Why are they calling Naomi African American when Naomi is black British lmao Edit: being black British doesn’t mean that she’s not Jamaican: being British is ones legal nationality. It wasn’t a comment on her cultural heritage. Black British isn’t the same as being African American in that black people in Britain usually know their cultural heritage due to their parent shaving immigrated from empire (yuck); whereas African-american-ness is more of s homogenous term which incorporates black Americans how may not know their specific cultural heritages due to being alienated from it bc of slavery. Just to clear this up for ppl arguing in the comments and blowing up my inbox lol Me pointing this out was mostly a comment on non black ppl feel weird about calling black people “black”, as they feel some type of way about it

Also, a young person who doesn't have a good relationship with their parent who sees another kid kid around their age with a great relationship with their parent can get jealous. Naomi Cambell did the best she could and now she has changed. At some point, we have to remember emotional intelligence. She was by herself in Paris in a rigorous industry. She responded in a way that she thought was best, which was anger due to her insecurity and issues of abandonment. She is legendary and I forgive her because no one is perfect.

It IS ridiculous, she has a British accent FFS...but people can be really afraid of the word black. I felt so stupid...it was so completely obvious what he was saying. Growing up & being bombarded by the term A-A in liberal circles where we think because our hearts are vaguely in the right place that we're probably doing the right thing, I always thought "black" was disrespectful, like it was reducing people to a color...but he made me realize African-American is just presumptuous and often doesn't even mean anything ..do we even know exactly what our full ethnic background is? If you are half somali-American and half Thai should you only be called A-A? Anyway, I've used "black" instead of A-A since that day ("of color" too). I know there are more important issues than semantics, but ... Just wanted to give some insight (not that you really need to hear another white person's thoughts on words to describe skin color, I'm sure). I think it's more ignorance than disrespect, but what does it matter if the two look the same and we're not trying to shed that ignorance.

I think Tyra could of used her platform to talk about how the industry pits woman - especially black women against each other. Instead, she chastised Naomi and made it about herself. Tyra came across as very self serving. She kept dragging out the specifics of what Naomi did to her. I think Naomi was very gracious because this interview did more to feed into the negative image that Naomi has always had to deal where she constantly defending her actions rather than talking about any of her accomplishments.

That means everything to young people who look up to these ladies. I appreciate how genuine Naomi was, how she took responsibility and self-aware she is. And I think Tyra was brave in bringing Naomi to her show to speak to her. Not many of us have the courage to address and forgive someone who's bullied us. If anyone hasn’t seen the interview Tyra did with Naomi I suggest you watch it. I think what happened between them was mostly a combination of the industry pitting them against each other, and Tyra projecting than it was more so about Naomi just being a bitch towards Tyra. Naomi tried to apologize and Tyra kept cutting her off also. Tyra would even cut her off when she tried to remember certain things that happened but not in the way that Tyra did. That interview is very telling, and while I love Tyra I do believe she tried to control the narrative about her being a victim.
