** My most sincere apologies for the sound! I inadvertently set the mic bias FAR too high, but I hope the content is enjoyable regardless. ** Loved making this review. The 940 is a car I cannot really fault. It's been dependable, steadfast, surprisingly fuel efficient (for what it is), an acceptable hotel room, and ludicrously cool. Hope you enjoyed.

Love your presenting. I will stick around for the long haul. I've had 3 Volvos 440,460 and an s40 all diesels with i think a renault engine in them i was told. The S40 was the best one but it had very basic spec

Really appreciate it, and my apologies for the choppy audio on this one! The first gen Volvo S40's were essentially mitsubishi carismas, same underpinnings, which is no bad thing, though volvo worked their magic to make it feel like a totally different vehicle. The later ones were fairly closely related to the Ford focus, but yet again, you'd never know it if you sat in both. Re: the diesels, you're probably right, Volvo have a habit of sharing diesel engines with other manufacturers, I believe the 740/940 used some VW diesel engines. With Renault though, if there's one thing they can do well, it's make a good diesel engine. As for the 440 and 460, that's a very overlooked model, it seems to be the 740's/940's which command attention in that era. Despite that, all volvos seem to have that no-nonsense approach to motoring which is very commendable, it's hard to think of a genuinely bad one. Cheers for the support!

@@CaiKeys the 440 and 460 both died on me quickly. Gearbox then timing belt scrapped them both. S40 never went wrong but only sold it as I was bored with it. Ownership of these was over 20 years ago as I’m 53 this year

@@MarriedToTheKGB shame, that, especially as volvos typically have a decent reputation for reliability. Interesting to hear your experience though, you seem to have owned your fair share of cars

@@CaiKeys because my budget mostly has been at the lower end hence the lifespan of them is less. I wished I’d have got a w124 and just kept it going tbh

@@MarriedToTheKGB that's generally what I do, I find bangernomics usually works, plus you get to drive a variety of vehicles which is always fun. The W124 is legendary, brilliant vehicles, and still a sensible daily driver. Only issue on them is the degradable wiring loom which *needs* replacing because it *will* degrade, regardless of how pristine the vehicle is. Definitely factor that into the equation if you do consider one. The 190 doesn't have that issue, fortunately.

Last year I bought a 1996 940 and it turned out it was a melon. Sold it for 3500 euros less(!) than I bough it for (with the honest story of course). Was a beautiful car to look at with everything working including the AC, but the Floor, and beams were completely rotten out, my jack popped straight through! The horror was just sealed and hidden very nicely by the former owner who said that he did not know about it.. So be warned! Door cards go bad on especially 1995 and 1996 models, due to wrong glue type being used. My 1997 940 has no problems there. Your tail light bulbs blowing is not really a known issue for the 940, might be your specific car I guess. (you might want to the the foam gasket around the edges which is there to keep water out) Nice video! I love the 940 ! :-)

Thanks for sharing, was it undersealed with that black stuff at all, as opposed to something clear like lanoguard? I've found that often, that can do more harm than good! Sounds like it was an expensive example too if you lost €3500 - I'm assuming the rear lights blowing is due to the damage at the rear which must be leading to water ingress as you suggested, I'll let my brother know to try sealing it, see if that solves it! Glad you enjoyed the review!

@@CaiKeys t was the black stuff hiding everything, but it was done very neatly. You could not tell there was something crumbling under there. And yes,, when I bought it, I looked at the under side with a torch light.. It turned out to be a intensive restauration project, which I had no time and facility for. Wise lesson learned.. Next time, I bring a jack for sure..

@@winandd8649 such a shame, it could have been solid underneath when it was done too but that stuff holds any moisture and makes the issue worse... I won't go for any undersealed cars now after being stung with my old MG midget (which makes finding a classic a bit of a hassle!) definitely a live and learn type scenario that

@@CaiKeys I might! I’m leaning towards the 700-series, specifically the 745, but the 900- series are pretty too. I just got a soft spot for the 740/5’s☺️ The s70’s are so underrated though, they’re so beautiful and so overlooked! But yeah I’m in love with my v70. It’s got some power to it :)!

@@OmgItsLeaa honestly, I do prefer the 700 series to the 900, just. By basically all metrics it's the same car but a silver 745, that's peak volvo for me, brilliant looking things. Best of luck for whatever volvo you end up getting next!
