It's great to see there are still people adding new features to the original navi/radios! However I bought an M-Package E39 530d Touring (manual) recently which had an android headunit installed with the K-Bus app, which has all these features already and even more. Unfortunately it's not as premium refined feeling as the OEM 16:9 screen from BMW though, both software and hardware wise, however it's not that bad to be honest. It works just fine and it's also Android so it has about any feature a smartphone has. I wish some guy could make a module like this BlueBus for the OEM Navi screen but with all the Android K-Bus features. That would be perfect!

So I’ve got the basic little pixel screen. In typical E39 fashion, a good portion of those pixels have left the building. With that being said, would it even make sense to buy a BlueBus? I’ve been wanting to invest in a Chinese Android head unit with CanBus integration. I’ve heard good things about those. Then again, my $15 Bluetooth FM transmitter works well enough most of the tine.
@tass20014 жыл бұрын
It depends. It'll work nonetheless, and you could totally get the screen repaired (several shops do it, look on eBay). In the end, you'll come out a bit cheaper (but not by much) than the Android Head Unit and whatever brackets you'll need to make it fit correctly. Personally, I like the OE look, which is why I developed the BlueBus.

Thanks for this video, Ryan. I installed mine today and it was a big help just knowing I was looking at the right thing. Its unreal how much better the audio is over the DSP and BlueBus vs the adapter I was using with the analog cable. I do have a question... since I have another device that used to plug in and would use the old 6 pin audio, could I split the power and have that available as well, like how you have the BlueBus and your Sirius receiver? If so, is there some easy way to split the power? Nothing i have has an option for that secondary cable you have with Sirius.

Recently got my BlueBus, and have had a hell of a time trying to find a 3 pin and 6 pin pre-wired bundle to hook it up. I have a 2009 BMW X3, and it seems that my hi-fi stereo is not pre-wired for satellite radio in the trunk nor is it pre-wired for the cd changer under the centre armrest. So... I'm screwed? Ted sent me an extra long phone wire to go from my oem Bluetooth module in the trunk with the original intention for it to run to the centre armrest (where the cd changer wires should be). Having discovered that I do not have the wiring for the cd changer there, could you let me know if my next plan/idea has any merit: to place the BlueBus under the driver's side dash and run wires from the head unit and the trunk to there. 1. I ran the 10 foot phone cable supplied by Ted from the trunk to the driver's side under the dash; 2. If my car is not pre-wired for any additional inputs (neither satellite radio nor cd changer), can I order the 3 pin and 6 pin wiring harness from the dealer (?), plug it in to the back of the business cd head unit, install the missing cd changer fuse, and run the new harness to the driver's side dash? (From the look of it, it would be infinitely easier to run the cables this way rather than trying to run them under the carpet from the trunk and from the head unit to the space under the arm rest). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
@E39Source2 жыл бұрын
A 2009 must be pre-wired, as even the 2000 model cars were. I am less familiar with the E83 X3 platform, so I am not sure where the wiring would be. I would want the BlueBus installed wherever the 3-pin CD changer wiring is. I would all but guarantee that you are pre-wired for this. These wires are part of the factory harness and cannot be purchased separately.

@@E39Source Appreciate the reply. I'm calling my dealer on Monday and going to ask them to confirm what pre-wiring I have based on my VIN. The car does have the bavsound speakers. I have all the cables plugged in besides the analog cable that I cannot find. Could that be my problem?
@E39SourceАй бұрын
A 2001 E39 won't have the 6-pin analog cable. Your audio signal will be using the single pole digital (coaxial) DSP cable. Remove this cable from the BlueBus and use a tiny screwdriver to gently pry the inner tabs towards the center of the cable, this should make a better connection to the BlueBus and get your audio signal back. It's possible that the other end of this cable (amplifier) needs this treatment as well. In BlueBus audio settings, ensure that audio output is set to digital instead of analog.

I have both plugged in on my M5 as well, no problem with that. Ensure that the other end of the black coaxial DSP cable is plugged into the top of your black DSP amplifier. If so, you still have no audio, disconnect the DSP cable from the BlueBus and use a tiny flat-head screwdriver to gently press the internal prongs on the cable closer to the center. These are known to fatigue over time and not make proper contact with the BlueBus. Moving them closer the center should restore connection and the audio feed. You can also do this on the amplifier side of the cable.

in case anyone else runs into this issue and you have a MKII nav unit and it shows CD 07-01: connect the bluebus via USB to your computer and follow the steps in this link github.com/tedsalmon/BlueBus/wiki/Accessing-the-Terminal then once you have putty running enter the following command and hit enter: set ui 2 disconnect bluebus from your computer, and it should work now. The 3-pin connector from the CD changer is what gives the BlueBus power, and will allow it to wake up, show in the modes list, and connect to your phone. The 6-pin is purely for audio.
