Yep , trading back for the 66 is a good move. Can't figure people and the tang sight , guess they ain't never used one. I put one on my Uberti 1873 Win. in 45 colt. It wasn't too bad for me to shoot with the buckhorn but the Marbles on the tang made it a "sniper rifle" , lol.
@plowboysghost2 жыл бұрын
Marbles tang sights turned both this '66 carbine and the '73 rifle I used to have into VERY easy to hit with/accurate arms. I'm a big fan of peep/aperature sights...and the tang sight easily gives my 19" carbine the sight radious of a 24" rifle.

I actually have brass tack pages from Track Of the Wolf and another place saved to my favorites for the last week or so...studying on the same thing myself. I have no idea if I have any native ancestry...but there are a lot of things I admire about Plains Indian culture.

@@plowboysghost Coming back from fire season last year I swung up through Montana and Wyoming and went to all the important indian war battlefield sites. Was reading a history of Red Cloud throughout. It was profound. Headed out I paralleled the Oregon and California trails. I'm not sure modern people can begin to get their heads around the suffering involved. On the way out I read "Empire of the Summer Moon," story of Quanah Parker and the Comanche. People have no idea. These people were ferocious. Was running a Schofield and a short '58 Reminton (both in 45c) and a Garrett Sharps in 45-70. Have swapped out the Sharps for a mint original 1880 Trapdoor carbine. Much faster. Will add the Yellowboy to it and I should be set for anything I encounter.

@@Mis-AdventureCH I aim to see those areas one day. I've never been that way before. I spent a couple decades+ studying the 1860-1865 era and never paid much attention to the Indian Wars/etc... before this last year or two. About the time I got bored with the former, the latter opened up a new "world" to my mind. Red Cloud is the main one that stands out in my mind...having not only won battles, but a WAR against the United States. I'd like a Trapdoor carbine, myself...one day.
@Mis-AdventureCH2 жыл бұрын
@@plowboysghost Trapdoor is by far the faster of the two actions (Sharps vs. Springfield) in the single shot lineup. Also, being new to the single action “cowboy” guns (I’ve found my new favorite) I bought a Cimmeron model P in 4-3/4”. Because it’s my very first single action, and I watch ALL your videos, can you make a video explaining how and why you “slick them up”? What you look for or, don’t look for…. Love your channel. Love your channel and you have an easy voice to listen to...I have an 1873 saddle carbine with marbles tang sight and I can't bring myself to drilling and tapping that second hole so 1 screw holds it on and with the mild 45 colt recoil, so far no issues. Hard to believe so many people looking at that rifle and not knowing what a tang sight adds to the enjoyment and value to the rifle...if I had seen it, I'd have it in my collection to be sure!
@plowboysghost2 жыл бұрын
It took some time for me to decide to put the marble's on that Uberti '73 rifle I had, but I drilled and tapped the hole the first day I mounted it. This '66 was a no brainer...except for the idea of putting a tang sight on carbine. They're more common on the longer rifle, but I did find pics of an original '66 carbine with a tang sight. If it were all about looks and handling, I'd take it off before I went to bed tonight. BUT....I know how much easier it is to hit with with the tang sight on it, and connecting with the target is more important to me.

@@plowboysghost when I was at the antique arms show here in Las Vegas. I was talking to some of the old timers. who are major gun collectors. They told me about a technique. And I used on my Griswold and Gunnison. its patina on the brass had worn off because of working and handling it. First step, Take the gun apart. Put some white vinegar and salt mixed in the bottom of the plastic tub. Enough to cover the bottom. Clean your brass Parts really really well. then hang it on the inside with some wire. let it hang there without the parts touching the vinegar salt mix. Lightly put a lid on or cover the tub. Let sit Until you are happy with the look. I left the Griswold and Gunnison in there for about 12 hours and it ended up looking just like it did when I bought it. It looked 160+ years old again. Very happy how it came out. I have heard a lot of modern reproductions cover their brass in some kind of a clear coat. So that would have to be removed. This by far is the best way, I have ever seen to patina brass. This might be more then what you are trying to do. But time dictates the amount of patina. But either way this might be a good technique to store away for another day. Cheers
