@@MrSevnie - The BlueBus uses AAC for HD BT streaming, which is fairly comparable to aptX. At the end of the day, most people are going to stream music which is encoded at a much lower bitrate than either codec tops out at. While the Ncxus v3 Pro is a good option, it wouldn't suit my needs as it doesn't completely integrate with the vehicle. Of course, I am biased as I am the guy who designed the BlueBus ;). FWIW, I can't even make a BlueBus for myself for the cost of the Ncxus.

This is legit. This seems much better than the Grom that I have
@Minerva___
@Minerva___ 4 жыл бұрын
What do you find wrong with the Grom? The only thing different I see with this unit is that you can change the blinker option which is actually pretty neat. I have occasional hiccups where the audio won't play through the Grom but I usually just shut the car off and let the Grom turn off, then turn the car back on and it picks it right up. The Meta-data is a nice feature as the Grom only displays audio data in the top most section in big text but its not a dealbreaker for me. All of the steering wheel controls work and I have Siri functionality just like this thing. I was hoping for a little more out of the device but I think the Grom is still a great unit.
@ShiftedPerspective
@ShiftedPerspective 4 жыл бұрын
@@Minerva___ A couple gripes...One is that it connects to the phone once you unlock the car, so if you are talking, you lose the connection and have to keep clicking back to the phone audio. The audio quality seems like it could be better. Maybe it's just me, but songs don't sound as clear as they could. I have M audio. Also the display of metadata in the center screen, it's just a very poor use of the space. I also find that when I click on the steering wheel for a next song, sometimes I have to click several times for it to change. Very weird. Generally the Grom is good, but I am being picky here.
@Minerva___
@Minerva___ 4 жыл бұрын
Shifted Perspective Hadn’t thought about the call connecting to the GROM, that’s a great point. I’m not normally on a phone call so that didn’t concern me as much. The metadata/text on screen is maybe the biggest bummer for me but I’ve found the unit to be pretty capable for what it does. With Spotify over BT, it switches songs when I use my steering wheel controls to go back or forward. When I’m listening to podcasts, its somehow intelligent to understand the forward and back buttons to use them as “skip forward X amount of seconds.” It’s probably just coincidence but I really like the fact that I can do that from my steering wheel. I really do wish I could have that blinker feature. If the install is as simple as it seems/looks, I may go ahead with it anyway. Cheers.
@tass2001
@tass2001 4 жыл бұрын
@@Minerva___ - what more would you like? Chances are that I plan on implementing it at some point :P I would like to note that the "GROM disappearing" is not their fault. The radio in some of our cars has a shitty bug where it forgets the CD Changer is there under certain circumstances. I've gotten past most of those, thankfully, but I do occasionally hear about an "AWOL" -- waiting thirty seconds should generally give the GROM a chance to show back up, if they coded it correctly.

@@tass2001 I understand, the album art would be like icing on the cake, lol! I had a buddy who owned a e38 740iL (with full 750il interior and a supercharged S62 swap!), and one of the things he was able to do was intergrade the iphone album cover onto the screen. Although most (80%) of the parts were OEM, he did have an intravee 2 and a couple other bits. He eventually ripped it all out and went fun NBT upgrade, then sadly sold it on BAT. That looks great! So it’s basically like an Intravee with Bluetooth! This has loads of potential for me. I love the convenience of auto locking/unlocking, 3 indicator blinks, that the Intravee gives me but will it offer power folding mirrors, or water temperature monitoring like my Intravee does? Recently I bought a blue music device which gives me Bluetooth audio, but I have to choose between this or the Intravee. This seems like a great compromise 👍

Hmm, at first I thought it was waaaay overpriced because I was under the impression that it would have hands-free bluetooth audio with metadata, and that's it. But I didn't know about triple-blink capability, I'd have to buy the updated LCM and that alone is a decent amount of $$$. Still on the fence about it since I have basic bluetooth audio (with no car controls, all from phone) installed for $10. Knockoff aux adapter to my MK4, then aux to bluetooth adapter taking power from the flashlight in the glovebox, I made the 12V adapter by butchering up my flashlight. Just need to have a think and see if the rest of the features is really worth the extra $180.

This is like a Bluetooth-oriented Intravee, with fewer car-specific features. Hopefully in time they will add more of what the Intravee has because the developer of that tech passed away some time ago and no one else really picked up where he left off. This could be huge especially with the resurgence of interest in this era of BMW. Glad to see someone taking the time.

So out of curiosity, let’s theoretically say I have the BMW car phone, the og, the one from the e38, and I don’t have any of the modules other than the armrest phone, and the microphone up in the headliner, now, would I be able to use that phone to pick up calls from the blutooth module, or does that require further modules and retrofitting, because that would be amazing
@tass2001

That's not something I ever considered! It would be hilarious to have a working car phone in 2020. However, I don't believe the BlueBus will be able to accommodate this, as I haven't even remotely looked into how that worked. I presume a proprietary protocol was used, as most of those signal lines vary between Nokia and Motorola.

tass2001 I mean, he says you can use the microphone in the headliner and the steering wheel controls to pickup a call and talk, i would imagine that was integrated with the Center console phone, and he said you have to rob a whole connector from the Telephone Control Unit, so I imagine it’s all interconnected

@@andrewmattera6205 - Haha no worries! As you can see here: www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e39-528i-lim/d0DPJQm there are a lot of data lines going between the TCU in the trunk and the car phone in the console. While there appears to be a microphone output from the phone, I'm not really seeing an audio input. Then there's the question of what exactly it would expect -- line level? Amplified? What impedance? So, it may be do-able, but certainly not something I feel adds enough value to pour myself into. There's a lot of fine pitch parts on the PCB (cadlab.io/project/1479/master/circuit/aGFyZHdhcmUvQmx1ZUJ1cy5icmQ%3D) so I wouldn't really recommend hand assembly. Even I use a stencil and solder paste for my home made prototypes. Of course, shoot me an email if you seriously want to assemble one. Wow that is an impressive product! I have been looking for hack-free Bluetooth solutions for my 16x9 screen, but couldn’t find any. However, I found the e39 Avin Avant 4 and am seriously contemplating installing that head unit since it is the best aftermarket yet “OE” style I have found. It gives CarPlay, Backup camera, front parking camera, dash cam, and TPMS functionality if you add those options when purchasing. While I really want to buy the BlueBus, I think these features of the Avant 4 are too compelling for me, even though it’s a bit of a process to install it. What are your thoughts on this specific aftermarket head unit?

(BlueBus guy here, so my opinion is obviously skewed) -- I won't speak for Ryan, but I will tell you that my personal experience with an Android Headunit (Nexus 7 in-dash) was clunky at best. It worked well, and it was cool, but it was too "busy" and thus very distracting. Your 2000 M5 will not have the 6-pin (analog) audio connector. You'll be looking for a single pole black coaxial cable that looks like an antenna wire. This round connector plugs into the BlueBus on one end, and directly into the top of the amp on the other end.

The small antenna looking wire is the digital DSP cable, the other end should be connected to the top of your amp. Coming out from the carpeting, on the rear left down low near the frame rail, you should see the 3-pin IBUS connector that gives the BlueBus power/data.

Hi Chris, I would recommend buying a headliner 'console' panel that has a mic cut-out in it already, so you can keep your factory one perfect somewhere safe.
