I'm a 3 years old indoor miner, I ran multiple trials to cool my house down, and would like to share with you a secret to cooling down your mining rig, create more space between lined up gpus (atleast 30cm apart), and you'll notice a dramatic 20c drop in temperature. the major problem is that the first youtube mining videos taught us to install gpus next to each other, and thats the biggest mistake we all do. try it out and see the results.

Hey steve I love the idea, I'm a new miner here with heat problem. But I just bought me a dehumidifier, because I've seen that humidity is not the best kin to my cards it self. So what do you think about humidity? I dont see a single video about this.. I do know however that with the test I bought of lowes. Even if the humidity is at 90% outside while I'm bringing air thru a crossflo way the humidity in my farm goes up to as high as 65 and bottles around 45 in the night time. I wanna keep humidity lower in there.. but because of the cross flow nature I feel that it may not work simply because it will just push out any air I do dehumidify.. I didn't think of this before I bought the machine.. until now. What is your thought on humidity?
@TahoeSteve3 жыл бұрын
When i was learning there was a guy from Florida that had rigs in containers outside and he didn't have problems. So i never worried about my indoor rigs where humidity was much lower.
@wolfgang47153 жыл бұрын
@@TahoeSteve thanks Steve, I hear that so far I've been just crossfloing air from one window to another in my rig room. I will try an ignore this little idea I was thinking.
@TheMuddman743 жыл бұрын
I believe the GPUs themselves are too warm for humidity/moisture to stick to them or stay on them. It would simply evaporate. Your motherboard is probably the only thing cool enough to possibly get humidity on it. Either way most electronics with no moving parts will run in high humidity environments for a decade. If you are really worried, Gigabyte UHD motherboards are great for mining and the UHD stands for ultra high durability. If you read the specs they basically use a motherboard material and process that withstands moisture much better.

Looking into getting one and was wondering if you could tell me what you do during the day with the AC on in the summer. Is the door to the room closed along with the AC vents in the room and you leave the window open? If not, wouldn't the cold air from the AC just leave the house? Or do you just have it on with all the windows closed (which from my research on whole house fans I have heard can have problems with negative pressure)? Lastly, how loud is it relative to the floor that it is on? It seems you live in a two story house but I live in a one story house and so noise is a big factor in this. I unfortunately do not have the final say on whether or not we get the fan installed because of these questions so I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on them.

I’m currently running a very similar setup, and learned the same as you with the grow tent. What I’m curious about is instead of drawing in warm humid air from outside via negative pressure, I instead use ductless mini splits, effectively cooling the room’s warm air and sending the heat out through the compressor unit. I’m not sure this is a viable strategy, but I’m curious if you’ve tried this yet or not.
@98f53 жыл бұрын
it works.... I use geothermal heatpump along with a custom system to absorb heat directly into a second geothermal loop. someday i think i should make a video about how i get rid of the heat because I'd imagine it could help alot of people who are running midsized farms in their homes. I started with mini splits, but once i realized i had close to 300k btu of cooling, i knew i had to invest in something much better. The mini splits worked great, I could run about 100 cards per 48000 btu minisplit segregated room.
@cgooch_3 жыл бұрын
@@98f5 Heh. Sounds like the exact same scenario I'm in with the mini splits. What I've actually considered doing moreso recently is creating custom water loops and submerging external radiators in water that's constantly cycling and draining. One option is to create outdoor cooling towers and recirculate the water, or just eliminate the cooling factor altogether and simply use your plumbing bill to cool the computers.

Basically what hes doing here, most discussions on cooling focus too much on bringing cold air in and not enough on getting hot air out. A big extractor fan on the ceiling (because hot air rises) will do wonders in bringing ambient temperatures down.
