If I were to criticize one thing about this video it would be your decision to farm Krampus in the early game as most wouldn't recommend it until the late game. You most likely will want to establish more things such as your base, food supply, seasonal prep, and cave exploration. Other than that this was a well-put-together video, but to anyone else don't farm Krampus in the early game it's generally not worth it.

I hate fighting bosses because I'm terrible at combat in this game so my tip for at least deerclops, moose goose (and bearger if you have several of them) is spawn a tree guard(s) within walking distance from camp, bring pine cones to passify it/them and now you have a roaming emergency defence. The only reason I've survived my first winters is because I've b-lined for "my" tree guard(s) when I hear deerclops breathing start up. The tree guard(s) will hopefully take him out but if it's one-on-one deerclops can sometimes win but it should be a few whacks away from death if that’s the case so just bring a spear, logsuit and football helmet and go to town. Having an emergency wood supply close to base in the form of a planted forest is always nice. If you're worried about "your" tree friend(s) getting grumpy for chopping down trees just save the pine cones until they swipe at you and planting a couple will get them to chill out. I'm not sure if it actually matters but in my experience the closer you are to the tree guard when planting the more likely they are to calm down. So I usually dodge a few swipes and plant around three pine cones practically at their feet(roots?) and it pretty much always works.

Thank you for posting this. It really helped me in my worlds playing with the weaker characters. I always found combat hard in the start of this game so I recommend the character Wigfrid. Her downside is only eating meat, but her upsides are being stronger in combat & getting a special spear & helmet.
@templeofdelusion2 ай бұрын
Lmfao, deerclops can be tanked, all you do is make a fresh hambat, put on 3 football helmets, 3 log suits and stand on top of normal campfire that you load to maximum fuel, then you simply wait for deerclops to come and whack him till he dies, even wendy can do this, you have no excuse being unable to beat him when a small investment of some grass, logs, twigs and pigskin kills him by you holding down one button, you don't even need to eat any food after the fight because he does like maybe 20 damage to you before he dies. And yeah, your sanity might drop to 0 but you should have tam o shanter or drying racks or green mushrooms or cacti lying around by the point he spawns. Of course there's a way to make game prioritize football helmets or log suits but I'm not even gonna bother explaining, just make 3 of each and it's literally 100% braindead impossible to fail. If you play wendy, maybe make a 4th one just to be safe.
@templeofdelusion2 ай бұрын
@@scarletsletter4466 Wigfrid is a noob trap, she prevents you from learning how to restore your sanity and health, Wendy is a lot better I'd say, Abigail can tank damage for you but if you don't help her, she WILL die, making you engage in combat anyway. Once you realize that fact, you eventually will be able to play normal characters without crutches. By the way, wolfgang is also a crutch character, yeah he needs more food but food is easiest thing to get in the game so he gets free damage for basically doing what you already did... And his hunger affecting max hp also makes it too easy to heal, if you heal when low on hunger, then eat normal food to max, you basically cheated free health points, even wilson is "harder" than him. Also him being fast when well fed is just.... Overpowered. Walking is most OP thing in this game, and doing it faster completely breaks it. Also reduced combat damage doesn't even matter, like I said wendy can tank deerclops all by herself and win with just hambat and some spare sets of armor lmao. Deerclops isn't even a threat once you figured out mechanics of the game. In fact, you will be sad when he doesn't spawn, because materials required to beat him are NOTHING in comparison to the reward he gives - 100% protection from rain and best summer heat insulation. Not having eyebrella is suffering, of course you can still easily deal with those two without it, but eyebrella is just too good to not get.

I REALLY appreciate the time and effort you put into this tutorial! I learned so much, even being a long-time player. I'm ashamed to say im still quite timid about fighting slightly bigger creatures like krampus and even werewolves, so you showing just how easy it was gives me more confidence! However, I did come here to see every giant battle in Don't Starve ROG... as Bearger just spawned in my world, and I really need some tips to defeat him! And there are not enough OG Don't Starve guides out there! Way to many DST guides😒. So it would be pretty fantastic if you could do another video showing every giant battle along with the season guide 🙏 😅 P.S. If you had footage from another video of Giant fights, you could just clip it in. We would understand because you cant help if they dont spawn in your world.

You play way differently from what I do and what people recommend everyone to do and this was a breath of fresh air. Picking King as base location despite all the better options takes virtually no time to find and building small bases with bare necessities in hindsight is way better than building one base that you have to constantly come back to... I also never really thought about farming birds because it didn't really seem worth it, so that definitely cuts out a lot of chores from the equation. I'd always rush a lot of drying racks and bird cage for example, but you survived just fine with only a crockpot. Though I don't agree with kiting deerclops, around 3 log suits, 3 football helmets and one ham bat with a campfire is enough to kill him with 0 food while standing still.

Wanted to say, ive been playing dont starve since 2013 when i was a kid, and i could just never get far into it. I actually managed to survive a whole year thanks to your guides. I feel like the game has a lot of misdirection compared to other survival games, you instinctually want to fortify a base, grow crops, and avoid danger, but dont starve benefits from a very aggresive and nomadic playstyle. After that it finally clicked and i was able to start having fun. What tips i felt were the most impactful were grilled green mushrooms (it really clued me into the whole food hunger health sanity triangle, i used to constantly try to make honey poultices as my main form of healing, thinking food would only ever restore hunger and a little health), werepigs as a good trade of monster meat for meat and pigskin, and trapping spiders (makes breaking tier 3 nests effortless, jeez).

This "survival guide" is so bad it makes me want to make my own. Dude, if you're a noob player just trying to get through a whole year for the first time, crampus farming and wasting time sleeping through seasons are the last thing you need to do. Here's a list for anyone in the comments who wants to actually learn the game: 1) don't base in the pig village. You will have to deal with obnoxious pigs stealing food, turning to werepigs if you broke their houses or walked away from base before full moon, also you will need to explore caves at some point and if you open the cave near the village, you'll get constantly bothered by bats. Pigs are not great protectors either because most hound attacks and boss fights will happen in the evening or at night when they are hiding. You can fix that issue if you're clever, but that's a late game objective, not early game 2) Here's how to survive hounds: -Carry two pieces of body armor AND two pieces of head armour. Train yourself to always carry armour, healing items, weapons and fire starting supplies in the body inventory, not your back pack, because you will drop it at the first sign of trouble (or just use a backpack+ mod if you keep forgetting, nobody cares). -If you can have a hambat made just before hounds arrive, great, you can kill them 9 times out of 10 even in middle game when the attacks are overwhelming. If you don't have s hambat or an equivalently good weapon, lead hounds into the swamp. The tentacles are awake all day and night, just lead hounds into their patches. Another great spot for hound distracting is the killer bee biome. Your character runs fast enough that bees won't get you, but the hounds will get chewed through. Might take a few passes, works every time. Another good idea is to keep a treeguard or three near your base, you can pacify them by planting pinecones in front of them. They kill hounds very easily. Another option is to run to beeffalo, just be careful, you don't want the whole herd to die out or their fur to burn down before you can pick it up. Works best when they have red butts. If you made base far away from any of these things, dedicate all hounds teeth you get to building tooth traps. Choose a spot far enough away from base that fire won't spread to it. Plop a firepit in the middle and slowly surround it with tooth traps. This way you can survive a hound wave even at night in winter while caught off guard. 3) must have items for each season: -Winter: thermal stone(!!!), biffalo hat (tem-o-shanter if you can get one, it's great for sanity, but if you keep dying to mactusk, it's not a requirement), winter coalophant coat (very easy to get.kill a few spiders for the silk, kill or shave a few beefalo, which you're already going to do for the beefalo hat, kill one winter coalophant which is very easy. Follow suspicious dirt piles untill you find him, wait for night time to put a fire close to him, hit him while he is asleep, either kite or tank him, only takes about 10-15 hits, to get his trunk and 8 big meats.), firepit and crock pot. -Spring: umbrella(!!!) or eyebrella, lightning rod on base. -Summer: endothermic fire (precrafted)(!!!), fridge(!!!), thermal stone (you keep one on you, one in the fridge, swap as needed, gunpowder (14), either a pan flute (can be found near glommer sometimes, or crafted from mandrakes) or 40+ ashes. These last two are for the fly. You use pan flute to make it sleep, or drop the ashes near her for the same effect, then blow her up. Easy fireproof chest. Or you can just run away before she notices you and wait for her to despawn. That only works if she didn't spawn right at your base, so make sure to stay at a different location with a precrafted endothermic firepit from day 10 of summer, or be ready to run/wormhole there before she spawns. Another must-have is an ice flingomatic. You don't really need an endothermic firepit at base if you have a fridge. -Autumn: nothing special is necessary, but if you intend to spend it exploring caves, you can use the summer to harvest honey and make a ton of sanity-restoring foods with it. Look up crock pot recipes.

Appreciate the insight and im glad you commented in such detail, but I am almost certain that in my “where to base” segment I said a place near the pig village NOT in the pig village and as for krampus farming, that was a secondary objective, the bird morsels keep you easily fed throughout winter and give you a goal to get through the boring winter months, also koalaphent is largely useless (lets be real are you ever going to use a chestpiece other than a backpack/krampus sack?) the 8 meat it drops is cool, but not necessary and the chance of a varg or ewecus is too high for a new player and if they get that it will be game over at that stage, you have to think about people brand new to the game dude! My first varg wiped my world, those guys are tough so the advice to just blindy follow a dirt path is awful for someone just starting out thanks to these guys, they may be rare but are not 0%! Go ahead and watch my “100 days winter” livestream if you want proof of being able to survive winter without a puffy vest! For your spring advice, I said that and way more in my spring segment of the video For your summer advice, While yes, gunpowder/sleeping work, those are resource intensive tasks, it is far easier to either get d-fly stuck between two campfires/boulders both material-wise and time-wise, or theres the much better option of just running to the nearest wormhole and despawning her since she doesn’t offer anything good from her drops, which I would highly suggest anyone not prepared to fight her do since shes easy to enrage in DS but also easy to despawn and then everything else was covered afaik And finally, autumn is THE MOST important season, you have lots you have to do to not only prepare for the coming seasons, but also utilize your time in the most mild season, so naturally it had the largest segment, this is a beginners guide, not a min-maxing guide, its not for pros its for people just starting out While I completely disagree with some of your points and some are just repeats of what I said in the video, thank you for the criticism, it really does help me produce the best content possible

@@polarlotusalso, yes, you said some of these things, I don't have an hour long video format - I'm writing a KZbin comment, I physically can't get everything. The way you described your gameplay was so boring I could cry. My small list of items provides maximum mobility and minimum danger. Which is what survival is. Not crampus farming. Also, if you think depth worms are less dangerous then hounds, you clearly never had them spawn at the entrance on day 200. I haven't died to hounds once in the last three years, cave worms kill me every fucking time around day 400 when I get careless with armour. Which is why I say you need to carry 2pieces of each.

Nowhere do I insist that winter HAS to be spent at your base, Just showed of one of the many ways to stay productive throughout winter, the glory of this game is that you can play it many ways which naturally will make survival guides wildly different per person, I think farming krampus is a great idea during winter as azure feathers make blowdarts and the meatballs carry you through spring, you can of course disagree with that, but it IS a working method that will guarantee a new players survival, can they make winter gear and adventure during winter? Sure! Do they need to? Not really, besides mactusk theres not a lot of special things outside of your base that winter offers, trust me, it made my 100 days run incredibly tough for the last few days Im glad you are leaving these comments though, it really points out how amazing this game is, and how many ways it can be played! Every persons journey through the constant is truly unique, but that doesn’t invalidate others play-styles
