The Seltas Queen eating the Seltas actually happened to me once, and I remember It to this day. I was trying to farm Seltas Queen materials in GU, and to spice up the experience I decided to try and do It in a Prowler quest where the main target was the Seltas, and the Queen was just an extra. Before I could kill her, She ate the Seltas finishing the quest for me and stopping me from killing her. Smartest bug I've ever met.

The Seltas pair returning would be a real treat. Heck, throw in Ahtal-Ka and a whole bunch of new neopterans, really expand on that clade. Arthropods are such a ridiculously messed up and diverse bunch of critters that you could fuel entire Monster Hunter rosters with bugs alone.

What is your favourite moment of realistically inclined ecology/behaviour in Monster Hunter, whether by supplementary or in-game material? Me personally, I really get a kick out of seeing Brachydios's intro in Iceborne. At first we only see the result of its presence, the injured Uragaan stumbling into view before a coating of slime brings it down. Once the giant is down does Brachydios reveal itself, slowly following its prey, assessing the situation to determine that the Uragaan was downed before it commits to rushing in and finishing it off. This emulates ambush predation among carnivores such as venomous snakes and sharks, who are known to catch prey off-guard with a sudden strike and then retreat rather than prolong the conflict. The aim is simply let the shock of the attack combined with blood loss/venom whittle the victim down, either killing it outright or making it easy for a follow-up to finish it off. You can imagine that Brachydios caught the Uragaan by surprise, tried to get as much slime onto it as possible with fast blows and then backed off before it could effectively fight back. Thus Brachydios gets itself a huge meal with minimal exertions and reducing the risk of itself getting injured. Respectable mentions include Nergigante/Deviljho calling off their hunt when the target effectively retaliates, Odogaron taking a moment to size up the Hunter and Handler to identify the more vulnerable target, and Glavenus ignoring the hunter in front of it in favour of the more rewarding prospect.

For me it's a tie with Tobi Kadachi and Diablos in World. Tobi shows off his quick agility in trees, much like the squirrel he's based off of, and the static electricity that builds in his fur while he does that is what causes his affinity with thunder. And in his intro, he also shows tendencies for ambush hunting like snakes and other ambush predators, getting in position behind the hunter before striking. Then there's Diablos, a highly aggressive and territorial herbivore. During his intro, it's shown that he uses the noios to alert him when something is in his territory, showing that he is drawn to sound and tipping off the player that it can be used against him or other monsters(sound pods or the sand pit environment trap he creates). Ambushing from below, he uses his large horns to quickly overpower his victims and either drive them off or outright kill them. It kinda reminds me of rhinos and their tendency to charge at anything they perceive as a threat, though that's due more to their prey mindset and the fact that they have terrible eyesight and can't tell if something is a threat or not so they choose violence by default, while Diablos is for territory and food source protection.

For me I feel like it has to be in the intro of Tri, where the Jaggi of Moga island do a coordinated drive hunt of Aptanoth, with the Ludroth showing in the water like crocs or sharks or something. That to me really felt like the monster were ANIMALS rather than fantastical beasts, and I really miss that aspect of "oh yeah, it's a friggin animal" in Rise. I really hope they return to the more "realistically" grounded type of monster design in MH6, following what World set up. World definitely comes in with a really close second place for the Ancient Forest monster introductions and then later the Guiding Lands cutscene with Zinogre. Those cutscenes really sold me on the whole "these are goddamn wild animals, and they will behave like wild animals" aspect of the game.

I honestly fucking LOVE Agnaktor, it is my absolute FAVORITE monster in the entire franchise. And I REALLY, REALLY want him to make a comeback eventually. The design, the sounds, hell even the beam, it's all just an amazing sight to see and I PRAY that he'll be brought back next gen.

@@EliteScarabX Rise in general has weird omissions. No Zamtrios despite Zamites, Basrios but not Gravios. I admittedly think it is a good idea to give some monsters a game off every now and then, helps keep from getting overdone. But then they add in skeletons and only use it for one monster. Amphibians and neopterans have serious untapped potential, yet we only get tetra and the raknas this game?

Really hope that we see deltas queen with multiple seltas when she comes back, and I don’t mean like a new variant, like the regular one does just swarm control a bunch of males. Also, the trigger to have it eat Seltas is when the male is on her back AND she is fatigued/exhausted. There may be some extra but or some RNG, but that’s what I remember it being. Well, Agnaktor was very likely ALSO going to be in world with Lagiacrus, but after problems with that skeleton (the lagi skeleton is lower to the ground than the Mizutsune one) it had to be cut, and Lavisioth took that place. They’ve been trying to fix it since the, but it’s still no good. Perhaps in Mh6

Unique thoughts! Imagine if you did mount a seltas queen in a new game, and she tried to do a rajang and grab you off. But, if a seltas is on the queen, you can jump onto his back and the queen grabs the seltas while your on him. Then you get off and she smashes up the seltas. Imagine that. Plus, it would make the eating him thing happen more often. Also Imagine if you had a seltas queen mount, but there no seltas on her back, either she grabs you, or calls a seltas to get you off with a spike attack

I remember seeing that video and them saying SQ eating Seltas was extremely rare, and then when i eventually bought GU (which was my first monster hunter game i actually played (I technically owned Tri when i was younger but never played it)), the first time I ever hunted SQ, she did the thing. Twice in the quest. I thought i was really fucking lucky. Then i proceeded to farm her for her armor (I really like her armor) and I remember her killing Seltas and eating him like almost every single quest. I'm really thinking they're the unlucky ones here XD

@@devastation2005 While your right, I know we won't due to varying things. like popularity in monoblos's case (More people prefer Diablos to him) and they can't figure out animations for large Leviathans Like Lagicruis (who could have be in two recent games). I've accepted they won't be back in favor of all of the more popular monsters and if I'm wrong then its a win/win. though some of these monster are without a doubt gone for good. (like Vespoid Queen who's last appearance was MH 2 I believe)

13:07 I made a monster that did something similar I never gave it a name since I couldn't think of anything good, but it was a cave monster with a body kind of like Odogaron but with a more wolf like face and large ears it also had small eyes it was able to see but it can't see clearly unless whatever it's looking at is directly Infront of it in biting range they also had massive curved claws to cling onto walls and ceilings of caves it was unable to extend its neck but it had four long tentacles one on each of its shoulders on its front limbs one right in the middle of its back and the last one in place of its tail all four tentacles had a mouth that opened like a flower with four petals and on the inside of each of these petals on its tentacles where inward facing teeth the tendrils can extend and retract at will but wait there's more each tendril also had three long extendible tongues inside that could launch out to bind prey the saliva from these tongues would inflict poison and paralysis if they hit you it also had a grab where it would just straight up eat you alive and kill you unless it got flinched these tendrils could be cut at the mouth making them unable to eat you until they regrow they also where three star to fire and couldn't leave their caves during the day as the sun would burn them they also reproduced parasitically over time the host becoming more and more photophobic staying in the shade more and more often until it dies and the young can come out safe due to the shade. Also, Josh, Cotton there is a fan monster called "Seltas King" so its pretty close to a Seltas that calls Seltas Queen that calls Seltas.
