Two things that are truly making me rage about the politics in this game: 1) Gender affirming surgery including top surgery WITHOUT SCARS is canonically available in Tevinter - the city the game is set in. The ONLY reason the scars are even viable in the creator is because the devs REMOVED the schools of magic canonically used to perform the surgeries (blood magic and spirit healing). The only instances of these schools of magic in this game are "true evil" and therefore not usable by good characters (per the devs in the first couple of Q&A's). The canonical existence and method for the procedures are described in detail in DA:I by TWO CHARACTERS and in the lore entries. IF scars are in the game to accommodate the lore changes why is it not with all the other scars including a dozen or so scarification patterns and other types of scarring?? The only logical conclusion I can come to is that the whole thing is a deliberate retcon and prominent placement in the front character creation screen to spark outrage. 2) By all the current BioWare rhetoric, I'm THE example of their target market - fat, queer, nonbinary, purple hair, advocacy volunteer in two organisations, and working in mental health and social work. So I was baffled with the response when I mentioned the issues I had with the tokenistic feel of the character creator, the lack of care for accessibility with all the migraine/motion sickness/epilepsy triggers with the use of colour saturation, flare, bloom and particle effects. Why was I dog piled by all the people professing to be "social justice activists" and Bioware employees and "community panel ambassadors"? WHY was THE ONLY comments section I have NOT been misgendered, ragged on for my looks, called a bigot, and dog piled in comments was - wait for it - Asmongold's comments section. Fucking Asmongold... The dude widely considered to be owner of one of the most toxic followings on this platform. Don't get me wrong, I'm very twitchy around his account because I DON'T agree with a lot of his vids.... but I find it EXTREMELY ironic that his comments sections are the ONLY place I haven't been abused and bullied from the comments section and in my DM's over questioning why 'inclusivity' in this game feels like EXCLUSION. I can honestly say for my own experience - which I admit is just MY experience - Yes, I would like my body represented... the fat body with big boobs that carried me through years of half marathons, medieval sword fighting reenactment in full armor, abseiling, fusion dance and blacksmithing. My body was perfectly capable of being fat and heroic so yes, I WANT that body represented... which it is NOT possible in this game. What I do NOT want is tokenistic statements on the front page. I don't want labels of "body inclusivity" that is NOT inclusive of my body. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised by the OPTION for any sex/gender/voice/body/scarring/pronoun combination *in the relevant menus where they belong* . I don't want it rammed down my throat like an obligation to use them. I want my characters to be my choice, I don't want to feel like I have to make a fucking statement every time I roll up a character. BG3 did it right. ANY character could pick from a list of 'voice 1, 2, 3, etc'., genitalia 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., gender 1, 2, 3, 4., scar 1,2,3,4 etc. NOTHING was labelled, it was just "pick the combination you want and have fun. THAT was an absolute blast for me. I could truly create a character how I wanted without having to deal with political or gendered BS (and I mean BS from BOTH sides of the argument). I'm a grown assed adult who's pushing 50. Maybe it IS that I'm just considered "too old for the modern audience "tm... but I just want to play a fucking video game. My life has been shit enough, without cosplaying the worst parts in a video game.

Straight women have four. - Straight males get Cassandra and Josephine. - Gay males get Dorian and Iron Bull. - Straight women get Solas, Blackwall, Iron Bull, and Cullen. - Gay women get Sera and Josephine. Cassandra is easily the best romance in the game, but regardless, all the romances in DAI are pretty lackluster. Claiming gay inquisitors have this whole slew of options when there are only two respective gay/lesbian romances in the game is silly.

I think heterosexuality is extremely prevalent in video games as character creation options and in content. Though Cyberpunk by its setting allows gender fluidity you can choose for your character to engage in heterosexual activity and the same again is true for BG3. I don't think people care about the inclusion of top surgery scars directly. The presence of this kind of inclusive feature isn't an issue in itself; rather, it suggests that a game, movie, book, or adaptation has been developed with certain set of contemporary political issues at the forefront, rather than as a genuine piece of art. This style of production has become all too familiar in the past 15 years, and many people are tired of it and find it lacking. I expect that the political pandering will seep into the story of the game, likely watering down the experience-especially as time passes and these contemporary political issues evolve. While this is a personal preference, I believe many people would agree, particularly in the realm of fantasy and escapism.
@TaddiestMasonАй бұрын
i think everyone inherently understands top surgery scars don't make sense in a world with magic cause you would just use the magic to transition. we only have the scars now cause magic isn't real and the technology to actually transition doesn't exist yet-the best options are body modification surgery like top surgery. maybe one day the tech will be there, but to force this kind of nonsense into a fictional setting like a magical fantasy realm is immediately offputting to anyone even so much as giving it a passing glance. it's very obviously out of place and strange to include.

Well thought out and, despite being 33 minutes long, engaging. You made good points, and I agree with them all except one; they don't make these games or this content or make their arguments *FOR* anyone. They aren't doing it to support anyone, they only wish to exclude and destroy. I think that's a mistake we all have made; we think that the people behind this stuff think like we do. We would make things *FOR* a customer, not to exclude people. For instance, if I make a skateboard, I don't make to exclude people without legs. I make it so that anyone can buy one, and hopefully they will enjoy it and come back to buy more. The way these people do business and make things is they purposefully go out of their way to make a useless thing that one demographic will hate, and they don't really care if anyone buys it because money and business and reputation are all relative. They want that legless customer to hate what they've made, and they don't ever want that legless customer to buy their product. They'd prefer to throw that legless customer off a cliff, but that isn't legal (yet) so they will settle for cancelation, ostracization, bullying, and slander. Oh, and making a skateboard that specifically makes it impossible to own it unless you have legs. Down with the legless-riarchy. Or something. Just my two cents though.

But the characters and the dialogue that they have shown so far are incredibly stupid, pair it with the abandonment of the Keep, and now I will not buy it. I think your point about how from a shallow surface perspective the choices can be justified is very good, as is how you explain that this puts anyone on the other side at a big disadvantage as the burden of explaining the context falls entirely on them, thus there is a chilling effect on people speaking out against this. As someone who works for a corporation let me tell you any kind of stigma being associated with an idea is magnified by a LOT in that setting, and from what I can tell AAA games companies are about as corporate as it gets so no wonder the activists can easily bully their way to the top.

Thanks for putting into a video a comment I usually make on youtube and it always gets deleted, of how a certain group that claims to fight for another group is just hurting the latter for profit and optics. They are just radicalizing everyone on one side or the other bringing social issues back more than 20 years. Excellent video, really good job.

Transitioning alleviates dysphoria. It doesn't take it away, it doesn't CURE them, but it does help if it goes well. However, it doesn't cure the depression or anxiety a person may have. A big issue nowadays is that some people are being transitioned without even having dysphoria in the first place because this ideology is truly f*cking vile and dangerous. There's videos of de-transitioners sharing their stories, of being either manipulated or simply being given drugs and access to procedures without even having to PROVE that they have dysphoria. Just walk in, say you have it, and walk out with puberty blockers. Then, through the teen years, they grow out of it, and are stuck with an often ruined body and a massive regret and anguish towards the system that allowed them to transition as minors who have no f*cking ability whatsoever to give informed consent.

i feel that game studios are doing the least amount of work and trying to get the most in return. they put the minimum amount of content of mechanics into these modern games, and slap DEI on them. When they don't sell like intended, they have a group to blame for being racist sexist bigots. For example Star Wars Outlaws has the bare minimum to be considered an open world game but blame people who don't like a female protagonist because the game didn't sell like they wanted it to. I've played pretty much every Ubisoft stealth game and the mechanics from those previous games are not in Outlaws when so much of the game requires stealth.

I want this game to be good but everything I see is a red flag. As of now, the only way for me to play this is if it gets a heavy mod support that will at least try to tackle lore retcons and give me the true diversity sliders, booba and cake. And fix the qunari and other races.
@TheDezembroАй бұрын
@@polackdyn I'm sure the PC community will get on that quickly. Bioware seemingly forgets that the Dragon Age fanbase is thirsty as fuck. 😂 always been. And the games were pretty unapologetic about it too, I mean Dorian's ass is taking up half the screen at some point in a cutscene and it's bigger than anything these sliders can bring to the table 😂

Oh, man, you came to the wrong place, I have no idea what I'm doing and I hate the sound of my voice. 😂 the only thing I know is that I spent several years with this account just occasionally uploading gameplay videos and it never grew the channel. I think that gameplay videos will always leave people at the full mercy of the algorythm, which isn't good. One of my videos got a big boost once, some clip from AC Odyssey, it got like 700,000 views, it didn't do anything for my subs, like I must've gotten 8 subs out of it 😂 Talking about issues such as this, and actually scripting some videos about the gaming industry, or praising games themselves, rather than just uploading gameplay clips, may actually be worth doing though. Fingers crossed. And good luck to you.

@@TheDezembro You're talking about a popular topic, you keep visuals on the screen to retain engagement, you're attempting to present insight into a nuanced argument, and you script your videos which makes you more eloquent and maintains the pacing of the video. Don't be so modest, you're doing a lot of things to make this work. I personally think your arguments were scattered and unfocused, but I also know it's really hard to make good videos and I leave my own awful videos up as a warning to others and a reminder to myself.

@@Selrisitai Thanks, I'm giving it my best shot and trying to improve. My biggest issue is being scattered. I try and re-write scripts, but it usually ends up in thinking of new details to add, often making it end up scattered anyway. 😅

Inclusion isn’t bad. Trans people aren’t bad. Pushing people to be trans, is bad. The WAY the media is doing inclusion, is largely bad. I think this is purposeful. Take she hulk, for example, or miss marvel. Two women with great, complex storylines, turned to shit by pandering and overstuffing them with meme-ables, as opposed to actual storytelling and character progression. But in part, it’s the effect of social media and the evolving media landscape on our brains. We want quality content, but we also have goldfish attention spans, and anyone popular enough can influence group think against a good story line if it’s not unfolding quickly enough. I agree things need to shift a bit, but diversity and inclusion in gaming isn’t itself an inherently bad thing. Again, don’t press agendas, and likewise don’t press buttons you don’t wanna press. Simple.

Hey, it’s free on Game Pass-should I play the game? I don’t like the woke aspects of popular games that break lore and stuff. Why the scare when you can change sex at a molecular level with magic? If it was set in a cyberpunk universe, I wouldn’t be as mad. I also wish they had done what Dragon’s Dogma 2 did with character creation, like allowing you to place scars wherever you want. And the body sliders are not realistic-what about creating a sexy female character?

Wow, he was previously a director for The Sims? Now it all makes sense. The first time I saw the character creator and the characters in Dragon Age Veilguard I went "Wow, they really downgraded the art style and uniqueness of the various races in this one (especially the Qunari who's design peaked in Dragon Age 2) . Now they all look like human Sims characters, no matter the race " , just by looking at the released footage, before I knew anything about the people behind the game.
@mrbigglezworth422 ай бұрын
The inherent problem, though, of creative lead of Dragon Age: Veilguard insisting he's a woman, which he isn't, is that you're encouraging a particular mental sickness that leads people to mutilate their bodies in irreversible ways all in the vain attempt to be "nice". This kind of thing should be viewed in a similar manner as other body dysmorphic mental diseases, and it's bad here as his deranged mind he's deliberately altering game design in a way that it's very noticeable. There are no women in this DA game. Those are androgynous men in dresses....something the director has intimate knowledge of being.
@TheDezembro2 ай бұрын
But that leaves out all the super chill, super nice and super normal trans people who I know exist, hell, I know some of them. Like, it's very easy to get "lost" in the "anti-wokeness" sauce and lose sense of the real world. Just like it's so easy to lose sense of the real world when lost in the "wokeness sauce". I'm trying to remain in the real world. And as far as I know, in the real world, real trans people, who suffer from Dysphoria, only have way to treat it and alleviate it. Which is through transitioning. It won't cure them, but it will help them be able to live their lives more normally, know what I mean? And these normal trans people aren't trying to shove ideologies down anyone's throats. I got 2 trans friends, all they post about outside of memes and shit is games, music, business, and gym progress. And here on youtube you can check, for example, Buck Angel, Marcus Dip and Blaire White's channels as examples of normal perfectly reasonable trans people who just want to live their lives and actually work to expose the crazyness. because the crazyness hurts them too by association.
@SelrisitaiАй бұрын
@@TheDezembro Apparently, transitioning does not alleviate the burden of transgenderism, at least not for most people. The self-offing rate is still around 41%, which is dramatically and disturbingly higher than the average populace. Add to that the growing prominence of transitioning _immediately_ into adulthood or heaven forbid, younger, that permanently alters your life for what is largely a fad, and I think it's more important to regard transgenderism as a horrible illness that needs to be considered with the same cautionary distaste as schizophrenia. Do I hate schizos? No. Do I want to encourage their beliefs that demons are talking to them, or that they are a pair of curtains? Not particularly. You should treat your trans friends with respect, but you don't need to treat their transgender- _ism_ like it's just a normal way of being. We already did that for homosexuality and I don't think the effect has been great.
