It's the look in the characters eyes that gets me. So real and alive, even as they are drooping and turned down by weariness. Also, his way with color is so beautiful.

Chris Mars is undeniably talented. His works may be perceived as unconeventional, but his art works have deeper complexity to them that not many can easily decode or interpret.

If for unconventional you mean from a stylistic point of view I agree, if you're talking about the messages... i'd rather say that the correct word is trivial...

@@yoggothemadgod6196 yep, couldn't agree more. Very unique style, yet cluttered and repetitive works.

@@democratictotalitariansoci1462 The monster faces look like each stitched together from too many different and random coloured pieces. Asymmetry makes mainly sense when it contrasts or breaks symmetry, but these are barely symmetric at all. The paintings look like lacking each an individual concept (somewhat like AI generated art). They are ok but not unique masterpieces like Bosch or Dali paintings.

Chris must be a very perceptive person to be able to paint such a wide, beautiful array of emotions and expressions. The 'monsters' all look so real, so colorful. I love the ones with big rosy cheeks :)

I love all the different emotions shown in these faces, so much to read in them that they need no description. Incredible talent. Great video, thanks for your work.

I discovered this artist because of the covers of "Grimscribe" and "The conspiracy against the human race" by outstanding Detroit writer Thomas Ligotti (published by Penguin) used some of his artworks which I find after reading wonderfully fitting. I encourage you all to read them, specially the later. Pretty Neat video Mr. Dweller, neat as always!

Great video! I saw some of his work displayed at the Minneapolis Institute of Art maybe 20 years ago and it still has an affect on me today. One of the pieces was animated and you could put on headphones to listen to hundreds of characters, all talking at once. Brilliant stuff.

So glad you are giving us your insightful and empathic take on Chris's stunningly dark artwork.I don't find his work grotesque or ugly,but achingly human in a really visceral way,he makes us confront our own demons as he confronts his and makes us question bad things in the world.he has the same sensibility as Otto Dix.I love the replacements too,that is how I discovered his artwork as he did covers for their music.He articulates visually things that can't be spoken of verbally in his very emotive art.(Matt)p.s his work really moves you if you see it in real life in the same way Francis Bacon does,hope you get a chance to see Chris's work in person one day

I really quite enjoy the empathy on display in his works. Downtrodden, disturbed, and disturbing people stuck in a positive feedback loop of getting more downtrodden, disturbed, and disturbing. These are people who need a better world and the introduction of love and compassionate influences like Chris who are willing to look them in the eyes and ask them what's wrong.
@thisisanexonym

I'd like to think that his cruel worlds filled with decay are worlds coated with a cruelty that is decaying away from being willing to confront it. Healing wounds look very gross compared to fresh wounds. With convalescence it's a very necessary step to accept and embrace ugliness because beauty is otherwise impossible. Ugly is beautiful.

A suggestion that I think might be interesting, doing a video about Norval Morrisseau. People considered him to be Picasso of the North. He has an interesting story and very great artwork. I do think there's not much Indigenous artist recognition out there. I suggest taking a look. I really love your videos, art means a lot to me, as well as others. Keep doing great work!

I'm actually curious about indigenous artwork. It's not recognized as much as it should be. As an Asian, I truly admire art from the indigenous people. It's very different compared to modern art, it's very spiritual. I hope Blind is able to check him out. I'm sure others would love to see!

one of my favorite artists today has to be Phil hale, you would dig his stuff, what an interesting and dark world he creates. There is something about him and his mentor Rick Berry's art that touches a strange place in the reptilian brain. Probably the most skilled out there rn. Chris Mars seems to explore the biological horror where Bhil and Berry seem to be focused on the unfamiliar meeting the familiar. Lenora Carrington or Kathe kollwitz would also make a good video, there's lots of great artists out there. I love your videos
