This Cut & Thrust mix features the full version of The Two Ronnies theme music as well as music used in their 1977 comedy detective serial featuring Charlie Farley & Piggy Malone AND the end title music!
Perhaps one of the best-loved shows to air on British TV (BBC), The Two Ronnies ran from 1971 to 1987 and featured sketches, solo sections, serial stories and musical finales - performed by the brilliant Ronnie Corbett and Ronnie Barker.
While the two Ronnies were not actually a double act (they were both actors in their own right), their partnership was must-see TV and, at its peak in 1980, The Two Ronnies pulled in 18.6 million viewers (closely matching Morcambe & Wise whose most popular show attracted 18.7 million in the same year).
Like many TV shows from this era, The Two Ronnies’ theme tune was recorded by a full orchestra and was composed by Ronnie Hazelhurst (…the third Ronnie!) This remix uses the opening title music and closing credit music, which seem to be two different pieces of music, although I believe they are part of one arrangement.
I’ve also included the theme music from a popular serial story (from series 6 of The Two Ronnies in 1977) called “Stop You’re Killing Me” featuring the two Ronnies as detectives - Charlie Farley and Piggy Malone. This music is by British composer and arranger, Alan Tew.
The voice of the BBC1 continuity announcer is Peter Brook from 24th July 1981.
