they will always pit black women or women of color against each other. the biggest example of this was with Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. they had nothing but praise for eachother but the press made them seem like they hated each other. but they became like best friends at one point so that didn’t matter to them.

That’s really not funny. If you understood the agenda behind these two women then you wouldn’t be laughing. Sadly I think Naomi was jealous of Tyra because of the industry pushing that agenda. This was actually quite sad, honestly that Naomi was so established but felt so threatened by someone so fresh and new in the game.

Why are they calling Naomi African American when Naomi is black British lmao Edit: being black British doesn’t mean that she’s not Jamaican: being British is ones legal nationality. It wasn’t a comment on her cultural heritage. Black British isn’t the same as being African American in that black people in Britain usually know their cultural heritage due to their parent shaving immigrated from empire (yuck); whereas African-american-ness is more of s homogenous term which incorporates black Americans how may not know their specific cultural heritages due to being alienated from it bc of slavery. Just to clear this up for ppl arguing in the comments and blowing up my inbox lol Me pointing this out was mostly a comment on non black ppl feel weird about calling black people “black”, as they feel some type of way about it

I think Tyra could of used her platform to talk about how the industry pits woman - especially black women against each other. Instead, she chastised Naomi and made it about herself. Tyra came across as very self serving. She kept dragging out the specifics of what Naomi did to her. I think Naomi was very gracious because this interview did more to feed into the negative image that Naomi has always had to deal where she constantly defending her actions rather than talking about any of her accomplishments.

Thank you for being kind and fair in your observation of the situation. People nowadays are inclined to just label someone as a villain without looking deeper and considering nuances. There is no need to neglect nuances, backgrounds. People's stories are complicated, obscure, tangled. I'm not talking about "forgive your enemy", I am talking about at least trying to be empathetic, to look into details, reasons and considering circumstances. You've tried and I grateful for that

I love to see strong, influential black women support each other. That moment when Naomi and Tyra hugged was everything. Reconciliation. Forgiveness. That means everything to young people who look up to these ladies. I appreciate how genuine Naomi was, how she took responsibility and self-aware she is. And I think Tyra was brave in bringing Naomi to her show to speak to her. Not many of us have the courage to address and forgive someone who's bullied us. I can't imagine either lady forgetting about the fued, but it's good that they cleared their conscience.

Healing from bullying and abuse is not an event, it is a process and there is no due date for how long it should take. It IS ridiculous, she has a British accent FFS...but people can be really afraid of the word black. I'll never forget years ago, in my early twenties & working in a bar in harlem, referring to my black regular as African-American and he immediately corrected me - "I'm not African-American, I'm JAMAICAN. you can call me black!" I felt so stupid...it was so completely obvious what he was saying. Growing up & being bombarded by the term A-A in liberal circles where we think because our hearts are vaguely in the right place that we're probably doing the right thing, I always thought "black" was disrespectful, like it was reducing people to a color...but he made me realize African-American is just presumptuous and often doesn't even mean anything ..do we even know exactly what our full ethnic background is? If you are half somali-American and half Thai should you only be called A-A? Anyway, I've used "black" instead of A-A since that day ("of color" too). I know there are more important issues than semantics, but ... Just wanted to give some insight (not that you really need to hear another white person's thoughts on words to describe skin color, I'm sure). I think it's more ignorance than disrespect, but what does it matter if the two look the same and we're not trying to shed that ignorance.

Naomi Cambell did the best she could and now she has changed. At some point, we have to remember emotional intelligence. She was by herself in Paris in a rigorous industry. If you watch Naomi's interview on Tyra, you can tell Naomi doesn't really deny anything Tyra said she did though, so I don't think Tyra is lying. I think with the conditions of the time and there being so few black models, it's easy to believe Naomi acted out.

Read between the lines. There was something that Naomi had that Tyra wanted. Naomi had a click and Tyra wanted to be a part of it, and Naomi is smart, she was like go find/create your own click and Tyra took it personally and the constant touting and gossiping did not help Tyra. I'm pretty sure if she was calling her mom so often and crying, she was telling others and her mom was also telling people. I don't think Naomi ever saw Tyra as real competition and I'm pretty sure she acted that way, as in that beach photo

No one wants to hear that, tho. Black women in the modeling and entertainment industries are pitted against each other all the time simply because (of some unwritten rule) there can only be one black woman excelling in any industry that isn’t known for diversity. Tyra has every right to speak on this issue (and her personal experiences) as it’s still obviously relevant to this day.

Tyra blamed Naomi for years, now she blaming the industry, but what she doesn't talk about is those white racist models and designers that also gave her hell, she never names their names, but only focuses on the dark skinned model whom she was supposed to replace, but she couldn't because her runway walk was awful, that's why she stop getting alot of runway shows, that and her weight gain, though her print ads were beautiful. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Tyra, but how many times Naomi has to apologize to her and why isn't she dropping the names of the racist people in the industry that started the feud? Why Tyra keeping hate alive between black women, where is that same energy for all the white racist people in the modeling and why hasn't she given us names?

Tracey Holland I’m darkskin and love darkskin but I feel tyra Banks side because I’ve had mean ppl do shit to me because other ppl.. Not to the same extent but I get exactly where she’s coming from. I tried to find something wrong with Tyra and I honestly couldn’t.. If I’m looking for it and don’t see it probably means she’s right.. But don’t talk shit and be mean “awful walk, and fat” when Tyra’s walk was actually sexy and she isn’t fat unless you are a toothpick with no curves lol (This is coming from a quite skinny person lol. She ain’t fat so don’t body shame her especially if it isn’t realistic.) The fashion industry is the only one that really likes flat ass, flat tits, and endorsing anorexia.. When I feel all body types have their looks imo but that’s now how it works of course 🙄. Your comment just sounds like a bash, and doesn’t fix any colorism or stereotype issues...

Easier to forget when you caused the trouble. Easier to remember when you're the one who was hurt. It's so sad the industry pitted these two against each other. It's also ridiculous the beauty industry didnt have great makeup or artist to cater to brown skin, so many white cast pictures.
