Hi Kati! Thanks so much for the video! I watched the whole thing and took notes! Something I was thinking about when it came to someone who doesn't like change is that sometimes it may have to do with how we were raised or our childhood. Some people may be exposed to different challenges or experiences that bring about change that others may not experience, but that may lead to trauma. I like what you said about autism. I work with special needs, and I have never been diagnosed with autism, I not only find the need to prepare my students, but I feel like I need to prepare myself throughout the day. I've been struggling with a lot of anxiety in the recent years, and I feel the need to prepare myself for new situations and many conversations. I'm not sure who else can relate!

I feel like this topic was made for me. I guess most people would say that I am at a crossroads in life, but to me it feels more like a dead end. I'm 35 and not getting anywhere in life. Trying to decide whether or not to make a career transition that would totally transform my life. I don't want to change, but I can't go on this way. Hoping to find some way out of the mess I've made of my life.

If you want to get an advice from a stranger (who doesn't mean to hurt you) - the do the transition and try to get through the first two months of the change. 1) you need movement in your life 2) trying is the only way to see if things are working 3) but trying takes some time - and I recommend trying for at least those two months Wish you pleasant time

In case you were unaware, research suggests we autistic folks, myself included plus the many autistic content creators on YT and autistic clinicians and educators, prefer *identity first language*. Using person first language is not trauma informed or neurodivergent affirming and supports a deficit-based approach to understanding autistic lived experience. We don’t have a disease and when clinicians use language that implies we do, it keeps outdated harmful misconceptions alive. I am not “a person with autism” or someone who “has autism”. We don’t say “people with deafness” or “people who are blind,” we say deaf person, the deaf community, blind person. That’s because those communities prefer it that way as it speaks to the way _they_ experience the world, not the way others experience them in the world. The autistic community deserves the same respect and dignity. Clinicians mean well, but you’re a product of the education and training you receive that largely supports and maintains systemic ableism, in large part, due to the sociohistorical origins of psychology that, for example, supported eugenics. Or how about the fact that they don’t teach you that the high/low functioning labels often used by clinicians to describe autistic folks experiences was developed by Nazi scientists to help concentration camps decide if a disabled person was high functioning enough to work vs. categorized as low functioning and thus sent to the incinerator. The DSM infantilizes autistic people and describes our experiences as symptoms as if we have a disease when in actuality our brains function differently than non-autistic folks according to the current researcher literature and contemporary experts in the study of autism. Consider what it feels like to know someone needs to remind themselves you’re a person first as if something about you makes it harder for them to remember you are indeed human just like them. It feels dehumanizing when you’re on the receiving end. If someone needs a reminder that I’m also a person, that’s says a lot more about their *internalized ableism* and the work they need to do to unpack that implicit bias.
