In my head-canon... Long ago, Shub-Niggurath attempted an invasion of Stroggos. After years if not decades of fighting, The Strogg defeated her army and forced them off Stroggos and back into the Dreamlands. That would explain how the Strogg turned into a cybernetic warlike species and why their home world became a desolate wasteland. The Strogg then followed and continued the fight on her terf. Going full scorched Earth and decimating the Dreamlands, but eventually forced to retreat as their forces were stretched too thin. Hence why there are Strogg supply crates scattered about in the first Quake. That could be a major reason why they invaded Earth. To replenish their troop numbers and return to the Dreamlands to finish the job once and for all.

Or the Strogg succumbed to Shub-Niggurath and were granted the mental ability of advanced cybernetics just from being the ally to Quake? I did notice alot of Quake markings in the Strogg outposts, maybe they are in some ways a whole society devoted to the cult of the dreamlands.

Always was fascinated by Quake 1 lore, the later games with the Strogg never interested me that much. I always loved the Eldritch and otherworldly nature of the first game. I hope one day Quake 1 gets a doom 2016 style reboot with fleshed out lore and more detailed worlds. Even if gameplay wise it's basically like doom 2016 with different weapons I'd still be happy, the atmosphere is what makes it for me

Maybe it won't ever be canon, but i like the *implication* that Ranger honestly would know about magic. Maybe at a very advanced level, because of the fact that the Runes gave so much sorcerous knowledge.

Quake I has always been my favourite, the Netherworld always looked so cool to me. I didn't know the lore went this deep, but then I've never played Quake Champions cos it's got no single player. I need to check this out

I like to head-canon the slipgate complex (difficulty/level selection) you visit first time is just a vision/dream Ranger has (maybe that vision is also connected to why he never is corrupted) before he wakes up to the phone call, and he only reaches it physically after touching the first rune. Counter-Strike: terror wins xD would be neat if a new Quake could focus on eldritch horror and blend into Hexen (with better puzzles).

I would like to see Quake have a combination of techology horror, like the Strogg and mystery comic horror. Said for a Doom 2016 and Eternal, You the Ranger (for example) fight the Strogg invasion of earth to access the slip gates to access the dream realm of Quake, now fighting nightmare horror, needing to defeat them to stop Strogg slip gates for their fleet to get to earth.

That'd be a lot of action. Quake Champions takes place solely in The Dreamlands in which Ranger fights against the other people that have been trapped there and have not become Dreamers. Quake Wars is also a shooter in which you play human or Strogg.
