In an era of polymer, striker fired clones, it’s always good to know the old school, hammer fired, metal frame guns are still out there and ready to go to war with you if you ever needed them.

Yeah it gets a little boring when nearly every new pistol that comes out is the same thing. I have nothing against striker-fired polymer pistols, I have a few but my EDC now is a Sig 229 Legion.

@@appalachiangunman9589 Yeah. I was just at the range with a buddy of mine who swears that Glock is the Be All-End All pistol in every situation. That was until I let him shoot my Sig P.226. Then all of a sudden, gears started to turn in his head. Don’t get me wrong, we very much live in a golden age of pistols where there is a pistol for every person’s needs out there that you can pretty much bet your life on and I’m extraordinarily grateful for this. But for me, the classic firearm design will always be my go to.

Im not sure why they ever departed from frame safety. Early models had it & the Brazilian factory that Taurus bought from Beretta produced frame mounted safety/decocker. It's far more intuitive. I've owned both a 9mm Beretta 92 & a .40 Taurus version (PT100). They shoot the same really, but I much prefer the Taurus controls.

@@antoniotula262I’ve always thought it was because they think it’s better to have the safety on the slide so you can easily flick it off and it’s out of the way after that so you don’t accidentally reengage the safety. I have always loved the Beretta design. I would own one in a heartbeat, especially the X or this M9A4, if only it was southpaw friendly. I’m one of those “wrongsided” shooters. My older brother who was also a southpaw carried his 92 (FS I believe) everyday. Whenever we went to the range for some fun, he was as fast on mag changes and using the slide release as any righty. I don’t know how he did it. I asked him “how do you disengaged the safety quickly when carrying it in case you ever had to use it?” In his true badass way he said “safety? Brother! That’s a sissy switch. It’s double action on the first shot. No need to have the safety on. Your holster is the safety and that thing between your ears!” (Meaning using your head) I sure do miss him!

I fell in love with the M9. My brother who unfortunatly does not care for, clean, store and otherwise lets hisvgunscgo the hell in a hand basket, had a mouse chewed Beretta M9. I took the time to take it down. And restored it to functional and loved its feel, 15 round capacity, and its accuracy. Decided to buy my own. Came accoss an M9A4, new, in Ammo box. And got a good by. Its by far been the most accurate, well built. And 18+1, with 3 clips total. Threaded barrel, optics ready. Which I prefer the tritium night sights. And from 1st shot, knew mu collection was complete. Im small and purchased a Craftholsters rototilt shoulder harness, with 2 mag pouch, and its in perfect cross draw position very quickly. Use it for everyday CC, plus compact M&P 9 Shield Plus and a belt cross draw holster and also orders 2 extra 13 round magazines. Too much? Or ready for any situation I could find myself in. I have several different semi autos that will not be carried any more. But whether seat belted in my truck or on my motorcycle. I have quick access to M9A4 Or backup. And will have more than enough ammo, and highly tested, accurate pistol for anything I can imagine.

The 92SBF became the M9, later shortened to just 92F; the S was later added for modded pistols after. Few M9 slides broke at the rear, tending to knock out a tooth or two, which added a ridge or shelf to capture/ prevent said piece from knocking out teeth if it did separate. Later production M9’s incorporated these changes.

I have an M9A4 centurion and I love it. One of the big things I have found with the magazines is that there are 2 types you can get from Beretta (cant really select) One is the thicker basepad like in the video, they are the gloss finish and Ive had a few problems with some of them getting wider when loaded and getting stuck in the gun. I had to send 2 back because of the problem. The other is a thin baseplate and marked Mec-Gar along the front (I believe both are made by Mec-Gar they just have slightly different designs). The thin baseplates have worked flawlessly for me and I think look a lot better in the gun. You can also tell the difference with the witness holes, the thick baseplate has 1 line of witness holes that show every other round, the thin baseplate have a witness hole for each round.

Part of the soft recoil is the weight, but I'd propose another part comes from 1) the comparatively low weight of the slide relative to the frame, 2) the length of travel of the barrel before affixing in the frame, 3) the depth at which the barrel makes contact with the frame because of the falling block and 4) the non-tilting barrel. There is a reason why Beretta adopted the P-38's falling block system, but on the downside the locking block is a part that requires maintenance.

I do like that the M9-A4 comes standard with de-cocker only. However, I prefer the frame finish on the M9-A3. The M9/92 pistol series is hands down one of the best suppressor hosts made. Bells and whistles aside I'll stick with my M9 . What's nice is that parts will always be around till your heart's content. If only Beretta would make a compact M9 /92 the size of the Cheetah. The remake of the Cheetah 80X isn't worth the money when you can buy a 9 with the same money!!

Its always metal and hammer fire guns because they never disappoint Sometimes Glocks have issues of light strike they also have more muzzle flip than compared to m9 in 9mm and manuel safety and decocking also comes in handy

Both M9A3 and M9A4 come with either standard safety or G Model decocker only so I’m not sure it’s technically an M9A4 “upgrade”. Great guns either way.

I am a huge Beretta fan. I have owned several stock Berettas and have heavily customized two. My personal view is the M9A3 is the pinnacle of Beretta's development. I believe that forward slide cuts ruin the looks of any pistol, from a 1911 Colt to a CZ75 variant and of course, any Beretta. While I am sure their latest M3-Ish gun is great, they do not have my vote in the styling dept.

Good stuff Sootch. Exactly which mag loader are you using there? I have so many that dont seem to work too good with the berretta mags. I usually end up using the one that came with my PX4 fullsize, but that one you're using seems to work nicely. Thanks

Scotch said the his model 91 was rough looking beside the grip looks OK to me , Question does it shoot cause I was always told the gun on hand beats that gun at home when you need it also why do we call a thumb rest a gas pedal when in reality it's equivalent to a dead pedal you know that spot where you rest your foot at when its not on a brake pedal

I love Beretta. I have an older 92S ALL metal. Why does Beretta have to put plastic parts on these ?? They aren’t inexpensive. What’s it going to really save ??

This is everything in a pistol that I dislike. DASA operation, heavy and wide. These things carry like bricks. 4.5 pounds after the first shot or from a cock lock position is terrible. And they don’t shoot so well. All of those crazy moving parts external to the gun and old design fully exposed barrel lend itself to inducing failure when the pistol is needed most. The US military had enough of these darn things and Beretta hasn’t changed much of anything. Very disappointing. Great review, Sootch, as always. Excellent content.

I gave my 1911 to my son last year when he got his carry permit. So, I'm in search of another "all metal pistol". I had a stainless 92FS years ago. Wasn't crazy about the safety/decocker system or the grip angle. I looked at few more of them last week, the 92X and 92XI. The grip angle just doesn't work for me. Which really sucks! 😏 So, I'm leaning towards a Sig P220 Elite.

I think pinnacles in different tracks. The 92X perf has the sexier trigger job, holding them both back to back and running the action, I’d say it’s almost a personal preference on the trigger “feel”. The A4 has a much better trigger over the A3, feels very good and it’s so close to the 92X perf. The A4 is noticeably lighter however. The A4 is also RDO ready, the 92X Performance doesn’t look like it has it? I think I like the finish of the performance model though. My local store had them for under $100 difference, overall I went the A4 holding them in both hands. the trigger suited me more, i wanted the lighter full metal frame and threaded barrel, I live with the slide decocker and the 50 shades of FDE.

@@dalejustins7117 I have no idea why anyone would want a decocker (only) on the frame. A safety/decocker I can definitely agree, but I don't understand why someone would want a decocker in the way of their grip.
