I do get the anger at Isaac but just a reminder. He grew up in a time where homosexuality wasn't just frowned upon. It was straight up illegal, and would be for quite a while to come. Did he have time to see things change? In a sense, maybe. But a lifetime of indoctrination and centuries of seeing that believes still in place aren't easily undone. The internalized homophobia must be one hell of a strong thing to battle when you saw that not too long ago, even the greatest heroes of war were chemically castr*ted and driven to end themselves because they were gay (Alan Tuning, after WWII).

I think the fact that his closest friend was Hetty also factored in. She not only is from a time with similar sensibilities, but she also had a terrible relationship when she was alive and was incredibly repressed. So it's really only been fairly recently he's had people around to talk to who could help him unlearn the things he conditioned to believe while alive. Like dude was still trying to convince himself he was straight until recently.

Marriage adds unnecessary pressure and strain on a relationship. A friend I went to high school and college with once shared "For the 3 years I dated Mandy I never cheated or even had the desire to but not a year after marriage and im fantasizing about one of the CNAs!" . I resolved that no matter how in love I feel I will never get married. Plus it helps that I grew up with marriage for homos like me not even being an option. .
