I have a video coming out soon covering that topic. General rules are to stay off tinder, don't walk around alone at night or in shady areas, don't flash material possessions. Since Medellin is a large city with income gaps it will have the sort of crime larger cities do with the caveat of men being targeted on dating apps.

Wow! Love your content so glad I found you. Did you ever consider homeschooling your children? When my kids were school age I lived in a U.S. state that was 49th in education so I decided to homeschool. They got an amazing education and we had the flexibility to do school anywhere. We learned so much more than we ever could in a traditional school anywhere! They are also better socialized because they learned to communicate and interact with people of all ages not just their pier group. I highly recommend it. Today my kids are all married 3 with higher degrees ( one worked for NASA) the other is an entrepreneur who lives internationally

Man, this video is getting me really excited now. I plan on moving to Colombia in May this year. I do have a Colombian girlfriend who just purchased a house there and it’s 75% paid off. I figured we’d finish that off and start saving up to buy a rental property in another location there. my original plan was to move to Portugal this year before we met, but after meeting her a year ago, I feel like this may open up new opportunities now. Currently retired two years ago, I have military disability, and a pension from my last career. I’m trying to find out the best way to go about this. I don’t think Portugal is going to happen anytime soon because this is an opportunity to increase my income and have properties in different locations. It might actually be the best way to eventually make it there. I will be literally starting from scratch. How are you dealing with the properties in these locations as far as residency, or do you have citizenship there, or are you handling them just on a tourist visa?

@@kingmaafa120 I’ve only been there once for 2 weeks in August visiting my girlfriend’s family and relatives. Taking another trip there in a couple weeks for a month to warm up before moving there in may. I stayed at the Airbnb in Manizales. it was a two bedroom two bathroom, brand new condo in a new building. We asked how much something like this would cost to purchase. We were told that particular property was $65,000. I immediately thought we need to pay off the house we are currently staying in as fast as possible, invest a little bit more money into it and maybe add some additions, and start saving up money for rental property in various location. I know a lot of the passport Bros go there for their thing, but I’m not part of that group.
@Karl__Pierre
@Karl__Pierre 10 ай бұрын
Hey I think both are good choices. The only downside with Colombia and Portugal will be the income that you will produce on the properties. What you will want to do is compare long term rents with short term rents I that area. Take the net profot/purchase price and if you like that ROI do it, if not don't. I think investments should be based purely on performance while the other purchases being best for the lifestyle you want.

Hi Karl ,any insight on what will happen if there is a real estate crash like there was in 2008? Would love to hear your take on what could happen if the dollar crashes on a global scale I live in an expensive area in Turin where the cost of an appartment is around 2,046 per square meters and recently has gone up 5,6% Very informative channel. Thank you Karl!

All of that means nothing. If the market crashes you simply lose make beleive money. Always have a skill or assets that are in demand and you'll be fine. 2000/sq meter is ok my current neighborhood 8100/sq meter. I think 200/sq is pretty good.

Great video. I have my house in FL on the market. We just spent a month in Spain and found a house. Now we will see if I can sell this house. We've been waiting on my wife to get her citizenship as well. She got it done in Oct. So now we are more free to move about the world. I have a house in Puerto Rico and thought I'd split my time between FL, PR, and Spain. But I'm finding I think we need more of a home base and everything else will just be to spend a little time.
@Karl__Pierre

Where are you thinking for the home base? For me it was Fort Lauderale due to coast and airport access. What are you needs for a home base? Weather, costs, time zone?
@TheRetirementality

@@Karl__Pierre We're thinking Spain. Home owners insurance and taxes are so low that it makes sense to have something there that can sit empty when we travel. My house in FL costs $1,000 a month to sit empty even if I paid off my mortgage. We are focusing on the south of Spain. We can stay in one of our rentals in FL when we come to check on the houses. And the house in Puerto Rico is a vacation rental so we can block out dates for ourselves there too. One big problem is figuring out cars in all these locations. Renting gets expensive, but so far its the best thing we've found when we go to Puerto Rico.

I like the way you think Karl, always have. Yes, the US is to expensive for living full time in when you're trying to make as much money as possible and not just be a paycheck to paycheck serf for lack of a better term. As entrepreneurs we will always try to find the best for our selves but I do have to ask how long you think these tax haven countries will be around? I for one am worried now that I've seen taxes go up in Switzerland, and tax reducing programs going away in places like Portugal. How long before Caribbean islands do the same? Should I be worried about this or do you think there will always be a place to go where saving money will be much easier? Thanks.

Didn't know about the Medellin connection. Interesting, and so great to get a look back. We say we are "geographically polyamorous." Measure my wealth by freedom. We've chosen San Francisco and New Orleans, where we house hack our primary and run 5 STRs. Best friends sold their SF condo to go between Medellin and San Miguel Mexico and STR them when they're in the other place. Italian dual citizenship in process but it's slow, tried living in Bologna years ago and now looking at Sicily. It is so helpful to see other people. Super interesting.

@@Karl__Pierre, thanks for the reply. well, freedom of speech is being taken away. Courrption and violence has always been a thing. I am from Espirito Santo, a coastal state between Rio and Bahia. I'm not sure if you saw Elon Musl/Twitter vs. the Supreme Court judge and how they are also taking away citizens' passports of those who live abroad and don't agree with the government and are vocal about it. It's such a beautiful country, but the corruption fuels a lot of violence and super old constitution. Has major potential for sure but the corruption is so engrained.

I'm a foreigner, too, now US citizen. Pay attention with the green card, even if you spend less than 6 months out of the country, they can still take away her green card if the people at custom decide that she has been in and out too much and she hasn't really established her residency in the US....
