I'm looking forward to this one I'm from south Africa, where we have massive communitylies of squatter camps, each fitted with cable TV with brand new cars parked outside the shacks many of them were born there and grow up but never leave because it's comfortable it's what they have known their whole lives I feel the samr applies to the homeless

To answer your question, in the words of NF "hand outs create lazy people" education is the only answer remove all children living with their parents on the street and place them in homes/foster care

Thank you for sharing this important topic. I was a pregnant homeless teenager for years, starting at age 14. During those times, my dad was gone and my mom’s drug addiction overtook her. I praise God for His salvation at age 19! He began to do a great work in my life as I trusted Him. My son is now 27 years old and a homeowner. And I am a first -gen college student to become a licensed mental health counselor. I praise God that my mom got clean and she is back in our lives. I am so grateful for God’s love and for people helping the unhoused and insecurely housed to overcome these obstacles and to break generational chains! Thank you Crae for your music that has seen me through the years and for the work you continue to do. So proud of you man!

Nothing makes me angrier than to hear someone say, "They need to get a job! They're just lazy!" Or when they compare panhandlers to those who are legit struggling. We don't know that person's story and we could EASILY end up in that position. So glad yall had a conversation about this!

Thanks Lecrae for having Dr. Lester. Being unhoused is an eye opener. I watched this video and learned so much about myself and how I have stereotyped this population. One thing to keep in mind is how Jesus lives amongst those that were living in poverty or were considered less than by society. I pray that we all learned something from this podcast that we can serve God's people with. Blessings everyone!

It's crazy! I was homeless multiple times. I was helping my family in different states. At that time in my life, I would rather me be on the streets then they, one a parent, the other a sibling. I've always held down a job, never on drugs or anything. Sometimes it's also the people that you are attached to your heart. You have to be careful.

I’m really glad y’all are talking about this subject. When I lived in Dallas, I became homeless at the age of 15 after my dad was deported. My cousin’s boyfriend kicked me out. I had no choice but to house hop. I had an uncle reprimand me for because I was house hopping. I was so confused by that. I had no idea what to do. I was on my own without my parents. All I could think about was to make it to the next day. I was in survival mode at that time. By the Grace of God, I made it out of that situation, and I now get the opportunity to invest in others.

As someone who was born into Law Enforcement and the Amercian church, it has taken (and is still taking) time to figure out and discover what is God's truth versus what is humanities' truth. I've unfortunately been exposed to hate and selfishness in the church and to fear and judgement in law enforcement. I believe in a God who loves all His children and who yearns for His children to love one another! If people, who say they love God, turn around and say "oh, I can't help them (homeless individuals) cause there just on drugs or they're looking to panhandle or they're dangerous and you need to watch out for yourself.", then I agree with you Lecrae! They don't serve the same God as us! I have been struggling for a while now on the internal confliction around serving the homeless. Having all these external opinions thrown at me yelling in my ears, only just confuses and frustrates me, but your discussion could not have been closer to the truth! We should love them and care for them, and not judge them! Because these are children of God and His beloved! We don't know their hurt and pain; they are human beings who need love and community and to know the goodness and grace of God. We should see them as brothers and sisters in Christ and our hearts should break for their pain and trauma! Just as God's heart breaks for the brokenness in this world, so should ours! We're not in line with God's priorities if our hearts are not breaking when his children are hurt and wronged. This is a beautiful reminder to love God in our hearts, minds, souls, and our actions and to love others as ourselves! Thank you so much for being bold and sharing the good news of Christ! I have always felt encouraged and uplifted by God's work in you and in the other 116 crew members! I love what you all are doing and how obedient you are in your faith! Thank you so much for everything you do and for spreading light and encouragement in a dark and hateful world! Thank you for helping a young lost girl know that she is beautiful, she is loved, she is seen and known, and she is precious in the fathers' eyes! It means the world to me! Keep going!!

I feel everyone needs to watch this. People don’t look like it always but I was homeless, twice. One because I was broken as a kid and kicked out instead of having family support. We had no local family. Another because I was in an abusive relationship losing my corporate job from it then shortly lost everything else after in a head on collision accident. Now I am an insurance agent and small business owner while writing a book about how my trials introduced me to Jesus which completely changed my mind and life. Ultimately going to produce movies.

I think what's sad is how a lot of people have been desensitized by people *claiming* to be homeless or in need. I've had 2 exes (apparently I have a type 🤦🏽‍♀️) who've directly witnessed "homeless" women & children in one instance (a man experiencing homelessness in another) who got out of their clean bmw SUV that the hubs was driving, & took their unkempt-looking selves & stood at a distant corner asking for change. The "homeless" man had been outside for 8+ hrs, & my other ex happened to be heading back home frm work when he saw the guy round a corner only to get into a brand-new looking car & zoom off. The woman & kids eventually returned to the suv & headed home. (it was assumed.) Since it was the weekend, my ex was like, they spent a whole Saturday begging in order to receive free $$ to pay their light bill or car insurance, b/c w/ the car they drove theyre obviously doing fine. Now, I grew up in NY, the Bronx, so Ive seen TRUE homelessness front & center. But, i do wonder how many believe people begging on the street arent actually in need... My personal biases before this vid were that the homeless were either drunkards, ex-military, drug addicts, or teens who ran from home (many in the city). My dad taught me that if you cant give change (no more than $1 or 2), give em food. If they turn up their nose at food & make it clear that theyd prefer the $$, theyre not genuinely in need. I remember he offered to get someone something frm the bodega & they were like nah, im good & my dad said "see? That guy just wanted drugs or alcohol." Last thing, cuz im obvio rambling, my church in Gainesville, GA, Free Chapel used to & still does give boxes of food to ppl every Wednesday night. Most drove up in their cars, but i remember some walked down for that free food. All they needed was their ID & to register for it. Didnt have to be a church member. Could be homeless, could live in a mansion. They also support No Longer Bound for women & children & men who are homeless/drug addicts, etc. So there's still hope for churches

This is great. I have some insight on when you were saying that you don't know what version of God these churches who shoo away homeless people are following. I think a lot of it comes from these verses: “For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.” ‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬-‭12‬ ‭ESV‬‬ How would you say this applies to homeless/jobless people? A very common idea that I hear is that continually giving something to someone for free takes away that person's dignity and humanity because people are supposed to work for their living.

I agree with the sentiment that home means belonging-so why the use of the word unhoused? Isn’t it more profound to say homeless? A home is always a house, but a house isn’t always a home. My 2¢.

I really appreciate hearing this guy's thoughts and wisdom. I do have a question regarding the safety of people wandering around and living wherever they want. My friend lived on the edge of a golf course and a homeless camp developed in the small strip of woods between the two properties. He called the police to ask them to clear out the area, but the police ignored him. A few days later, a homeless man from the camp raped and murdered a girl who was golfing by herself. The next day, the cops cleared out the camp. What do you think should have been done in that situation? It has scarred my friend for life and given him survivors guilt.

We keep putting a bandaid on the issue instead of curing the issue. Gas is high. Food is high and lets not forget how rent and property taxes being high as heck. This country (USA) is creating homelessness. Our government need to stop sending money to other countries and help your own first.

(I watched the video earlier today, so forgive me if I'm remembering what you said incorrectly, but I remember you saying that Mary and Joseph were displaced and homeless) It isn't true to say that Joseph and Mary were displaced and homeless. They were traveling and there wasn't any room because everybody was traveling at the same time. They still had a house, they just weren't in it for a while, so comparing them to refugees or impoverished homeless people is inaccurate and misleading.
