You could all easily have built 3 to 5 good decks out of those piles I'm guessing.

Probably, but we all decided to make 60 card decks from the start because of the massive card pool which caused us all to draft the same color throughout the draft. Had we said 40 cards and multiple games from the get-go then yeah, there's a good chance we could have.
