Something I found that kinda supports the journey over the goal is that when Gon finally meets Ging, it doesn’t feel very flashy or crazy like the other arcs. He even says that Ging is more like a cool uncle than a father figure then moves on. I think it’s genius that Togashi is making the journeys more interesting than the goals. It’s a cool type of storytelling that I hope I run into more often. Which also makes me think about how is Kurapika going to feel when he meets his goal of getting all the Kurta Clans eyes. Is he going to just move on like Gon or is he going to go on another journey? I admire Togashi as a writer and hope he will be ok with all the health stuff he’s been dealing with.

I always liked to think of post-chapter 339 as like secret/bonus levels in video games. Usually you play through the full game, gain an understanding for most things presented, and have a ending that can satisfy most. But then if you want more, you can dive into the new extra levels unlocked after completing the main storyline. They’re usually complex and throw a lot at you (the succession war) but they can be wildly rewarding. In my eyes, reading past 339 is that complex task with great rewards. The analogy also works double because the anime essentially ends around the same time Gon meets Ging (besides the zodiac stuff), so if you usually just watch the anime for a story you can switch over to the manga for all that juicy extra content.

I've always had the feeling that no matter how many analysis essays about the characters' motives and ambitions I've read, I lacked some extremely important connecting piece of the puzzle. The essential one, the key to understanding the author and his work. idk if im just biased but like the characters (AND WORLDBUILDING) have always been the highlight of hxh i think, and even if togashi is introducing dozens of them i still manage to care about a majority of them which is impressive given the cast size. I'm definitely so excited for new chapters. Currently thinking about wth kaiser is up to lmao i'm starting to really like how mysterious he is and how he reacts so little to everything is really good for interacting with other characters and also comedy wise.

Around 10:55 Not really, the king could try a number of different things, including backstabbing Beyond, that could complicated his journey to the Dark Continent or his goals on it, as such a way to make sure he keeps the backing and his goal is continue, it's by making his child the next king and seal the deal by killing the current king once this is asure.

Your point about Phantom troupe having no interest in dark continent is no wholly correct. Prior to Shalnark's death in chapter 357, Chrollo told shalnark that they will be boarding the black whale to the new continent to steal the treasure and visit the new continent, and it will be like killing two birds with one stone.

Not quite, at least not in the VIZ translation I read. The dialogue goes "the king and the princes are going to the new continent. They must have some substantial treasure. They'll be taking it on board. And we'll steal it. And we get a nice trip to boot." This is too ambiguous to say that the PT have an interest in reaching the new continent, "we get a nice trip to boot" reads like they're just talking about the voyage itself.
