than some other “vegans” in terms of activism and advocating for sustainability. And also the amount of worry that is relieved from not being vegan and worry about being the “perfect” vegan. Also personally I think food waste is such an issue. It would be better to make use of things, not necessarily increasing demand but just eating foods that may be going off or would otherwise be adding to landfill, also this could save money. Personally I love going to the reduced section in supermarkets because the food is normally perfectly fine and I always feel so guilty seeing so much food go to waste when there are millions of people starving. Every person should have access to nutritious food and water.

@johnbennett7407
@johnbennett7407 Жыл бұрын
Both are very nutritious but the vegan bosses don't allow either. The line is drawn at anything animal related. Sentience is just a rhetorical recruiting tool because it is a term not often used. Most people only encounter it on Star Trek where it is used to describe human-like beings so they don't have a dictionary definition concept. Therefore describing an animal as sentient is just like describing a cup as a chalice. It gives the aura of something more special.

Get your logical mind to tell your emotional mind that it is confusing someone with something. People are animals but animals are not people (and the most people like animals we either keep as pets or keep in a zoo - we don't eat them). Stay away from Disney movies where animals are people. Realise that mental health issues like depression are much more prevalent among vegans and vegetarians and not eating meat could well be the reason you feel so bad. Focus on what is good for you not on how Disney movies make you relate to animals.

Thanks for this video! My partner has been experiencing similar symptoms, really bad fatigue, aches and pains, feeling lethargic and unsustained with a mainly vegan diet; he went veggie two years ago and I was a really strict vegan for around 5 years, but I think my partner has now decided that he needs some animal protein, so chicken, fish, maybe red meat too (he also had dreams about eating meat! aha) and I will of course support him in that as I can see how bad his fatigue and general wellbeing is. I now eat eggs if they are ethically sourced and also some goats cheese (I find cow based dairy products really don't agree with me personally). It is a major recruiting trick that the people who make all the money from veganism use. They have coined the term "ethical veganism" which basically means that emulating a certain German dictator from last century's attitude toward animals makes you a more ethical person. That is enormously appealing to the least ethical people as it seems much easier to be compassionate to anonymous animals that they never have to deal with then to treat other people ethically. Then they can go around virtue signalling their newfound superior 'ethics' while continuing to be a jerk.

Veganism is a whole different kettle of fish to a regular fad diet. In fact vegans can take offence if you describe it as a diet. Just like a certain 20th Century German dictator they believe that you shouldn't eat meat or animal products or experiment on animals. They believe that refraining from doing so automatically makes you a more ethical person even if you aren't otherwise more ethical. That is a huge trap for unethical people as they can feel good about themselves without improving their general behaviour. Then there is the belief (debunked by science) passed down from the Seventh Day Adventist that a plant based diet is healthier. This got more prominence than it deserved as they set up the largest (and hence most influential) nutritional organization in the world the American Academy of Dietetics together with huge food companies like Sanitarium and a bunch of Universities for supporting research. It has gained traction in recent times as plant production is more profitable. Then there is the environmental side of things. A UN paper called "Lifestock's Long Shadow" many years ago grossly overestimated the GHG contribution of animal agriculture. Even though even the lead author realized it was mistaken and recanted it has created a ubiquitous perception that plant agriculture is better environmentally. It doesn't help that people overlook the fact that nitrous oxide molecule has 298 times the global warming potential of a carbon dioxide molecule and removing animal agriculture would mean an increase in artificial fertilizers and likely legume production which both produce nitrous oxide. It also doesn't help that this would probably be in conjunction with increased crop production to replace the animal products and that the fossil fuels used for farm machinery like harvesters and tractors and transporting plant products across the world are not accounted for when looking at the carbon footprint of plant production and that methane produced by ruminants is part of a natural cycle or that monocropping can produce dust bowls due to tillage and the use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides destroying the crucial microbiome in the soil. Regenerative agriculture is definitely the most green approach but the ubiquitous belief (probably promulgated with funding from fossil fuel companies) is that meat production is the problem. If that isn't a perfect enough storm there are vegan influencers who become tycoons by being street preachers and making KZbins. Converts admire and donate to them.They become just as polished as religious street preachers but many are dodgy AF with backgrounds like acting school or prison. They don't hesitate to lie or mislead to win an argument. They even say that a cow dies for someone's 15 minute meal when in fact a cow will feed an adult for about 3 years. Or they will say to someone in the UK or US of A or Australia that the Amazon rainforest is the lungs of the planet and it is getting destroyed by clearing land for cattle so go vegan to stop it. In reality almost all the meat exported from that production goes to China with a little to the Middle East and a tiny proportion to South East Asia. Like I said dodgy AF.

As you said you tried a lot of things to make it work better over some years already but as you still had this eating disorder messing things up with your body and your mind in the first place, many issues could also be related to that much more than veganism.. and even if you tried many things, solving this first could also be the main thing that makes a vegan/vegetarian diet works for you. It's really hard to know what was the cause of each symptoms. I think it's interesting to think about what you've been through and the connections with the eating disorders you had. As you said, feeling "restricted" by veganism might have been something complicated to work around this restrictive disorder. You had a bad start with this diet and then a bad evolution with your toxic boyfriend pushing you in bad directing with this annoying activist attitude and putting pressure on you.. which probably put everything in a really difficult way, bringing many bad feelings around that topic, making everything even more challenging mentally from the beginning and also along the way. If you feel bad about the way you eat, no matter the diet you have, I think you won't be able to feel satiated and satisfied any way. But the type of nutrinents intake are probably not the main issue here. If you see your diet as something beneficial for you and are still able to exchange with people in a good way, you probably don't feel like a "difficult" person who is an issue for others. Intolerance or allergies are accepted in this society and then we find ways to work around it.. It could be the same with others types of diets but it's more about knowledges from the people cooking than people being "difficult" only.. "Wasting" time in a kitchen is not related to veganism. You can spend time in a kitchen for many different diets simply depending on the way you cook and how various and fancy your meals are as well. If cooking is a pleasure it doesn't feel like wasting time. But you can also cook in a fast way being vegan. I completely understand the switch you needed and why you had to quit veganism regarding all the troubles you had at that time but I also feel like this diet didn't work for you at that moment, which doesnt means this diet doesn't work for you at all. I feel like many people having issues with diet changes tend to put the blame on the diet while many other parameters are part of the equation. The way you step into the diet is probably the issue as well in many cases more than the diet itself. Thanks for sharing your experience !

I eat everything now. But it was a slow process. I did it backwards from most, started overnight from meat eater to strict vegan and was vegan for 6 years. Then added back eggs and dairy (mostly Greek yogurt) for six months, then fish and called myself pescetarian for another five years. Last year I added back turkey and chicken, and finally took the plunge and added back some red meat, albeit usually once per week on average for that. My husband's family hunt and they give us venison that will last us all winter and I have been eating that on occasion.

the people and elderly in blue zone like italy and those in south indian countryside have a moderate of diary, meat and legumes and pulses and theyre really healthy . Also diary is so fresh there that it may not be necessary for you to force yourself to be vegan(caused by the standard american diet) here the syrian chrsitians do a vegan fasting but only for detox and not a propaganda type of thing(like a 365 day thing) along with food its lifestyle and compassion not only to animals but also to your genuine friends and colleagues. you can find spirituality even by being a meat eater i tried a vegan dressing like cashew sauce in place of dairy by a vegan nutritionist just callme flora(oshe was sweet and was not radical) but i felt so bad trying it out . I FELT SO BAD IN A STOMACH AND I JUST TOOK A TASTE WHILE COOKING IT. TASTE WAS GOOD BUT MY BODY REACTED BAD. I DID SOME TESTING ON THE CASHEWS BUT THEY WERE HYGIEN ALSO BBC SAID IT HAD BENEFITS. IT MADE ME THINK THAT KZbin AND MAINSTREAM NEWS MEDIA CAN BE TRIGGERING AND JUST ONE SIDED i do take gap between meat eating days(WAITING FOR A DAY TO HAVE AN ORGANIC MEAT INDUSTRY) and do use some vegan options(but i dont necessarily need a vegan labelling on that food item and a bit of milk solid allergen is fine for me). each person is different thank you for this youre very brave

I hate to see people suffer and I'm sorry that you did but I listened to your story with interest and it does confirm what I've thought for years. That is, if you get ill being vegan, it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with being vegan, it means there's something wrong with you. As you said, you had an existing condition. That evidently made it harder to be healthy as a vegan but if you were eating calorie dense meals but weren't feeling satiated, what was missing? Meat? Your body doesn't need meat so it must have been psychological, an effect of your disorder, perhaps. There's not much difference between a sensible vegan diet and a sensible omni diet. Mostly, it's about having a meat sustitute instead of meat or simply having more potato/ broccoli/ kale or whatever. You mention the likes of Freelee and Durianrider and how irresponsible they are and I'm inclined to agree. I think you've been irresponsible for implying that a philosophy such as veganism was the cause of such things as your hair falling out. To equate vegan food with the chemical imbalance caused by hormonal implants is somewhat disingenuous, too. Animals suffer a great deal beacuse we catch, farm, eat and wear them. We don't need to do any of those things. Your story doesn't change that.

Which obviously is different for everyone. And she also never calls anyone fat. She always says no one IS fat, they just have excess fat or are carrying excess fat. Which I suppose depending how sensitive people are to the word that may be interpreted in a different way (That isn’t to say I agree with her diet and videos )

Interesting video. It seems like you correlate the vegan diet with a difficult period of your life so I'm not surprised it felt good to move away from that. I do think it's unfair to state veganism as a reason for your hair loss & anemia, when this was quite clearly the brunt of other issues. Regarding your vegan friends having negative reactions towards your diet change, I presume, stems from a feeling of deceit...I'm sure you have had (maybe passionate) conversations with them about farming industries/animal welfare/spiritual beliefs etc and then to suddenly say well no those arent my beliefs any more can be quite disheartening. Nevertheless, thanks for sharing your experience..I'm sure people can relate with it. Maybe one day you'll post a video called 'the truth about why I turned vegan again!' ..I can only hope 😀 x

Thanks for watching. I mean yes, my experience with veganism was during a difficult time for sure. I never explicitly stated that veganism caused my hair loss and anemia - I said it helped cause it along with so many other variables (the contraceptive implant / eating disorder). I understand where you’re coming from with the deceit. When a belief system is challenged and those beliefs / values are so intrinsically linked to an identity - veganism - I understand it’s hard to not take personally. My main point was that those individuals failed to understand and be compassionate to my lives experience and were discounting the real mental and physical struggles I was enduring for the sake of propping up their own ego and superiority complex based on these beliefs. I don’t need that kind of toxic mentality in my life, those who can’t empathise and instead judge. Thanks for sharing your opinions and thoughts x

Sorry you are having a tough journey. IMO, anyone with pre-existing health issues should have seen a plant based specialist to help navigate their journey into veganism. Following a specialist diet such as Freelee's can yield results - but is more difficult to get right. That didn't happen with you and you went downhill from thereon. There are obviously a lot of mental challenges you have had - needing to feel part of a group being just one. So any solution needs to address this as well, again, imo. There is nothing inherently wrong with going vegan. Rather I think you hoped it was going to be some kind of panacea, and that is nearly always going to fail. You need some stability to recover your mental faculties. Hopefully yoga will help. After that if you want advice on selecting a plant-based professional to help you then just ask.

Judging from the comments, people don't seem to be aware of this and you're hearting their comments. I assume you know this, but veganism is a justice and animal rights issue, it's about transparency and fairness in the food system. It's about how we, as consumers, can help shape the market.
