Russ never played with a vet type of player with that “hey cut that shit out” or “calm your ass down” type of personality . He would’ve benefited from an Andre Igodala, Lebron James type personality. He’s never been at a franchise with a strong personality coach or executive. Imagine Russ under Pat Riley or a Greg Popovich. Harden and KD have soft spoken personalities

I second this.A buddy of mine sent me an article on what if clippers acquire Westbrook but I told him it's a 50/50 as while Westbrook is a Kobe-esque player, he is being a score first instead of his required role of a floor general. If in his rookie years, he had gotten like Pat Riley or Pop, or even Phil Jackson(yes he suck as an exec but u don't win 11 rings without being a top coach) he would have benefit from being told to stop his tendencies. He need a guy like Lebron atm who distribute the ball, otherwise he is just gonna pass his prime and be a Mello

Physical talent isn't everything. You see players like Kidd, CP3, Jokic, Luka, Dirk, Duncan etc. who aren't freaks of nature but can lead teams and make their team better overall. Not Russ. If his mental talent was anywhere near his physical gifts, he might have been in the goat discussion by now. It's not completely his fault because the NBA emphasizes physical advantages so much starting as early as the initial scouting that mental problems are often overlooked and the players in question are simply let off the hook, leading to them becoming lazy and reluctant to improve unless guided by an elite coach. Just like Russ doesn't move off the ball, Ben Simmons still can't shoot and Giannis still can't figure out what to do if his drives are cut off.
@bannedcommander29324 жыл бұрын
Also need to add that player mentality in general is a bigger problem in this day and age than people realize. Star players have become so spoiled that they basically put their team on probation when they first sign the contract, get them a championship within 2 years or the trade demand won't be far behind. This kind of player simply refuses to look for problems in his own game and only blames others for repeated failure to win. Unsurprisingly, most of them fail to win with their new team and start bouncing around the league, never realizing that their failures are their own.

People saying a lot about how Russ is as hungry as Kobe or something like that is completely and way off. Russ cares nothing more than to get his stats. That has been proven time and time again with how much he desperately tries to get a triple double every game(passing up open shots for him, getting pissed at teammates for missing a would have been assist for him and getting pissed at any teammate who gets his rebounds). Kobe has shown much more than that. He can move off-ball and most importantly, he can and will defend. Westbrook always had the tools to be a better defender. Size, strength and quickness but he lacks effort. He even deliberately leaves his man open just so he can go after the rebound. Now people are finally realizing how overrated Westbrook was all this time.

The reason rockets got Westbrook is because gsw was the team to beat for them. They came close last playoff but came short because of cp3 injury. With two backcourt superstars, curry became vernerable in defense so their idea was to replace cp3 with another and more healthier superstar. Rocket’s problem was as they were tuning the team to face gsw, it became weaker against other teams. If capella wa still there, they would have matched up better against lakers.

@LaRue Mathis I mean some basketball fans look at The Shiny things and not the Small things. They look at the scores not the entire system behind the scoring. That's why I think some people think it's hard to believe CP3 is just better than Westbrook. One always scores, unstoppable and always memorable. The Other tries to do more with the Team to always score, be unstoppable as a whole but never memorable. That's simply why Some students I know here say the Lakers is better than the Tim Duncan era Spurs. Because spurs never really had any notable superstar.
@skillz01224 жыл бұрын
I know it doesn't make for a good video but the real problem was how OKC enabled him. I remember an OKC media member came on True Hoops podcast a couple of years ago and elaborated about it. Little shit like him paying all his bills in the practice facility and freezing out media members. Some people within the Thunder hated the way he treated the staff on a daily basis but wouldn't say anything for fear of losing their jobs, stuff people would kill LeBron for if they had heard about it. Ignoring alot of coaches plays, KD went to management about it a couple times and it was told his concerns went unheard. They talked about how how The Thunder were the only game in town and how it affected how they handled their stars. I mean honestly this stuff was public knowledge but went ignored.

I couldn't see CP3 having as big of a bounceback season as he did, but was able to 100% to tell you that CP3's impact on increasing a team's win % has been light years ahead of WB's for their entire careers and wasn't going to change this year either.

Actually no I will deny his energy. I’m sick of us calling him a “high energy player” when we also acknowledge he hardly ever moves off ball and he often doesn’t do very much on defense. He is high energy when HE has the ball. Steph Curry is a way higher energy player than Westbrook. Kawaii Leonard is a way higher energy player. A lot of players are. Just because he drives hard to the rim doesn’t make him high energy
