In 2017, Bremont introduced its new diver, the Supermarine S301. At 40mm and adorned with tidy little details, it presents a budget entry to the premium dive watch market at a little under £3,000. It’s a fine watch, if that’s what you want, well-built and well-spec’d. But what’s that got to do with the Tudor Black Bay 58?

@@MattVLRocks Which is fine, but there's no denying aluminum isn't as high quality of a material as ceramic so that adds some justification to the Bremont's price and makes the Tudor less of a bargain by comparison. Had the fortune to try these back to back last week. My head said Tudor, but my heart said Bremont. But the vintage inspired dive watch that I'll be going for... The Rado Captain Cook. @James Tudor I don't own neither, but the Tudor is really overhyped, cheap steel bezel, cheap fake rivet bracelet, gold plating, good in house movement but no finish to it Breitling made it even better by decorating it and finishing it. ETA2892 and 2824 ARE legends especially Chronometre thats why superior brands like Breitling IWC and others use them. This video again more hype on Tudor to sell, they're just ok, Rolex Homages since Hans bought the brand and that will never change.

And the looks BUT BUT BUT I am one of those weird types that isnt too Big on rolex and Tudor and I never felt this connection to tHe BB58.. I loved everything about the watch but I simply love the brands of Omega and Zenith more.. I have studied brand marketing and how it affects the consumer to buy this brand instead of the other brand.. For instance I prefer Adidas over Nike. And I prefer Omega and Zenith more than Rolex/Tudor because Hans Wildorf wasnt a watchmaker but a businessman where omega and zenith for instance was a product of true watchmaking in some sort of way.. I have just decided I’m these past few weeks that my collection should only have these watches : Zenith defy classic with blue dial and blue rubber strap. Zenith el primero 1969 Omega speedmaster Omega seamaster 300 (the vintage look one) or the really vintage looking from 2017’s trilogy set! Omega aqua terra 150 with blue dial and blue rubber strap.. These watches have a deeper connection to myself but others may have it the other way round.. I really want to own a Blancpain Fifty-Fathoms 38mm diver one day..! Or you could just do what I did 14 years ago and buy yourself a Seiko Flightmaster, the original SNA model. Mine the rare 413 blue,white and red version, but the black 411 will certainly turn heads. I think maybe I'd like one of those. As for this review, way too many silly comparisons. The so called better watch falls 100 metres short of it's rival. Let's talk about that. But more importantly, why with your smooth silky voice are you promoting Tutor? Still getting some of that Rolex "love money". Take my word for it, and I know most of you won't. Get the fuck out while you can. These folks are hoping to hell you buy into their BS and purchase this product on the hope it appreciates but it won't, so that they have a new avenue with which to sell used watches. Tudor's will suddenly be worth much more than you paid for them. Want to know the long and short of it? If the mechanical watch market ever fails, your purchase will be essentially worthless. In the short term, they never actually have the popularity that the Rolex brand has and thus don't really appreciate.

@@jeeefthegreat7555 Well let's try to not be subjective shall we. In the age, when watch craft began to rise in popularity and big complicated watches were all the rage. The Breitling Navi was the king of watches to have. It dominanted the marketplace. Knowing that I could never afford one but still being a fan of the complicated flight style I instantly became attracted to the Flightmaster. No other watch displayed the same presence. Granted $600 at the time was a lot more than just about anyone else was prepared to pay for a wrist watch. A pretty penny in 2003. I bought mine for full MSRP $575cdn plus tax off a dealer. And yes, after over a dozen years on my wrist I am very happy to conclude, it is ever the conversation piece among watch enthusiasts and more importantly, just about everyone else thinks it's the bomb. Being a genuine watch enthusiast yourself, you know my SNA 413 blue and white panda dial Flightmaster is pretty much the stuff of dreams regardless of price. There are probably more Rolex Daytona's available for sale at any given time than there are Blue, White 413 Flightmaster's. That's a fact.

How about the 300M Longines Hydroconquest for $1950 CAD or £1400. You get a custom ETA movement with 64 hour power reserve. £1000 less than the BB58 and a pedigree spanning back to 1832. Forgot to mention that includes a laser etched ceramic bezel, unlike the BB58’s scratch-prone aluminum bezel.

Full marks to Bremont for even being in this comparison. It's a beautiful watch, more waterproof and very nicely detailed, with a heart and a soul. It's also so much neater and clearer and more subtle, and the dial lacks the really gaudy indeces, logo and extensive narrative text which clutter the Tudor dial. One day, the cognoscenti will be using the B-word a lot more than at present.

great watch, love the smaller size of the 58.. but after wearing both the new and the older model.. i had to go with the first release.. the smily dial and tudor rose.. just looks perfect its completes this watch. the eta movement is fine, and can be serviced by anyone for next to nothing.. when the movement is not a piece of art like an ap, jlc, fp journe, a lange and sohne or patek.. i think the rest of the watch matters more than the movement... thats what im looking at all day

The Tudor is fine if you can live with the snowflake hour hand, but I can't. The Tudor has an aluminium bezel... at that price it really should be brushed ceramic. How about servicing and parts costs (could be about even)? Bremont make about 8,000 watches a year. How many do Tudor make, 100,000/year, 200,000k per year or more. For rarity and exclusivity Bremont wins hands down. I don't know if Watchfinder has ever covered a Christopher Ward but they have their own in house movement too (I'm going to duck for cover now I've mentioned CW). Personally of the two I'd go for the Bremont because it just looks better and that Trip-Tick case is amazing.

Tudor on weekdays. Omega or Rolex on weekends. Other brands every other day whenever I feel like taking another one for a spin. I never have to be apologetic when I wear Tudor. That's why it gets the most wrist time. It's not as flashy as Rolex or Omega, yet it's every bit as decadent and storied in its own reserved way.

@chadr8264
@chadr8264 4 жыл бұрын
I think the looks are subjective. Yes the Tudor is technically better. But for me, I hate the snowflake as I only ever look at the hour hand then, and I think an aluminum bezel is cheap looking compared to ceramic. I like the pop of red as well if it is between these particular models. It is the Bremont for me in the looks category by a long shot.
@johnnyboy114
@johnnyboy114 4 жыл бұрын
Is the Tudor technically better? Movement aside, what does the Tudor offer that the Bremont doesn’t? Bremont is tested to destruction, has a unique case that is also tested beyond its capabilities, it’s hardened steel is harder than any other watch of its price and genre and its crystal has 7 layers of anti reflecting coat. I think the Bremont gets a rough ride in this snobbish forums. It’s a great watch. No worse than the Tudor. Tudor has the might of Rolex behind it and sheer volume and economies of scale in its favour. Hence the price disparity. When people who actually know what is what look at the real nitty gritty, this video really is pandering to that bias. Both are great watches. Simple
@anthonyshillingford848
@anthonyshillingford848 4 жыл бұрын
Mattia Santangelo: I completely disagree with your whole statement. The BB is not technically better at all, it's not more or less prestigious, and its looks are subjective. Picking the Bremont is as pointless as anyone paying anything more than the cost of a $10 Casio to tell the time. I never understand why certain people feel like they have the duty to belittle the choices other people make, it's not like they're spending your money, or somehow removing your choice. At the end of the day both watches are "nice" and present a great choice to the person who choses them.

I think the Omega Seamaster 300 M offers even better value and it's only priced at 270 $ more (Chrono24, new, Europe): ceramic bezel and dial, higher water resistance, crown guards, more adjustable bracelet, better accuracy parameters, more anti-magnetic, display case back and arguably better finishing. BB wins on design mostly :)

Ohhhhh, why did I not see this earlier to really understand what Rolex's strategy is. After the successful re-launch of Tudor, they saw an opportunity to move Rolex even more up market and have Tudor fill in the gap on the lower end without having to rely on the brother strategy. Tudor is well on its way to becoming its own brand. It has strong design elements, in fact some are even innovative compared to Rolex. The Tudor in-house movement, effectively coming from Rolex, gives Tudor higher credibility than any competitor who uses an outside movement. I believe Rolex has purposely shifted resources to Tudor production and marketing to see if this strategy will work without really increasing their overall annual spend. A very smart financial move at this time of uncertainty. At the same time, they have limited supply of Rolex watches as they increase prices. This allows Tudor to established itself fully as the go-to watch in the "entry" level of strong horology watches. Tudor then becomes the brand the average person aspires to in a higher level watch than a Seiko. Rolex's prices will have increased to the point where the gap between Rolex and Tudor is so great that Rolex will be able to reap the higher margins of their new up market position.

I like the Bremont. It has an interesting case design and wears well, does not scratch easily. You have to be careful with the Tudor, its a scratch magnet. Tudor have made a pretty but delicate watch. Bremont have created at tough watch, suitable for purpose. Bremont are investing heavily in UK watchmaking, has anyone checked out their new facility they are building in Henley upon Thames. They are working on an in house movement and will be making them in the UK. I own 1 Bremont the Boeing Type1. Obviously that’s a very personal thing and agree with everything said here, but didn’t like it. I also thought it wore much smaller than the specs and pictures suggested. Funny thing is, I still love the loon of it in photo's, but on the wrist it was a no. I would only have been buying it for its rarity, which would have been all wrong. The BB58 is nice, really nice. There has been so much 'noise' surrounding it. I was able to try one on in an AD in Ireland. It was on the Tudor nato. From the off it seemed small to me, lacking presence. I love dive watches, but I really see them as a tool. Slipping under a cuff is not a prime requisite for me for a dive watch. I would be more inclined to go for the original Heritage. Now you don't hear many people say that, do ya!
@ryewhiskeyblues
@ryewhiskeyblues 4 жыл бұрын
I'm totally with you. I chose the Heritage BB Black over the 58 mostly because of the contrast between the gilt on the dial and the silver on the bezel. The gold on gold on gold just didn't do it for me, and the 2mm difference in case diameter just didn't really jump out at me. Also, I feel like the thickness of the "regular" BB is played up a little too much. In my experience, if it's not worn on a nato, the bubble back pretty much sinks into my wrist. I haven't had any trouble with this watch slipping under a cuff. When I do put a nato on the watch, I actually prefer the larger size of the Heritage. Smaller watches (39mm and below) generally kind of strike me as odd looking on nato and zulu straps.
