I actually like Makoto, and find that his ordinary nature works to his advantage. While he doesn't have a talent apart from extraordinary luck, he has other admirable qualities, particularly his kind heart, his intelligence and his refusal to give up in the face of despair, all of which make him an asset to his classmates in the killing game. It really goes to support one of the themes of the Hope's Peak Saga- that talent isn't everything.

@@fangirl32 I'm one of those who love his character and what he provides. Even though he wasn't the mastermind, he was the antagonist. I personally feel like there is two aspects to villains that make them good. If the story wants you to hate the villain and you do. Then the villain did a good job. Or if the villain has motives and ideals you can agree with, than the villain did a good job. Kokichi manages to fit into both perfectly.

One thing I'll give SOnia is that while she doesnt have huge relevance in the story, she is actually one of the bigger contributors during trials as if I recall you agree with her the most in nonstop debates. So while not as helpful as Hajime, Chiaki, or Nagito, she does help out a lot.

Warning if you don’t like rants, I suggest not reading This might just be me but Chiaki was SUPER boring to me :/ no flaws whatsoever except her sleepiness and that’s barely a fucking flaw. She’s cute an’ shut but. If you argue saying Kyoko was the same. She was not like Kyoko cause Kyoko DID have flaws, Kyoko had trust issues, wasn’t able to communicate well, etc.. Chiaki however was just boring, she was nice, she was smart, she was cute, and so on.. She’s good morally, but terrible as an actual character. However she IS just a computer program. I feel like saying Kaede is 'perfect' isn't correct she clearly has her flaws as Nico mentioned, I think people get this idea that she's perfect becuase she's just a really good person, almost super hero-esque. If Kaede were to stay the protagonist in V3 I would have wrote her like a superhero particaluarly Spider-Man. Instead of building up her character and making her stronger like Shuichi, you do the opposite make her weaker. As more and more people die, have the burdern of responsible weigh on her, make her have doubts about her own morality and beilefs. Should they kill the mastermind? Do the Blackends derve to die? This would play into the twist in the end. Kaede believes in the good in people and hummanity, but finds out the world supports killing games, that she supported killing games. Then in the end have her stick to her beliefs, and believe that hummanity can be good, and can be better. One big notable character flaw is Kaede is that she is strong. She trys so hard to be strong for other people. There are many scenes where she'll act fine in front of the other students, then go cry behind their backs. This flaw leads to her cannon death. If I were to make Kaede a protagonist I would make Kaede become more vunerable, allow her to lean on others particularly Shuichi. Kaede supports Shuichi in the begining of the game, and by the end it's Shuichi supporting Kaede. I've been thinking about this stuff for a long time and I really think I've given the chance Kaede could have been a great as the protagonist of V3.

To be honest, in my opinion I'd say that Kokichi is the best character in the entire game's series as a whole. At the very beginning when you meet him, you literally lose ALL trust in him. The moment he pops up he he starts spitting lies left and right. You can't just ignore him either, because he's smart as FUCK, and shows that he's not just spewing horseshit that has nothing to do with the case at hand. Because of that, and the combination of him always acting like he was fucking with you puts the player in a loop. Is he telling the truth? Is he lying? Who the hell knows? In other words his character DEMANDS attention from the player and it does it so well because of his relevance and his antagonistic nature. Because of a person's natural desire to make sense of things, people are going to not trust his words, but rather, what his actions are. But because of his intelligence, they're not going to completely disregard what he says, because he COULD be helping you. Or is he? You don't know. You *NEVER* know. That's what makes him so fucking interesting. He was unpredictable. And his end. OOOOH... His end was *perfect* for him. It just highlighted his entire shtick. Like his character, it gave the player a question, and the player, and the protagonist had to sort this out in their head Is he lying? Or is he telling the truth? There is no straight answer, and there never will be. It worked really well with a game like this too, because the truth is so valuable in mystery games. Especially if it's a case about something you never saw. You have to rely on what other people say and look for contradictions. So because Kokichi being a character, not only does it make it the game feel more refreshing, it makes it more unpredictable, because not only are you watching out for the possible killer and contridictions, you're watching out for Kokichi because of the sheer attention he just naturally pulls in. It's why I enjoyed him, and I believe that's why he worked in this setting. *HA IT WAS A LIE*

Hey Nico. You'll probably never see this, but I kinda wanted to clear up 'super saiyan' Ishimaru for you. So, in the beginning of DR1, Ishimaru is trying to be the 'support pillar' of the group. This is due to his upstanding, authoritarian character and role as the ultimate morals person (can't remember his canon title). Because of this, however, he clashes with many members of the class (such as Mondo and Byakuya) who refuse to abide by him. As the quote-unquote leader of the group, he then feels pressured to keep them all safe (at least, in my thoughts) and is struggling with his own morals in what is becoming a twisted world inside the school. Fast forward to Daily life case 2. Ishimaru finds comradeship with Mondo, whom he had previously disagreed with. Finding a true friend in the madness, especially after the deaths of sayaka and Mr 11037, allows him to feel more positive regarding the situation, and because of said circumstances he latches onto this bond. When Mondo is eventually ousted as the culprit of case 2, he loses his greatest friend among the tragedies that are occurring. Because of Mondo's death, and the pressures of his failures to keep everyone safe in his role of upholding the law, Ishimaru ends up emotionally compromised and remains that way until meeting Alter Mondo. After the shock of hearing said dead friend speak to him once more, he becomes Ishimondo (or 'me' as he calls himself). Now, this is probably one of the most impactful parts of the game for me (right alongside naegi's execution, and byakuya's withdrawal from the game), because of said transformation. I don't think that anything actually happened, such as Ishimaru physically taking on the spirit of Mondo, or such (this isn't corpse party, after all), but rather something darker. From this moment, Ishimaru goes insane. This change into 'Ishimondo' signifies that he has lost all semblance of what's going on, and thinks that he is a different person entirely. I don't know, maybe this doesn't have as much impact on you as it did on me, but the idea of this individual who you've become well acquainted with just... snaps and goes insane, it feels really real to me personally, so I felt like clarifying it. Even if you'll probably never see this xd

I think that there's a lot of character development in Taka that definitely goes unnoticed. They for sure packed a lot into three chapters for one character, yet people constantly ask for more of him. Like I get it because he was husbando and I hated how wasteful chapter 3 was in general (Celeste) but he really didn't need any more fleshing out at that point. I think it would've been nice to see him use his moral compass talent to push through the depressive phase and super saiyan phase and become a survivor that way, using his newfound strength to push the group forward (Instead of hagakure who fails at this miserably) and unify the students. He could've been like a rock for them. I can definitely see the reasoning behind why they chose to kill him off though.

Nagito deserves a tier of his own... I think he's one of the most intriguing characters. He's morally grey, but still a dark character, and his odd relationship with Hajime makes it even better. His virtual death was also one of my favorites Kokichi's fake death was also probably one of the most hilarious moments for me... like, my heart stopped because I wasnt expecting it and it was fuckin Kokichi, and then the little shit decides to get back up. And lastly, Shuichi. I adore Shuichi. What you said about him was spot on. The trio of him, Kaito, and Maki actually stuck with me for a few months after finishing the game. Seeing him cry to Kaito about being weak and then overcoming his fears and grow into someone mentally strong was amazing. V3 was amazing in general, the part where they all lost hope and almost committed suicide actually had me feeling pretty empty. We have pretty much the same list, except I actually really like Hagakure, I have an extreme hatred of Chiaki(i know, i know. I hated her from the start of the game so I ignored her a lot, but I just thought she was boring.), and I think Fujisaki is a bit overrated

Might as well get this out the way to mention. most of those characters who have the white background to em are siblings of DR1's cast that you literally only can find out about by getting the wanted posters for them in Ultra despair girls. Yes that includes the god damn bug and cat, being Fukawa's and Celeste's respectively since they pretty much didnt give a shit about their families. The 4 characters with the original artist profiles are all DR0 characters, the red hair'd one being the mc and, well, lets just say her character would probably somewhat redeem a certain other character on the list. Also that last anime girl is Sato, Mahiru's friend who snapped and killed Fuyuhiko's sister, and then got offed by Fuyuhiko. You probably remember her as that random chick from the video game in case 2 of DR2 who Mahiru's death mirrored perfectly.

Some of the characters nico didn’t know where from hit list in ultra despair girls, like Celeste’s cat, togami’s butler, Hifumi’s little sister. Also after playing UDG, and completing it 100% i really feel bad for the kids (besides Monica) because they are victims of child abuse then put under junko’s care where she convinced them to murder their parents. (But their notebooks near the end prove that the kids really miss their parents even though all of their anger that was focused on the bad memories pushed them to murder their parents) It’s truly the darkest game the series for its themes but it also has a lot of characterization between the optional collectibles and the main story.
